what could this boy possibly want at 8:30 pm? couldn't this wait until tomorrow?
you slowly crept out of your room in the suite and checked up on your parents in the master bedroom, they were out cold, per usual.
your calves stretch as you squint into the peephole, small kitchen knife in hand making sure it was really him because you've watched too much true crime when you were younger and didn't want to take any chances.
and yep. there he was, leaning against the hallway with his hands in his pockets , his eyes flickering towards the door making eye contact with you each time unknowingly.
you chuckle to yourself internally. this boy had a lot of nerve.
you slowly open the door careful to not let it creak and wake your parents "what do you want?" you said ,sotto voce.
"hi." he smiled stupidly "why do you have that?" he snickered grabbing your wrist pulling you fully out of the room gently, closing the door behind you with a soft click.
" had to make sure you weren't like a mob boss or something." you shrugged.
"okay seriously, what do you want?" you said tugging your hand away
" i cant just want to come see you?" he frowned, now in your bubble.
"not at 8pm you cant."
"you still answered." he smiled softly so big and stupid his eyes wrinkled at the corners. "cmon, i wanted to show you something." he ribbed.
before you could decline his hand slotted into yours, gently but persistently guiding you with him. "show me what?" you groaned your legs already following with his to wherever he was taking you.
he guided you down the hall to the elevators since you were on the 4th floor. even then, his hand still stuck to yours. he hummed a song softly tapping his knuckle to a circular button completely disregarding the question you just asked. not because it was some grand surprise , but because he genuinely didn't have an answer himself. he didn't have a gameplan properly thought through past getting you to come out of your room.
"miles???" you asked again
he smirked to himself, obviously hearing you his thumb grazing the back of your palm in repetitive swipes.
you were not a fan of silent treatment. " i know you hear me!" your voice raised as you slapped the back of his head making him loll forward.
"ah- what the hell!" he yelped with a voice crack his hand immediately going to the back of his neck to ease the soft sting.
"why are you ignoring me??' you ask, not even realizing he's been holding your hand for the past 5 minutes.
the elevator came to a stop with a soft ding and he pulled you closer, very close his chest millimeters from yours , his eyes softened and flickered over your face. "were here." he whispered before guiding you again along the atrium , the neon lights illuminated the ship in the prettiest colors.
you gave up trying to get an answer from him, you're convinced he's literally an idiot or an axe murderer and that it was finally your time.
a few minutes into walking the path started to get familiar until, the pool came into view. "miles."
"hm?' he said peeking back at you, almost knowing what you were gonna say.
"what is this." you said flatly. kinda annoyed now.
"bonding time?" he said , not sure if he was trying to convince you or himself. finally, his suspiciously clammy hand released from yours as he pulled his shirt off swiftly in routine, he took a deep breath rowing his shoulders back his trap and lat muscles flexing and softening with his movements before diving into the pool and swimming a bit farther into the deep end like he needed to clear his head, strokes sharp and long like a fishing spear.
you couldn't even be mad anymore, you were already here and you forgot your room key thinking it would be a quick meeting that wouldn't extend past your suite door, so you'd be here awhile.
unfortunately, you weren't a guy so you couldn't just rip your shirt off and dive into the pool, actually you were greatly unprepared. because you were under the impression that this meeting wouldn't extend past your suite door you were now at the pool in an oversized t-shirt that drooped off your shoulder, and a pair of shorts that you grew out well over 3 years ago and they were now exclusively pajamas, never to be seen in public, but unfortunately , to the public it is today.
you decided to make yourself comfortable and just sat at the ledge of the pool dipping your feet in the lukewarm water. i guess it was nice at night.
miles seemed to disappear for a while the only trace of him were the small bubbles revealing his path, for a minute you even forgot he was the one that dragged you here.
gracefully, he emerged from the water with a soft exhale. he swam to you his arms folding at the ledge as he rested his cheek on them, staring up at you fondly. "you have swimming lessons." he murmured softly.
you looked down to meet his big hazel eyes. "this couldn't wait until tomorrow?"
he sighed and let his eyes flicker over you. " there's nobody here, no distractions. pools always crowded. this was the best time."
"hm really?' you quipped jocularly
"mmmm-hmm." he said slowly moving in front of you, his hands moving to cup both of your thighs and prop his chin on one of your knees, puppy eyes slowly activating. " i told you i would, remember?"
"you didn't even tell me, i don't even have the proper clothes."
he gave you a sly once over and shrugged "i don't either. cmon, its just me." his hand affectionately rubbed along the inside of your thigh that he was holding and resting his chin against.
"so? i cant just go back to my room soaking wet."
"towels." he solved speedily.
"my god." you sighed softly.
"cmon." he coaxed both of his wet hands reaching to span your waist, he pauses and looks up at you as a silent question.
"fine."
his hands confidently lowered you into the pool as of your were light as a feather, in his case to him you were. like lukewarm water coated your body in a shock making you gasp softly.
"its not that bad" he cooed teasingly, still his hands remainng on your waist not keeping you too far from him.
"how are you supposed to teach me how to swim and i cant get my hair wet?. you know this." you complained.
"ah-shit. right." his smirk dropped softly.
"you don't trust me? i just held you on my shoulders for like hours today." he said with a sassy eye roll
the water settled around both of you in gentle ripples, the only sounds being the distant hum of the ship and the occasional crash of waves below the deck
these so called" swimming lessons" were long gone as miles floated backwards for a second one arm lazily keeping himself above water as he looked p at the sky.
"y'know." he started" this was a shitty plan."
you laughed "you think?"
"a little late, yeah."
"a little?"
"okay, very late."
you shook your head the ripple of each other's movements echoed close to your ears. " you dragged me out of my room with no explanation."
"i had an explanation." he defended.
"what was it?"
he opened his mouth.
closed it.
opened it again.
"..."
"exactly."
"okay, maybe i didn't have a fully developed plan, but the thought was there."
you stared at him. "so you disrupted my night merely for a concept?"
"yeah."
you laughed again, the sound echoed off the water.
miles smiled immediately.
not because of the joke. but because he was realizing he liked being the reason you laughed. more than winning any petty uno game tournament or intense game of chicken.
a dangerous realization, honestly.
he drifted a little closer without really thinking about it. "you know what my actual reason was?"
you raised an eyebrow "what?"
he shrugged. "i just kinda wanted to hang out with you." simple, honest.
the kind of sentence that held more weight than it should.
you expression softened, "we've been hanging out all the time."
