Dean has a sad (╥_╥)
Curse of the Bad Luck Cat || {Ajax & Dean}
@hexbreakerjax
“You’re the immortal genius curse breaker, right?” Dean’s ears twitched and quivered in annoyance as he questioned the blonde man who seemed taller than ever even as he sat hunched over at his desk, staring right back at the hunter.
Alright, maybe if Dean hadn’t been sat askance on the man’s desk, atop what might be a lot of important papers, perhaps he would get a more welcome reaction from the supposedly powerful guy. He had been told, eventually, that the only ones who can break a curse such as the one affixed to him are the gods, or the one who cast it, but damn it, he was in no mood for beating around the bush tonight. Not after slinking behind boxes and into filthy alleyways, the small soft (and sore) pads of his feet treading around in a desperate search for help for the past week. He eyed the stoic man through slitted eyes, his tail flicking anxiously, “So can you do it, or no?”

Bad Jokes and Journeys II || {Erin & Dean}
@secretsurvivalist Reaching across the counter to flick the beer bottle cap into the trash bin behind Erin, Dean gave her a quick, wide toothy smile in response to the joke’s opening, mostly thanks to the serene feeling filling him as he realised that the woman’s demeanor was becoming much more relaxed as she insisted on another joke, “Just one more” she had said, with a cute little laugh he couldn’t help but commit to memory. How had they been doing this for over two hours already? He remembered how the brunette bartender seemed when he first came into the bar: a little aloof and fatigued - for whatever reason, and he had sympathised regaurdless of that reason, because, well, life. But here she was now actually smiling and laughing; peppy. It made him feel useful, and that was good, because when Dean Winchester was being ruthlessly honest with himself about what this world really needed from him, and that wasn’t often — it was that if he was not paying his way so remarkably well by being “useful”, he wouldn’t deserve his own skin, or at least that’s how he defined his worth. Although this mentality often blurred the lines between what it meant to be useful and to be used, the concept was often lost on the hunter. Seeing her smile, helping her laugh - it was so much better than being holed up in a hotel room tonight surrounded by beer cans and liquor bottles, even if he could afford a room. Proud of himself, despite the fact that the nod to his personal value was only a fleeting emotion, he allowed himself the victory. Little wrinkles formed at the corner of his sparkling eyes while the bell jingled over the door as one of the last patrons left the bar. After one short glance towards the establishment’s exit again, Dean looked back at Erin, smirking. He knew this one, but damn, they were both smiling; he wanted to go through this motion, needed the moment. Bright green eyes staring straight at her anticipative, beaming face, he grinned openly and tapped his fingers on the wood countertop, “Uh, well… OH MY GOD,” he said with obvious amenability, “I don’t think I know this one!”
Erin had been having a rough day which was mostly the status quo of how things had been for months now. She was tired and having trouble getting any sort of traction on piecing her life together after everything that had happened. The job had been a good start but she’d never been in love with bartending, it had just paid the bills. At least it was doing that for now. Once she got on her feet she could start thinking about doing something more fulfilling, trying to figure out what she was going to do with herself.
All of that had been completely forgotten at the moment. She felt like her old self again. It felt so good. She wasn’t worrying, overthinking, or doubting everything going on. She was just right there in the moment, having fun, laughing, being really silly. Erin hadn’t laughed like that in a long time and she’d almost forgotten what it felt like to feel that kind of silly energy bubbling up again. The best part was is he didn’t make her feel like she was being ridiculous in her indulging that excitable energy. He seemed to like it and that made her feel good too.
She bit the bottom of her lip, trying to suppress the laugh as she waited to deliver the punchline of her next joke. They’d been doing this forever. He didn’t seem to be tired of her, continually egging her on for another one despite her offers to just shut up and let him drink. He’d been laughing and smiling and returning the same enthusiasm. It was hard for her to stop.
“One is really heavy and the other is a little lighter,” she burst into giggles immediately after delivering the line. It wasn’t until that moment that she seemed to realise how empty the bar had become. She spared a quick glance at her watch and looked up at him a bit shocked, “is that really the time?” Erin laughed a little surprised at how easily she’d gotten caught up amongst serving other customers and then returning to joke with him. It was easy and felt natural just to be in the moment and she hadn’t felt that in a long time.
“I should start getting cleaned up,” she said a bit sadly, she didn’t want the magic of the moment to be over. Erin quickly added, “you don’t have to go though, if you don’t mind me fussing around a little. Boss just likes me to have everything locked up by a certain time. Wouldn’t want to waste electricity,” she laughed a little and shrugged. Erin hoped he would stay a little longer or perhaps become a regular. She definitely hoped to see him again.
“Thank you, for joking around with me tonight,” she added as she started to stack up the clean glasses neatly on the racks, “you made the night go really fast and I haven’t laughed like that in a long time,” she paused what she’d started to give him a warm smile, “thank you.”
