If anyone is looking for something to watch on netflix, i have a recommendation for you: Anne With An E. It is a wholesome, heartwarming show with beautiful cinematography, interesting and complex characters and most importantly full of important messages. Issues discussed in Anne With An E include racism, sexism, being an orphan, self-love, beauty standards, lgbtq+ community just to name a few. Shows like AWAE are very rare today and it easily became one of my favorite tv shows ever. Do yourself a favor and check it out. You’ll soon fall in love with Anne and her story shared with many different, amazing characters.

Sierra Burgess is a Loser

Like…I was so happy when I saw Shannon Purser as Sierra on Netflix. I didn’t even watch the trailer I just jumpes straight into watching the movie. But the longer I watched the more concerns I had and by the end of it the movie was cringey, manipulative and gross.

Let’s get into it.

Sierra is supposed to be a loser because - according to the show - she not “pretty”, she’s fat, she’s smart and a part of the school band. I mean, back in the day those were tropes used as things that described unpopular kids but today, in 2018, can you guys find some OTHER way to describe what a loser would be?

I mean we can retitle it as “Sierra Burgess is Manipulative”, “Sierra Burgess is a Catfisher”, “Sierra Burgess is a Bully”, “Sierra Burgess is a horrible, no good, self-absorbed friend” - if that’s what they were referring to when they described her as a loser, then YES - Sierra Burgess IS a loser.

Secondly, in what world does a catfishing, manipulative, self-absorbed, bully who kissed a guy without his consent end up with the happy ending, forgiven by her friends AND gets the guy?

Are we supposed to feel sorry for her because she’s fat? Are her actions excusable because she has low self-esteem?

Like, no.

THEN if all this wasn’t enough she PRETENDS TO BE DEAF because she didn’t want Jamey to recognize her voice - gross - but somehow thought it was A-Okay that Veronica went on the date with Jamey THEN was upset with Veronica when Jamey (who believed he was developing this relationship with Veronica) kisses Veronica.

Also, I find it SO unbelievable that a guy, who has a deaf brother that he loves so much and is more in tuned with the struggles and bullying his brother experiences had NO problem with the fact that Sierra pretended to be DEAF like it was funny.

-Let’s not forget that this guy was made a fool of by Sierra who we’re supposed to relate to as the nice girl.

–If that’s not enough, what self-respecting female would ever accept a backhanded “compliment” from a guy that Sierra accepted from Jamey? ???

—“You’re not everybody’s type, but you’re my type.”

—-I mean, Jamey, if your type is self-absorbed, manipulative, catfishing, liars who bullies and humiliates people she calls her friend - then yeah, go for Sierra.

Veronica, Dan and Jamey deserved WAY better than Sierra.

Why Sierra Burgess is not really a good person and Veronica is:

Here we go

1- The most satisfying thing in the movie is watching the development of Veronica’s caracter. You understand after a while why she acts the way she does, and see her grow as a person because of her friendship with Sierra, and it’s amazing.

2- After building a solid and true friendship with Veronica, Sierra betrayes her in a very imature and pointless way. SHE BLAMED HER FOR THE CONSEQUENCE OF SOMETHING SHE CREATED. She basically did that to hurt Veronica. Even after Veronica begin so open with her. This was literally something a villain would do.

3- Veronica spends most part of the movie helping Sierra and Jamey’s relationship, but the same thing doesn’t happen to Veronica. Sierra did nothing to help her friend in the situation she was, she knew Spence was using Veronica and he was also not a good person, but nothing was done and Veronica got hurt, again.

4- At the end Veronica is the one that goes over Jamey’s house to fix things by herself, AS IF SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAUSED THE WHOLE SITUATION. Even though she didn’t heard one single “I am sorry” from Sierra she defended her to Jamey saying a lot of nice things apparently.

5- At the end, Sierra shows up with Jamey, happy, and Veronica is alone talking to her two other horrible friends and their dates, and she sees Sierra, STILL WITHOUT HEARING A SINGLE I AM SORRY FOR SCREWING UP, SHE FORGIVES HER!!!!! Just by looking. Literally if this is not an angel I don’t know what it is. So pure.