"not really."
"we don't?"
He started counting on finger's, again.
"naomi steals you.." he started.
you roll your eyes "oh my god."
"mateoooo" he said slightly louder and dramatic, mateo seems to bother him a lot more. " hes been stealing you."
you laughed " so dramatic."
"im serious." his eyebrows knitted together as his eyes met yours. "i wanted one moment that was mine." he confessed "ours."
the teasing disappeared from his face, water moved gently between you.
somewhere overhead, music drifted faintly from another deck.
you weren't sure who moved first , maybe neither of you did, maybe the space between you and him just got smaller somehow
soon enough now that you could see the tiny freckles the sun pulled out across his nose and cheeks. close enough to notice the way his expression changed from teasing to uncertain.
like he was suddenly realizing exactly how close the two of you were standing,
his voice quiet and careful this time.
"can i?"
your stomach flipped.
you nodded once.
the kiss was brief, soft, tentative in the way first kisses usually are
less confidence and fireworks.
more curiosity
more, oh
so this is what this feels like.
you could feel his breath against your lips before he did it gain , firmer, more confident this time. this time he didn't let you pull away, his hand cupping the back of your neck so gently like you were made out of porcelain. your chest pounded against his, so loud and hard you were convinced he could feel it and hear it.
a nervous giggle fell from your lips, a sound that he wasn't familiar with yet, but he definitely liked being the cause of it. he smiled softly against your lips his hand reaching down to hoist you up by your thighs, his hands remaining in respectful places.
he looked up at you briefly like you were the enetr of his world before leaning into kiss again, "mmm" he hummed in delight kissing you deeper.
it wasn't long before you got lost in it too looping your arms around his neck to brace yourself.
it's been at least a minute of him kissing you over and over one less clumsy than the last and you desperately needed air,you reluctantly pulled away with soft pants that matched his.
"wow." he panted.
you laughed softly "wow?"
he licked his lips while staring intensely at yours, already not getting enough of the taste of your lips. "i genuinely didn't think i would get this far."
his grin returned instantly
big, stupid. and dangerously charmings
this was definitely going to complicate the rest of the cruise.
the realization hit him first.
you were absolutely soaked.
your shirt and shorts clung to your figure and weighed twice as much as they had about an hour ago.
miles stared, you stared back.
"..."
"..."
"oh."
"yeah,oh" you deadpanned.
"right."
"great observation skills."
he winced.
"okay in my defense, i was focused on other things."
"oncerning statement."
"not like that!"
you laughed.
"see? you laugh and then i forget what i'm doing."
you snorted.
he let out a boyish giggle alongside you as he pushed himself out of the pool.
"stay there."
"thats never reassuring."
"stay."
"whatever."
you watched him disappear around the corner barefoot and dripping water across the deck.
he returned approximately two minutes later carrying enough towels to survive a flood.
"miles-"
"..."
"where did you get all those?"
"..."
"miles."
"...the towel fairy."
"you stole those."
"i borrowed."
he held one open dramatically. "c'mere"
you rolled your eyes but stepped closer anyways. the towel wrapped around your shoulders instantly.
warm,soft.
he used with it for another second before stepping back to inspect his work.
perfect.
"a burrito."
you looked down
you did, admittedly, resemble a blanket cocoon.
"thank you."
he shrugged.
"i'm a gentleman."
"you stole cruise property."
"a gentleman adapts to his environment."
another laugh, another stupid grein from him because apparently he collected your laugh like trophies now.
the two of you settled into neighboring lounge chairs.
the pool lights reflected off the water in dancing blues and greens.
for a while neither of you said anything.
it wasn't awkward. just quiet. comfortable.
miles pulled out a huge slushy, what seemed out of nowhere.
"miles literally what the hell." you laughed out.
he held up his cup proudly "blue rasberry"
he offered you the cup, he didn't have to tell you twice , or at all before you took a sip. monents later he took an obnoxiously dramatic sip while maintaining direct eye contact the entire time
you stared at him , you stared back.
"what?"
"you did that on pourpse."
he grinned harder against the straw.
by the time he walked you back to your room the ship had gone quiet.
11:03 glowed from the corner of your phone screen.
"wow."
"wow what?"
"you kidnapped me for three hours."
four technically.
"felt like 5 minutes." he grinned.
you stopped outside your door, for a second neither of you moved.
the hallwas felt quieter than the rest of the ship somehow.
"thanks," you said finally.
he tilted his head.
"for what?"
"the towels. slushie, kidnapping."
"anytime."
you laughed softly
his miles softened with it.
"see you tomorrow?"
like there was ever another answer
"yeah."
"cool."
neither of you moved , again.
"you're still standing there."
"so are you."
then he leaned forward just enough to press a quick kiss to your forehead.
gentle, a little longer than usual. like he wanted to savor it.
gone, almost immediately
"goodnight,roomie."
you blinked.
"roomie?"
he pointed down the hallway. "same ship."
you laughed.
"goodnight, weirdo."
his grin returned instantly. big.
he walked backwards down the hallway for several steps before finally turning around, you waited until he disappeared around the corner before going back inside.

you woke up sore, volleyball for three hours straight sore.
your shoulders complained when you stretched. your calves tightened with every step and strain, even your hands somehow hurt.
you had fun so it was worth it.
the room was quiet except for the distant wash of waves around the ship.
7:02am
your parents were still asleep your mom snuggled against your dad's chest like they were on a honeymoon.
you rolled out of bed your bonnet threatening to slide off with any sudden movement, your hand sluggishly rubbed the crust out of your eyes and wipes off the bit of mascara that you forgot to take off fully last night before you crashed in bed.
reluctantly, you shuffled toward the bathroom like it was a school day.
today you felt lazy , you didn't feel like trying very hard.
you took your hair out of its nightly two braided pigtails to help maintain your hair and keep its tangle-free and put it into a side part , the french boho curls falling around your face and shoulders effortlessly.
a little mascara , blush and lipgloss. done.
you took a quick shower and came out shuffling through drawers to find something cute but lazy to throw on. you found a simple halter top white sundress , it was simple and comfortable.
by 7:45 you were wandering towards the breakfast buffet with your room key in hand and your phone in the other. the buffet was almost empty considering how early it was.
a few older couples scattered around.
you grabbed your plate , you weren't really a breakfast food person so your plate consisted of mostly fruits, half of a cream cheese bagel and a strawberry banana smoothie.
you turned around to find a seat and you made eye contact with miles and he looked at you in a way that he must've been waiting for you to notice him in the small crowd.
oh, didn't know he was here.
for a second both of you just froze before he made his way closer to you, a toast in his hand
"fancy seeing you here" he said softly.
his curls were a bit wild and more frizzy than usual , he had on a pair of shorts that hung low on his waist and a plain white shirt that had deep wrinkles like he slept hard.