Bad Jokes and Journeys II || {Erin & Dean}
@secretsurvivalist Dean's face broke into a broad, honest grin promptly followed by a rather loud, quick and unexpected laugh that escaped him and that he couldn’t control at all. It hadn't been the joke. It had been Erin, pleased with herself; just being real. Almost immediately after the delivery of the silly joke, Erin had started a pleasant giggling fit which she tried to muffle at first then quickly gave up when she saw the hunter burst out laughing as well. It was like she was greeting him for the first time, really — this time as her genuine self. He felt like he could literally feel his eyes aglow with palpable mirth, and it had encouraged him to laugh helplessly, to be able to present a joyous smile that might’ve matched hers, and without any shame to it; everything had been so unadulterated and comfortable, but then she had glanced away and quickly averted the levity, whether inadvertently or not, with concern of the time. Dean couldn’t help but flinch with a pouty frown for a second, realising she had stopped her happy and carefree laughter. He involuntarily sighed; a little clearing of his throat to re-calibrate any disappointment. She didn’t owe him anything, of course. Not the authentic enjoyment of a shared reprieve from “the real world”, and much less, a heartfelt, beautiful smile. That was hers to own. And he was sincerely just grateful to have had what might be the last glimpse of it at all. It’s the little things, he reminded himself. The playful banter they’d shared over the last couple of hours was a welcome distraction to what would likely be an imminent next few depressing and lonely weeks while he tried to get by. The world of “hunting monsters" was often fragmented with destitution and despair, especially since he had made that promise to Sammy that he wouldn’t commit any more credit card fraud, or hustle pool and poker for income, as if he wasn’t already risking his life every damn day. But a promise was a promise. The world was more or less saved, but Sam was lost. Yeah, there were still supernatural creatures that needed purging, but he might as well not delay joining the swelling ranks of the homeless if that were to be his fate; you didn’t need a home to do the work he did. Not that he ever really knew one outside of Sam. He exhaled out of his reverie and paid a glance to the ridiculously good-natured bartender. “Ma’am,” his face softened into a slight smirk as he leaned slightly over the counter, “That… that was worse than terrible, I can't even describe how bad of a joke that was." He then cleared the smirk as he crooked a long index finger at her, staring at her pointedly, a mock-stern look that lasted barely three seconds before his face broke out again into a wide smile. "That was horrible. I love it. Truly." He beamed out a slightly open-mouthed smile for a few long seconds, meeting her eyes and then nodded to himself as he processed the rest of what she’d said. He acknowledged the inescapable meaning of telling him she would have to start the winddown of the establishment’s closure, and sure, she had said he could stay, but he wasn’t convinced that it wasn’t more out of a misguided sense of obligation or pressure after their… really nice time spent together (he’d respectably refrain from reading too much into it and call it bonding, even if...), and most of all, he definitely did not want to be that guy. Not tonight. With Dean, it was true, he could go almost any way; chat it up with anyone amiable enough, and then more. Especially if he’d drunk enough. But most female bartenders had seemed to barely tolerate him, and for good reason, men were - for the most part - pretty scummy, he knew, oh he knew. He had had his share of deplorable moments. He wasn’t proud of any of them. So as Erin moved to start stacking the glasses, and he noticed more of her than he had before, Dean quickly averted his eyes as his inner voice strongly influenced his anxiety that he might definitely end up being that guy if he stayed. Because yeah, he could be charming enough. He’d well manipulated that act in the past, that is for sure. But tonight he chose to take a hard pass on the wily. It seemed maybe he’d given up on all the scheming, in fact. “I… “ he wrestled with his reply, choosing to be honest, but careful, she deserves at least that, “Uhh, I... yeah, no I don't, I don't mind, it’s not that. Not in any rush to get where I am going, to be honest,” he offered truthfully, “just… if you can get done here quicker so you can go home, without me holding you up, then that might be a lot better. I know you’ve probably had a really long day, yeah?” he offered quickly, giving her an easy out. “And, ditto, you know, it's really no problem. Truth is, I haven’t laughed in a great good while like that since… well, heck I can't even remember!” He chuckled cordially and started to stand. For a sudden fleeting moment, her laughter and smile still fresh in his mind, he wanted to recant, accustomed to a night at the bar ending more indiscriminately, but then he breathed in deep through his nose and replied more confidently, finalising the decision; she had given him more than enough of her time tonight. He was very satisfied, thank you very much, and hoped she was too. It was a whole new thing to feel valued in any way for just being him, but it was… good. He cleared his throat again, “In fact, I do think I probably should just go ahead and head out so you can finish up in here and get yourself some much needed rest.” He stood his full height now and smiled down warmly at the bartender. “Erin, thanks for a great time, really. You’ve been very hospitable.” He grabbed his military jacket and slipped into it as he concluded, “Come lock up behind me?”