"just rolling out of bed?" you teased doing a soft once over.
"mmm yeah, i look beautiful i know." he teased back his voice was much softer and raspy like he hasn't said a word yet this morning until he saw you.
a moment passed where you guys were just awkwardly glacing at each other not knowing what to say next. because what do you say to someone at 7am on a cruise?
his elbow tapped yours for your attention as he pointed his chin to an empty pair of chairs overlooking the ocean "lets go sit."
"oh no-i don't wanna interrupt your breakfast." you shooed
he shifted little closer to you signaling to move with him "you're not interrupting anything."
the conversation came easy with miles, easier than it should've. volleyball, the pool, gift shop trinkets.
his eyes dropped towards you hands as you picked a grape off the stem and you noticed immediately.
"...what?"
"nothing."
"what's wrong with my hands?"
"they're lowkey creeping me out—i've never seen hands that small." he murmured looking at his own hand spreading all five fingers analyzing it from front to back like he hadn't had them attached to him all 17 years of his life, then yours his eyes widening like a curious puppy.
you looked at your own hands too. "now you're making me self conscious." your lips pursed to the side.
miles shook his head "what—no..every hand is beautiful , no matter what..size."
people passing by probably thought yall were stupid or just high out of your minds.
he sighed leaning into his chair "you know." miles started "seems like everyone's been getting a piece of you except me these days." you sighed dramatically. "you forgot all about little ol me."
you nearly choked on a grape "—what?"
he sat up leaning closer to you as he started listing off with his fingers "naomi stole you."
"okay.."
"then mateo"
"then your parents."
you laughed "i can't control that."
"okay well—learn to." he dismissed , his lips forming a playful pout "i've been trying to spend time with you , friend."
the word sounded intentional , like he wanted you to hear it.
you frowned "were hanging out right now thoughhh"
"yeah yeah." he rolled his eyes "so, you and mateo been getting a little close hm?" he questioned lightly
"hm?" you hummed back
"you guys were laughing a lot at the beach yesterday."
you smiled softly recalling the memory "we were huh?"
"mhm."
"you were watching us?"
"i observe everyone equally?" he defended. "no but seriously—when did you guys start talking so much?" he said propping his chin on his hand leaning on the small table between you two "just wondering." he added, soo casually.
"well—when we left the pool he helped me carry my things to my room and he met my parents and stuff and it was just this whole funny thing." you explained reliving the moment in between soft giggles.
"i havent met your parents." he muttered, bitter and whiny.
his eyes widened seconds after "that's not—"
you started laughing, "you wanna meet my parents?"
"that's not what i said."
"then why are you mad?" you accused.
"PSH—wha—? im not madddd? what are you talking about." he said feigning innocence.
you playfully roll your eyes before your phone buzzed beside your plate
dad:
you alive?
you smiled immediately
miles pursed his lips out and peeked over your phone curiously his leg bouncing like an anxious dog "mateo?"
"..what?"
"is that mateo texting you?"
you stared and narrowed your eyes. "why would mateo have my number?"
"instagram?"
"huh?"
"does he have your instagram?"
you started laughing.
"miles."
"what?"
"why do you care?" you chuckled out.
he shrugged
you held up your phone dramatically close to his face. "its my dad seeee?"
"..oh"
you grinned smugly. "happy?"
"mhmm" he said, you could visibly see his face relax.
"anyways— i know sign language." he said , a strange way to change the subject.
"really?"
"yeah, i know a lil sum-sum." he boasted
you sat up, interested. "can you teach me?"
his eyebrows lifted "right now?"
"mhm!"
he looked around dramatically "okay but if you become fluent overnight i want credit." he then got out of his chair and sat in yours, it was fairly big and had enough space for the both of you.
"okay." he held up his hands "im gonna teach you how to spell your name."
he slowly showed you each letter and you copied him the best you could. key word, the best you could.
he laughed softly throwing his head back. "oh lord."
"what? i'm learning!"
"clearly" he quipped.
he reached over "here."
his fingers gently adjusted yours "this goes here." his hand wrapped around yours for only a second, maybe even less. "there you go."
"this feels like cheating."
"im teaching."
"you're moving my hand for me."
"it's all about the visuals."
you playfully bumped his shoulder with your own. he looked entirely too pleased about it.
then—
"oh??"
both of you looked up to the sound source
naomi stood a few feet away holding an iced coffee and looking far too entertained , her eyes moving in between you two with a soft, taunting smile. then your hands. still suspiciously close together.
"....am i interrupting something?"
you frowned immediately. "what?no?"
"yes." miles said, not a beat behind.
your head whipped toward miles
"WHAT?"
naomi burst out laughing and raised her hands in surrender "my bad, carry on."
"what—? carry on what??" you scrambled while miles was actively trying not to smile, which somehow made it worse.
naomi looked between the two of you one last time then nodded to herself. "mhm."
you started after her as she went back to where she came from.
"...what was that supposed to mean??"
"noo idea." miles shrugged "anyways—back to our lesson."
you guys couldn't stay away from the pool for too long as soon as the clock hit 12 the group was back again at the pool, but instead of being in your lounge chair tanning actually decided to come near the pool dipping your feet in with naomi and some of the girls kiara, samira and elena.
"sooooooo" naomi began , already smirking softly. "any boys we find cute yet?" she asked broadly, but it was definitely directed to you
"yeah, i saw a lifeguard at the kiddie pool, hes hot." samira said
"oh my god— samira he's like 30 years old!" elena laughed
"so?? still hot." she shrugged.
"he is hot." naomi agreed.
you were zoned out your feet gently kicking in the water. before you felt wet hand grab your calf.
"Y/N...!" miles gasped his curls soaking wet and his cheeks slightly red and sun-kissed "YOU WANNA SEE MY HANDSTAND?" he said choking on water like a child.
your eyes winded as quickly as they softened as you noticed who was grabbing your leg. "sure miles." you chuckled
"OKAY—LOOK." he said taking a big gasp before diving head first back into the pool in front you doing a handstand, you couldn't lie, it was clean.
he came back up with an excitedly and expectant smile.
you clapped softly "woo, so amazing!" you cheered softly
his smile,if possible got even bigger and did a dramatic bow before swimming away.
"so." naomi began again. "miles is cute." she said smiling at you.
"mm, yeah." you say casually
samira and elena both look at you with soft curious looks, immediately peeping what naomi was hinting at.
"you guys are cute." elena added
"together." naomi chimed in.
"uhm—what?" you chuckled. " you guys are acting weird."
"nobody's being weird, just sayin" naomi sung softly
in a heartbeat miles swam his way over again " i heard my name."
"said it once but okay, youre just nosy." naomi sassed.
"you guys talking about me?" he said feigning anger
"yes." naomi admitted.
"good things?" he said sweetly
"mmmm, sorta." you said still gently kicking your feet.
"ugh you guys are so boring, when will you guys actually get in the pool." he whined shifting into a floating position
"LETS PLAY CHICKEN." amir shouted from across the pool
" y/nnnnnn come onnnn, play chicken with us." miles whined softly.
"but my hai—"
"i wont let you fall!" he interrupted. he swam next to you gently hugging your calf , his cheek squished tightly against your leg "pleaseeeee? cmon!!!"
suddenly everyone was in the water arguing about strategy like the cruise Olympics was on the line.
you looked down , "absolutley not."
miles stood waist deep in the water looking up at you with a confused face. "what do you mean???"
"you better not drop me miles i swear ill hate you forever." you warned.
"i literally told you i was a lifeguard, if i can carry a limp body from deep end to shore, i can carry you." he said softly
"oh please—they were probably like 7 years old!"
"dead weight is seriously heavy."
"i wont let you fall." he reassured sincerely.
your hand rested lightly on the top of his head for balance.
"oh hell no."
"its fine! you're fine!" he said moving around with ease to face everyone else.
despite all your complaining he held steady beneath you, ridiculously steady. his hands stayed secure against your legs to keep you balanced while the water moved around both of you.
across from you, naomi sat samira's shoulders looking entirely too confident and the game dissolved into chaos almost immediately. splashing, laughing. naomi almost tipped you over but before you could flail over miles steadies you immediately. one hand shifted to your upper thigh to keep you more steady.
"see? i got you." he sounded entirely too pleased with himself.
by the end, everyone was exhausted, sunburnt, and waterlogged.
you sat at the ledge of the pool dangling your feet in the water while everyone continued debating behind you.
miles dropped down beside you. "so, do i get a reward for proving you wrong?"
"you mean not letting me drown?" you asked.
"yeah! i mean , i did really good right?" he reasoned scooting closer to you "sooo?"
"what do you want?" you chuckled, entertaining the idea
"whatever you're offering." he said slyly.
"you want a slushy from the cafe?"
"mm..alright."
the trip to the cafe was cut short because you had a little quality time with your parents and you got back to your room sometime after that night around eight.
the shower washed away the chlorine and sunscreen left behind, but your body still felt like it was in the pool and the water was hugging you in waves.
your phone lit up before you even climbed into bed.
@ m.morales sent you a message • just now

by seven the pool deck looked sun-drunk.
wet footprints faded into the ground almost as quickly as they appeared. towels hung over chair backs and railings. empty cups sat abandoned beside lounge chairs people had claimed hours ago and forgotten about entirely.
somewhere overhead, a speaker cracked into another summer song. the kind that would probably ruin your life in six months because hearing it would remind you of this exact moment.
the boys were still in the pool, of course they were.
their games of chicken evolved into some kind of elaborate war involving splashing, dunking and accusations of cheating.
beside you, Naomi lowered her sunglasses.
"okay."
you looked over. "okay what?"
"the oil workkedddddd, see?" Naomi smiled
the day had genuinely drained your social battery and the sun might've fried your brain a little bit. "oil?"
"the tanning oil.."
"oh."
you looked down at your arm. then looked again.
oh.
"oooo." your skin practically glowed under the evening light. the tan lines on your shoulders looked sharper. "omg this looks so good im so tan!" you whispered excitedly.
Naomi checked you out proudly " i told you it worksss, you look so tan only on day one!"
you owe her your life now.
her phone buzzed, she checked it and immediately frowned.
"oh my gosh."
your eyebrows furrowed in concern "what?"
she sighs and prepares to collect her belongings her phone sliding in her pocket of her shorts "my mom wants me to go to dinner with her."
"aw" you whined softly.
she let her head fall back dramatically. "i don't wanna leave."
"its fineee, you'll survive."
"will I?"
a minute of her procrastinating she started gathering her things and sliding her sunglasses onto her head. "I'll see you tomorrow?"
the question came out casually , like obviously there'd be a tomorrow and you'd hang out.
"yeah."
she smiled. "cool."
then she disappeared toward the elevators leaving you alone with your thoughts and approximately eight hundred personal belongings.
seriously.
how did one person accumulate this much stuff?
your tote bag sat beside your chair overflowing with:
your book
your charger
your room key
phone
lipgloss
sunglasses
a keychain you got from a gift shop on the way to the pool
a half empty water bottle
and a wet towel that weighed like 40 pounds.
you stared at it.
the bag stared back.
"you moving cabins?"
you looked up.
Mateo pointed his chin toward the pile.
"that's concerning amount of stuff."
you laughed and nodded because honestly, yeah.
"I don't know what i was thinking."
He glanced how at the towel hanging from your arm.
"you want help?"
"im okay , don't worry."
you bent down to grab your tote. immediately dropped your phone.
mateo raised his eyebrow, a silent victory.
you sighed. "maybe a little."
"thought so."
he picked up the towel in swift effort , then the charger , then the water bottle balancing dangerously under your arm.
"you know i could carry that."
"i know." he quipped
"sooo why are you carrying it?"
he shook his head softly his head tilting to the side "do you always act like this when you need help?"
"wha—no. i didn't mean it like that." you chuckled.
"mhm?' his eyebrow raising impossibly higher before he cracked a smile and a boyish giggle.
the walk back felt quieter than the rest of the day had been, not an awkward quiet, a comfortable one. where the soft music in the background from adult bars and the waves of the nearby ocean around you filled the noise. plus the sound of flip flops quacking.
"you surviving?
you looked over "hm?"
"the group and stuff."
"oh"
he giggled lightly.
"thats a yes?"
"i think so, yeah."
"good."
a pause. "you disappeared after lunch yesterday and everyone thought you got kidnapped."
you looked over immediately.
"what???"
"im serious."
"by who???"