Looking at the description on the sign, Eugene nodded his head. “I believe it says …” Without batting an eye, he read off the warning that was written in Russian. Completely unaware that his companion may not have understood him, he gave him an expectant look as he waited for his response.
A Different Language || {Eugene & Dean}
“All right, well, thanks, Genie.” Dean’s voice was incredulous. His eyes narrowed in Eugene’s direction as he suppressed an irritated sigh. “Right… well that explains that.” As the words came out of his mouth, Dean’s entire face sort of buckled into an annoyed unsatisfied look as he shot a swift side-glance at the (mostly) freakishly intelligent man beside him. The impetuous hunter put his best efforts in remaining composed as he turned his attention back to the old metallic sign; wondering if his newfound partner was always this dense, or just pretended to be to limit his exertions, or heck, maybe the younger man just had a hard time understanding social rules and signals. Hopefully it was just that, and not the dude fucking with him.
Strange and creepy things were happening everyday all over the world, and Dean was no stranger to battling demons, witches, angels and hell, even the Devil, but that was back in the States and here Dean had inexplicably found himself across the map in an abandoned train station somewhere in Russia to investigate a cluster of possibly supernatural mutations with this Eugene fella, and boy, did he need a drink.
“Okay, now can you tell me what that means in English, then?” Dean exhaled a long breath and then forced a grin as he looked back at Eugene, mystery mullet and all. “You are far too fantastic for your own good, y'know that, buddy?”
Dean had to admit that to the rest of the hunter world, the case may not have had much gravity, but now that his monster chaser family had all agreed to “take a break and rest easy for a bit”, and knowing he wouldn’t be able to keep his workaholic tendencies off radar anywhere in the U.S., it would be best that he let them all believe he was off doing just anything but hunting. The truth was, Dean Winchester could not stand to be alone in his head for too long, so when the awkward man with the self-professed “large intellect” and excessive verbosity came to him with a proposal, he accepted the case before he fully understood what he was getting himself into.
“Tell me how I agreed to this again?” He added urgently as an afterthought. What a mess.

Michonne looked around, surveying the area. You could never be too careful. Those things could jump out and chase you at any moment. And she really didn’t feel like running for her life today. Having to give up your supplies to threatening survivors and not eating for three days will do that to you.
She had to get food soon, or she’d be too week to get it. With all the energy she was expending, she was sure she could starve within a week. So when she came across a decrepit looking store, she had to search it.
Luckily, there weren’t any roamers in the store. Unluckily, the place was pretty well looted. Michonne started picking up anything she could find, knowing that these meager supplies could mean the difference between life and death in the long run.
@katana-wielding-michonne The real danger, Dean knew — felt like he had always known, actually — is that in a post-zombie-apocalyptic world it isn’t the zombies, it’s the people.
Sure, the blood-borne Croatoan virus had wiped out most of humanity and caused a murderous rage in the people it infected that were still left standing, but truly, it was the humans that ended up being the worst monsters, demon-possessed or not.
While the contagion had decimated the population, it hadn’t even been the walkers that had nearly wiped the rest out, it had been the greedy, self-serving, and calculating humans that had created the virus to produce chaos and massacre on Earth in an ambitious plan to trigger the Apocalypse.
This was a new world that would always look so promising to the wrong people.
It wasn’t just the zombie creatures only interested in tearing you limb from limb; the apocalypse brought out people’s true nature, and Dean had run into more than his fair share of the wrong people.
When Dean had wound his way through an unfamiliar neighbourhood, sidestepping more than one groping zombie hand, to a small, dilapidated-looking store, he was careful to be on high alert for such kinds of wrong people, especially in an area he had never ventured into.

Starving didn’t just affect the body, it affected the mind and the senses. After a few days without food, the body slows its metabolism in an effort to conserve energy. The slowed metabolic process leads to impaired cognitive function and delayed reactions to stimuli.
Michonne knew it was just a matter of time before starvation made her stupid enough to make a mistake and get killed, but she didn’t expect it to be this soon. When she heard him speak, she tensed, stopping what she was doing. How had she missed his footfalls when he walked in?
She turned slowly to face him, showing that she didn’t mean any harm, but also showing that she was not about to take any shit from him.
Assess the situation.
Her eyes barely moved from him, but she took note of where everything was. Weapon? He had a gun. Holstered, but his hand twitched towards it. Exit? He stood between it and her. Place to make a run for? There was a metal stock shelf to her right. She might be able to get behind it before he could draw the gun. From there, it would be a mad dash around the various shelves to get to a back room, hopefully with an exit. But that also required luck, and she’d been pretty down on that recently. Escape wasn’t an option. Time to use those people skills.
“I won’t be one of those people if you’re not,” she said, looking at him. She could tell he was a great deal stronger than her, so a fight definitely seemed foolish. She’d better try to make friends.
Just to prove that she was willing to be friendly, she kicked one of the three cans of beans she’d found, sending it rolling over to his feet.