"i dunno, pirates."
you laughed
"cruise pirates?"
"big issue in the industry."
He nodded seriously. "very devastating for the morale."
you shook your head.
"good to know i was missed though."
Mateo looked over at you " yeah"
the hallway to your room appeared quicker than expected. "that's me."
He looked at the room number "damn."
"what?'
"you live farr"
your keycard beeped green.
"baby?" your moms voice drifted from somewhere inside.
"im back" you announced stepping inside .
Mateo awkwardly hovered near the doorway.
Your mom rounded the corner. "OH!"
immediately followed by "oh helloo."
your dad looked up from the balcony and mateo straightened up immediately.
"Hi."
Your mother looked between you two.
"he helped me carry my stuff back."
As if on cue, mateo lifted the towel still hanging from his arm. "oh."
her expression softened immediately "that was sweet."
Mateo introduced himself with a firm handshake to your dad and within approximately twelve seconds your parents loved him. it was honestly impressive.
"so, how was the pool?" your mom asked
mateo laughed, a pure charmer "chaotic."
a wave a chuckled filled the space before he look at his phone , kinda late.
He pointed at you "see you tomorrow."
again , not if , not maybe. tomorrow.
the door closed behind him
silence.
then your mother slowly turned toward you.
"sooooooo..."
you closed your eyes trying not to laugh
"No."
"no what?"
"whatever youre thinking."
"I havent said anything"
"you were going to."
"I was going to ask if you had fun."
"mhm. liar" you said plopping your body limp onto the bed next to her.
the shower washed away sunscreen and chlorine and saltwater and left behind exhaustion , the good kind the kind that settled in your muscles after a day that somehow felt longer than it was
you exfoliated until your heart's content and once you got out of the shower you lathered yourself in all kinds of scented oils and lotions.
you slipped into your favorite pajamas that looked like luxury and was only purposed to serve and impress yourself.
your hair was braided and put into a bonnet and you finally slipped into bed letting the golden sunset cast onto the blanket and your skin
you grabbed your phone that smelled like outside and chlorine
you stopped
@ m.morales followed you • 2hrs ago
your eyebrows lifted.
lunch.
naomi's phone.
the photos.
oh god.
he memorized your username
you laughed to yourself then follwed him back
@ m.morales sent you a message
you opened it immediately.
finally followed me back huh?
you started at the screen.
i was busy , just saw itt
typing..
stopped.
typing again..
doing what tanning cant be that serious.
you smiled at your screen.
okay weirdo stalking me i had fun today though
the conversation sloweed here.
The joking disappeared just as quickly as it came.
then typed:
yeah me too
a few seconds passed
then
good :)
small, simple. but somehow your chest felt strangely warm anyway.
mornings on cruises felt weirdly fake like the normal rules of time had stopped applying somewhere in the middle of the ocean.
you woke up to sunlight pushing through the curtains and the soun do your mom already moving around your room.
"gooooooodddd morning sunshineeee!" shes sang
our groaned into your pillow.
"it's absolutely not"
"it's ten thirty."
"exactly , the day has started."
by eleven you were walking through the white sand with your sandals hanging from your fingers while your parents debated where to put their chairs.
the water was so blue and clear it looked photoshopped.
story posted.
the ocean, your freshly painted french tip pedicure in the sand
your slid your phone back into your tote and pulled out your book.
@ m.morales replied to your story
wyaaa??
you laughed to yourself
beach excursion thing with my parents
typing...
rude. abandoning us already.
you giggled once more
it wasn't my decision.
guilty by association
youre so dramatic
a pause
how long are you there for?
you looked up toward your parents currently arguing over umbrella placement.
probably not leaveing antime soon.
no clue
hm
then
what are you doing later?
subtle, almost subtle enough that if someone asked you could probably pretend that wasn't what he was asking.
surviving probably
sounds fun
might try it sometime
highly recommended
your phone buzzed again almost instantly
if you're bored come find us
around an hour later your parents decided they wanted more margaritas
you wanted to walk
"go find your friends in they're here."
you looked over
"what?"
your mom shrugged.
"you have friends now."
the way she said it made your eyes narrow.
"you're being weird"
"im being supportive."
she laughed
"go."
you rolled your eyes. but went.
the beach stretched farhen than you expected
families. couples. kids building sandcastles
people reading book under the umbrellas
then volleyball.
you recognized mateos laugh , before you recognized anybody else.
your head turned no way.
absolutely no way.
naomi spotted you first
her mouth dropped open dramatically
"OHMY GADDDDDDDDD"
you laughed immediately as she tackled you gently into the sand.
"what are you doing here?"
"what are YOU doing here?"
Mateo pointed accusingly.
"following us."
"yall are ACTUALLYYY following me."
"impossible."
"prove it."
"cant."
"exactly."
miles looked up from where he was digging a volleyball out of the sand.
for a second he just stared
then
"no way."
"that's what i said."
"this island has like eight thousand people on it."
"and somehow you're here."
"crazy coincidence."
"almost unbelievable."
Naomi snorted.
"Right because none of us texted each other this morning."
silence
you looked at miles.
miles looked at the ocean.
mateo looked like a fascinated by a seagull suddenly
interesting.
your mom appeared beside you seemingly out of nowhere.
"oh good, you found them."
"well be over here if you need up , dont forget sunscreen."
"mom."
"sorry."
Naomi scooted closer her hand reaching between you two "okay wait. did you bring it?"
you binked
"the camera."
"oh-right yes."
her gasp qualified as a medical emergency.
"no way."
"yesss way."
you pulled your camera out carefully beacse, that was your baby.
mateo looked over your hsoulder "mm looks expessive. is it?"
"very."
ten minutes later the two of you had become insufferable.
"Turn your shoulder a little."
"No the other shoulder."
"Perfect."
"Wait hold on."
Naomi grabbed your sunglasses.
"Put these on."
"Oh we're getting serious."
"We've BEEN serious."
You laughed.
The camera clicked.
Again.Again.Again.
"Wait these are actually so cute."
"I know."
"No seriously look."
The screen turned toward you.
Oh.
Those were cute.
the ocean blurred softly behind her. the sun caught the edges of her hair. the pictures looked like summer felt.
"You get it."
You looked over.
Naomi was staring at the camera screen.
"You literally get it."
Something warm settled in your chest.
"Thanks."
a volleyball landed near your feet
you looked up.
mateo raised both hands ready to receive it back
"recruitment."
"huh?"
"we need another player."
the first game somehow ended with you standing beside miles , again.
not intentionally, just happened.
"okay."
she pointed across the net.
"im warning you now."
"about what??"
"im competitive."
the game started and volleyball was significantly harder than movie suggested.
the first ball headed towards you
you panic
"yours!"
"thats easy for you to say—"
you hit it anyway
"NICEEE"
you looked over.
miles gave you a thumbs up
things started to get easier and you got the hang of it.
by the end of the game you were laughing too hard to care who was winning.
"trade."
mateo pointed at you.
"huh?"
"im stealing her."
" you cant do that."
apparently he could
the teams switched
the game continued and Mateo was genuinely one of the funniest people you'd ever met.
you laughed so hard your stomach hurt.
eventually you and naomi snuck off again to take pictures and the boys watch from nearby with varying level of concern.
"I don't understand whats happening."
"pictures, girl stuff" mateo sighed laying in the sand one hand covering his sweaty forehead as his tan skin glistened in the sun his curls sticking to the sides of his face.
every once in a while you caught miles looking over.

quick psa regarding my dni/rules because i think there may have been some misunderstandings ♡
when i mention things like israel or ice, i am referring to policies, actions, and institutions that i personally view as harmful or unjust in the way they proceed with things—not individuals based on their nationality, ethnicity, religion, or identity.
i do not hate people for being israeli, jewish, immigrant, christian, muslim, etc. i believe all people deserve safety, dignity, and human rights!!!!!
my dni exists to curate my own space and avoid conflict, not to claim that my opinions are the only valid ones or to force anyone to agree with me
this blog is primarily a creative space for writing, fandom, and fun, and i’d like to keep it that way ♡

somewhere between uno and lunch, your exit strategy disappears completely. one game became three and three soon became six. and somehow the one hour you'd promised to your mom had quietly turned into an entire afternoon.
"absolutely not." Miles slid a card onto the table dramatically. "nope. not happening."
"What are you talking about??" Naomi asked, poking her head out slightly.
"teams."
"there are no teams in uno." Amir chimed.
"okay well it is now, as group leader." Miles bickered, both of his hands flattening out his shorts.
you watched the argument unfold from beside him, trying not to laugh because you don't feel that in-place yet.
trying, and failing.
"Me and her."
"What?" you perked up.
"We're a team, partners." he said, scooting even closer to you. "you don't want to be partners with anyone else, they suck." his hands hovered over yours to see the deck of cards that you were holding. "may I?"
"okay so this is cheating—" Amir interrupted.
"we're strategizing." He reasoned, not even bothering to meet his eyes but intensely focusing on your cards like they were the holder to your secrets. his hand brushed briefly over yours as his scent got more familiar. "no no no no no—" he whispered beside you, "don't play that one." he suggested, gently tucking the card to the bottom of your deck. "okay so—we should save those, just in case—always save the skips." He whispered delicately, only for you.
"whatever you say.." you whisper back, staring at the cards like you understood what was going on, knew how to strategize an uno game...like match the colors/numbers and call it a day.
three turns later..
"BOOM." Miles slapped his hand on the table triumphantly as you placed the draw four exactly when he told you to.
the table erupted into groans and gasps.
"THAT'S NOT FAIR—"
"WTF???????!!!"
you just sat there with a shy smile on your face but you were definitely fighting back the biggest grin of your life, because you like to win just as much as he does, you're just more humble.
Miles slid his hand towards yours for a high five? dap? you couldn't tell, you just gulped and lightly pressed your hand onto his. immediately his hand slapped yours followed with a join of fingers.
"too easy."
and by the end of the third game you knew everyone's names.
Naomi, Kiara, Samira, Elias, Mateo, Amir, Jules, Elena and Miles of course.
Naomi was loud in a comforting way, the type of person who made friends with cashiers and would give you a pep talk in the club bathroom when you're seconds away from drunk calling your ex boyfriend. you liked her a lot.
The boys somehow managed to argue over absolutely everything and used one of the girls to break ties to justify their pointless arguments.
after that very intense uno tournament everyone just lingered around the table scrolling on their phones, occasionally looking over each others shoulders and sending each other videos even though they were an arm's length away from each other until Miles announced—
"im starving." he groaned, his arms extending along the headrests of the couch, his head lolling back in dramatic exhaustion.
"you always are, fatass." Mateo quipped, slapping his exposed Adam's apple playfully from behind.
Miles yelped and clutched his throat protectively, "its literally noon—how am i a fatass?!?"
"you're always the first one to get hungry, all you talk about is your next meal."
"psh—whatever. IM hungry so IM gonna eat." he murmured before his eyes softened meeting yours. "you hungry?"
to be honest you've been starving for the past hour, clutching your stomach every time it threatened to growl but didn't want to say anything out of anxiety.
you shrugged. "i could eat."
everyone ended up at one of the casual restaurants overlooking the water, floor to ceiling windows framed the endless blue ocean.
you couldn't help but notice the ridiculous size of Miles' burger, literally the size of your head.
"wow." you could've sworn you said that in your head.
"what??" He said, his hand palming the burger on both sides adjusting his grip as he decided what position should be the best bite.
"thats huge"
"protein." he quipped before taking a generous bite.
before you could even answer Naomi came back from the bathroom. "oh my god wait." she pointed at your shorts, "those are so cute."
you looked down instinctively. "these?"
"yes those."
"thanksss" you said shyly.
"where are they from??! i need them."
that somehow became a 20 minute conversation over pasta and apple juice. shorts became tops, jewelry, and then hairstyles. interactions like these always reminded you of how much of a social butterfly you could be once brought out of your shell.
you guys ended up exchanging socials and now just complimenting each other back and forth.
"oh my gosh this picture of you looks so good wtffffff, sickening." she gasped softly.
"yeahh i love my digital camera, i use it for pictures more than my phone."
"what camera?? Don't gatekeep, the quality is amazingggggg i love the orange flash thingy." she begged, looking over your pictures for the millionth time.
"the g7x, i got it as a gift."
"i want the g7x so baddddddd" she whined animatedly before lighting up with a thought, "do you have it on you!??"
"uhhh not right now but it's charging in my room." you said with a soft sigh feeling her disappointment. "but i can get it later—"
"REALLY??" she squealed happily.
Miles raised his eyebrow mid bite and tipped towards you both. "what are you guys screaming about??"
"camera." you both said in unison.
"you have a camera?" his finger pointed to you.
"not right nowww." you explained.