Croatoan || {Michonne & Dean}
Calling on his trusty gritty discipline to suppress his unsteadiness, Dean glanced down at the canned item approaching his right boot before cutting a no-nonsense gaze sideways to meet the woman's. He slowly took a deep breath, steeling himself through the sudden dizziness he felt as if his wound had chosen this clearly auspicious moment to start throbbing. The possibility that this other survivor could be one of the good ones left gave him the impetus to soften his posture, but not withdraw his fingers from the gun.
Don't be stupid, Dean. She could pull a fast one on you yet.
The chastisement was in his father's voice: John Winchester was a strict, leery man who would never win father of the year award, but who most definitely programmed Dean to be vigilant, always. The stern man by no means had raised his boys to be functional and well-adjusted, always enforcing Dean's self-worth to be tied up in how well taken care of Sammy was, but at least the elder Winchester had helped Dean hone his skepticism in people, making the hunter well aware of how easy it was for someone to fuck you over, how easy it would be for anyone to just take anything and everything away from you.
And goddamnit, while we're at it, just a reminder what a fuckery of a job you've done in keeping your brother safe-
Dean exhaled himself out of the castigating reverie just as the can reached the tip of his brown leather boot.
He lifted his chin in an acknowledgment to the woman who, it didn't escape him, had postured herself defensively, while remaining her eye contact with Dean, and slow nodded at her words as the can wedged under his boot.
Maybe he could make this work. She seemed... willing enough, but... there was always a chance... The fact was he needed help. And maybe so did she.
Reconciliation would not mollify the tense situation, but his instincts were softening now as he felt lightheaded and took a moment to clear his head.
He wondered if he was too woozy to make it back outside to keep searching for a first aid kit. As the sweat formed over his brows, hell, he wasn’t even sure he knew which direction was which at this point as the fever started to take hold. He let his hand hang down away from his pistol and managed a small smile.
"Depends on what you are." He swallowed hard as he considered her. If you’re a monster of any kind, i’ll have to kill you. "Do... did you happen to find any medical supplies," He breathed shakily as the throbbing got worse. "I.. -think I'm about to battle some serious infection." He made a movement to walk forward but immediate vertigo washed over him and Dean ended up slumping against a metal shelf, the can of beans accidentally kicked out under him, a slur of "Fuck" escaping his chapped lips.
Please don't be a bad person, please.
She could easily take him out right now as he spiraled into fever if that's what she wanted to do.
"Need some help." Dean said softly from where he leaned uncomfortably against the shelving
The pain was intense enough to make him scream.

Nice Car || {Thanos & Dean}
Dean rolled his eyes even as his left arm instinctively stretched out over the Impala's hood; his fingers tenderly fondling across the Impala's hood, careful and certain. Concurrently, he wondered what the taller man (yes, taller. The mystery guy obviously had a couple inches up on Dean, and yeah, THAT was new) wanted with him. Dean instinctively felt like he was being played with all the while recalling with a blush just how accurate the other man's rather forward statement was.
The hunter thought back to the awkward first time he shared himself physically as he scoffed in defiance. But the truth was this guy had no idea how true it was. It had been twelve year old Dean alone in the Impala, and yeah it was, uh, weird, but whatever, it happened, and after so many years since then he was left with his soul bleeding and scars acquired, and yeah he loved this car; she had been there all along. There is a longevity there that cannot be denied.
Dean looked back up in the man's direction as he felt a flush over his neck. Noticing the man's smirk as he walked around the car and suddenly feeling vulnerable, Dean snuffed at the man's behaviour; his green eyes now glaring cooly at the stranger.
It wasn't often that someone could catch Dean in an honest moment. He swallowed hard, and wondered why he suddenly felt like the stranger did know his intimate secret, could see right through him.
Bravely, he made eye contact, and licking his lips let himself speak before knowing what he was going to say. The words spilled out, surprising himself, "Yes, but why would you care?"

@travelerlainewalker Dean blinked, feeling struck, and shook his head. "Who.. what... ??" The hunter stood still, lips pursed looking back at Baby and then focused back at the spot where the tall dark stranger stood. In all honesty, Dean wasn't sure whether to be impressed or pissed off as fuck at the brazen inquiry, challenge, really, made by the figure, who yeah, was actually the epitome of tall, dark-haired and boyishly handsome, even with his cute little eyes that glinted mischievously at him. The strange figure offered no further comment, and Dean knew he must look really fucking stupid as he just stood and stared at the stranger incredulously. Finally, after a few long seconds, he slowly licked his lips, breathing out and countered, coherently, this time. "Sorry, buddy. Not for all the tea in China." he said, hoping he didn't sound too flustered.