"HER PICTURES ARE SO CUTE" Naomi interrupted, shoving your instagram page in his face. his eyebrows softly raised as his hand slowly gravitated towards Naomi's phone.
he stared and snooped for a good minute.
longest minute of your life.
his lips slowly formed a big smile, still not looking up yet.
"these are niceeeee" he said softly. "really nice." he repeated, softly, almost to himself.
eventually someone suggested the pool, the answer was immediate.
"YES."
the group started moving almost instantly, but you hung back, not because you wanted to.
your phone buzzed.
Mom: alive?
You smiled.
You: yes :)
Mom: did you survive
You: shockingly yes
Mom: friends???
You: i think so actually
Three dots appeared immediately.
Mom: OH MY GOD
You laughed.
You: don't make it weird
Mom: too late
You: mom.
Mom: IM PROUD OF YOU
You were so distracted typing that you didn't realize the group had disappeared around the corner.
"Everything okay?"
You looked up.
Miles.
"Oh."
"okay—that's twice now."
"what?"
"you saying 'oh' when you see me. im starting to think you don't want me around you." he teased with a playful pout.
"no its not—"
"it definitely is."
He slowed his pace until he was walking beside you in unison. "you good?"
"yeah."
"sure?"
you nodded reassuringly. "just texting my mom."
"cute."
you laughed softly. "she wanted updates."
for a moment none of you said anything.
then,
"you know how to swim?"
you looked over. "enough to survive."
He blinked.
"what does that— either yes or no."
"It means if i get thrown into the pool i probably wont die."
"probably?"
"no promises."
He looked horrified.
"That's concerning." he said looking genuinely baffled. "that's a vital survival skill, you cant just halfass it! you never know!" He walked with his hands on his hips now, lecture ready. "but no worries, i was a lifeguard."
you looked over. "really?"
"mhm." he said proudly. "even saved a kid once. im a hero." he beamed.
you giggled lightly. "did you have to give cpr?"
"i mean—yeah, you HAVE to be cpr certified for any lifeguard job."
"hm. what else do you do?" you asked, your phone forgotten in your hand.
"i can do flips." he said, as if he was waiting for the opportunity to bring it up.
"oh brother."
"im serious. i can do a handstand underwater and everything!"
He pointed at you. "i could teach you."
you blinked.
"i'm a great teacher. you'll be in good hands."
you rolled your eyes. "the ego is insane."
"not ego, its confidence, and the confidence is very much earned, thank you." he sassed.
"sure."
"it is."
"sure."
"it is."
you laughed.
again.
The pool deck was chaos, music blasted from overhead speakers, kids ran through puddles, people claimed lounge chairs even though nobody owned them.
The boys immediately launched themselves into the water. no discussion.
splash.
chicken fights, someone nearly went blind from chlorine, the boys choking on water one too many times.
meanwhile— you and Naomi occupied two lounge chairs near the edge of the pool.
"your tan lines are insane."
she looked down proudly. "i work very hard for these." her torso bent to the side getting something out of her tote bag, a bottle of tanning oil. "THEEEE holy grail."
"those really work?"
"you see the credentials!" she said displaying her tan lines again. "you can use some girl, no problem."
"really?—you sure."
"yes of course! turn around ill get your back" she said carelessly positioning herself, beginning to lather the warm oil on her hands.
"this friendship is moving so fast." you chuckled.
"yes. i love it." Naomi said, her chin briefly resting on your shoulder affectionately before rubbing the oil on every crevice of your back for the most crisp tan lines and the afternoon settled around you two easily.
music, sunshine, and conversations.
you talked about college, music, clothes. just life.
Naomi told stories about cruise culture like an anthropologist documenting rare species.
"the cruise flirting is insane."
you laughed. "really?"
every once in a while you caught Miles looking over. not staring, just looking, sometimes he'd smile or do an over excited wave before getting slammed into the pool by one of his friends or yell something across the water.
the strange thing was it didn't feel awkward, nothing today had.
Earlier this morning these people had been strangers, now Naomi was your soul sister.
"a guy did like 20 pull ups on a random bar for my number yesterday." she chuckled out.
"did you give it to him??" you asked as you rubbed the remaining oil on your chest and legs.
"nah."
you both erupted in laughter.

the ocean was quiet at this hour.
not empty—never empty, but softened, like the world hadn’t fully decided to wake up yet. the waves moved in a slow soft rhythm in view of your balcony catching the morning light in thin strips of gold that shimmered and disappeared just as quickly as they came.
you’ve been out here since 8:30
now it was almost noon
your book was already halfway through its fourth chapter, pages slightly warm from the sunlight kissing the pages. breakfast had been served hours ago—6:30 sharp, your mom insisted on sleeping in but you couldn’t resist getting some peace and quiet with the sunrise before the staff started blasting a playlist through the speakers again.
you loved mornings like this. quiet ones. ones where nobody expected anything from you.
inside, the suite still, air conditioning humming softly, curtains shifting whenever the ship moved. but you stayed outside anyway, legs tucked beneath you reading with your hair pulled into what was supposed to be a high pony but slowly fallen from the friction of your head on the chair, thoughts far away from anything loud.
that’s how your mom found you.
“Girl.” she said, stepping into the balcony with an easy smile, sunglasses perched on her head, “you’ve been reading out here all morning, you okay?”
“oh—yeah.” you said softly
she leaned on the railing nearest to you, peeking at the cover like she was genuinely curious, even if she wasn’t going to read it. “mmm-hmm,” she hummed glancing back at the water then back at you with a fond smile. “Your dad and I are gonna head out in a bit,” she said “little excursion thing. probably gonna get a drink or two …or three.”
you smirked softly into the pages and gave a small nod, as a moment too long passed without her saying anything you looked up to see her look at you with a soft yet concerned smile.
"and you," she began, pointing slightly at your book " are not staying locked up in here the whole time."
"I'm not "locked up" I'm just, relaxing." you countered softly.
"Sweetie, when's the last time you've actually interacted with people your age hm?" She said now joining you in a seat on the balcony "I didn't book this whole cruise just for you to turn into a decorative plant." she said "I want you out there. having fun. meeting people."
a soft wrinkle between your eyebrows formed "I have people."
"Who?" she asked immediately leaning closer, intrigued.
"...people."
She squinted at you "That's not a person."
You sighed softly, faintly embarrassed because if it wasn't for your strong academic career and involvement in your hobbies you'd probably be viewed as a child who reads romance novels all day giggling to herself eating tubs of ice cream in a week.
She softened a little then, her voice shifting.
"listen," she began "when I was your age, I had boys lining up to even talk to me. And you—" she tapped your cheek lightly "you got it from me. you're gorgeous! you just act like you don't know it."
"Momm.."
"I'm serious," she smiled. "Find yourself a little fling, a boyfriend. some gal pals. something—literally anything. you're about to be a senior, After this, life moves fast."
You looked down at your book again fingers tracing the edge of the page that you've re-read four times to avoid eye contact. "I don't really..do all that."
There was a pause after that—heavier, quieter
Then she added, "I just want you to be okay. When you leave for college. when you're not right down the hall anymore."
You glanced up at her because you knew once she started mentioning anything about school or future-wise things she got emotional. You chuckled softly scooting to her chair now sitting in her lap like you were still 6 years old. "I'm still here you know."
She gently cradled your head against her chest, her thumb grazing your cheekbone and temple repeatedly "I know," she smiled, but it wobbled a little at the edges." come on. go get ready. I'm taking you somewhere."
you showered slowly, letting the warm water blur your thoughts until they didn't feel so sharp anymore. when you stepped out, the mirror fogged slightly as you wrapped yourself in a towel and stood there for a moment, just staring at your reflection like a blank canvas mentally sorting through your luggage for an outfit.
your hair was already a statement of its own—boho french curl braids, small and detailed, falling perfectly in soft layered swirls and ringlets. Your skin was warm toned and glowing from the trip already, faint tan lines beginning to settle in like proof of every hour you'd spent near the sun.
you pulled on your bikini first—simple white clean against your skin—then layered an off shoulder cropped top over it. soft fabric, breathable in this tropical weather. beige linen shorts followed. you kept your jewelry simple but intentional—gold bangles that made that satisfying clicking when you moved.
your makeup was light, a slightly brighter concealer under your eyes soft sweep of blush across your cheeks and the tip of your nose, enough to feel dolled up, but not too much to give you insane face dysmorphia when you take it off later.
and when you were finally done you looked up and paused.
Okay.
you looked beautiful.
as you stepped out of the bathroom awkwardly, knowing that your mom was probably perched up on the bed waiting for you, she saw a mythical creature of sorts.
"okayyyy," she said, pointing at you like she'd just won something. "that's my daughter."
"stop." you whispered, but your smile gave it away
"okay okay." she said her hands lifted dismissively, she got up, grabbed her bag and room key card. "come on beautiful."
you rolled your eyes but followed her out.
The ship was much louder now. people were awake. music drifted faintly from somewhere you couldn't see yet. laughter echoed off polished floors and opened decks. everything felt bigger than your room had.
your mom walked beside you, chatting easily pointing out random things like she'd been here a hundred times.
"and over there is the pool," she said. "Which you're going to use. Don't look at me like that."
"I wasn't—"
"you were."
You didn't argue further.
instead, you just followed her through corridors that smelled like saltwater and sunscreen and whipped cream.
Eventually, she slowed.
a set of wide glass doors came into view.
above them, neon lettering glowed softly:
TEEN CLUB/ ARCADE
your stomach shifted slightly.
"oh—" you said quietly.
your mom smiled like she'd been waiting for that reaction.
"yeah," she said. "this is you"
"it's... a lot" you admitted.
"lottttt of opportunity!" she sang pinching your side before turning to you fully her soft hands cupping the sides of your arms. "Listen, I'm not gonna drag you in there, or stand over you. I just want you to try."
you looked at the doors again. voices, movement. sound.
"just one hour." she said gently, the tone you couldn't say no to. "if you hate it, text me. I'll come get you."
You hesitated "..alright."
Her face lit up instantly.
"that's my girl," she said squeezing you softly before letting go. "Go on."
You took a breath and stepped inside the shift was immediate. cool air, bright lights. music low but constant. the clicking of arcade buttons and the soft hum of conversations overlapping like waves.
It wasn't overwhelming but it was loud. you stood just inside the entrance for a second too long, and slowly walked in.
your eyes awkwardly scanned for an untaken seat before sitting down at a nearby couch next to an outlet to charge your phone that was on 2% because you suck at charging your phone.
maybe you’d stay an hour like promised, get a slushie, sit in a corner for a little, then disappear quietly back to your suite and order room service ice cream.
a solid plan.
unfortunately, the universe had other plans.
“Hey—this seat taken?”
you looked up. A boy standing next to the couch he looked about your age—maybe older with a deck of cards curved in his hand soft curls that were slightly frizzy from all of the humidity. a plain white wife beater clung to his toned frame followed with a pair of plain light pink swim trunks.
you blinked.
“Oh.”
great job. excellent response.
he smiled a little
“oh—yeah. sorry.”
he chuckled and shook his head
“doesn’t look taken to me.” he reasoned
that’s not what you meant..
“no I mean— yeah.. you can—sit here.” you fumbled out
he let out a boyish giggle before he dropped into the seat with an easy familiarity that somehow didn’t feel intrusive.
“Soooo” he sighed getting comfortable his legs spread comfortably next to yours, but still giving you space. “haven’t seen you around yet, you just board?”
“no, I just haven’t been here.”
“whatttt?” he said dramatically “you’ve been missing out then. where’ve you been?!”
“the pool.” you lied.
“Ah—dang. really??,he said leaning his elbows on his knees leaning a bit closer to you, trying to see if he memorized your face. "I haven’t seen you.”
a soft moment of silence fell between you two before he spoke up again.
“So. now that you’re here, you can join us!” he said like some cheerful army recruiter. “if you want—no pressure of course.” he added quickly. “but if you don’t—you’ll miss out. definitely. seriously.” His wide, almost begging eyes locked onto yours before his face lit up again
“oh sorry—I'm Miles.” He said extending his hand out to yours.
very respectful.
you shook his hand reciting your name like how you imagined a scenario like this 2 weeks ago.
“Alright.” He said clapping his hand once firmly.
“the crew is over there—“ he said pointing briefly to a packed table of teens. “I was whooping their ass in uno.” he added before looking around like the FBI was looking for him and leaning closer to you he smelled like the pina colada of your dreams mixed with soft sandalwood.
“between you and me. they suck. like they really, really suck. I’ve been playing them for like an hour now—”
“miles who are you talking to??!!” A voice rang through the crowd.
he scoffed “see? sore losers.” he boasted pointing at them with his thumb before echoing back “my new friend.”
and before you knew it much more than an hour went by.
