Thinking about a point I made in this analysis where I mentioned how in season 4, when El says people think she’s a monster, Mike’s response was “Well they just don’t know you.”

Compared to in season 1 where he immediately denies that and says “No El you’re not the monster. You saved me!” and then he hugs her.

You could argue that yeah maybe he wasn’t as freaked out because yk she literally saved him from dying, but the two scenarios are…almost identical?

Someone is being bullied and then El uses force/violence as to teach the bully a lesson, and Mike is there to witness it. The only difference is that the ‘someone’ in season 4 happens to be El herself.

I mean for crying out loud Mike literally saw her break Troy’s arm (and send James flying), the same way he watched her break Angela’s nose, so what’s the problem? What justified El’s actions in season 1 but not season 4?

Why was he so freaked out in season 4 when he’s witnessed this exact same situation before.

This is further proof that back in season 1, most of Mike’s ‘feelings’ towards El stemmed from admiration, and from the fact that she was literally saving him and his friends, therefore she had a ‘noble’ goal. But the minute she attacked first, even if the situation totally called for it, he completely switched up because he could no longer see her as this pure, noble, selfless superhero he built her up to be.

“I love you on your good days I love you on your bad days,”

Liar.

This is not to say that Mike is a horrible person who is selfish or whatever. If anything, I used to really dislike him post season 2 but now he’s my favourite character because I’m learning to look into why he acts the way he does. It is undeniable that his relationship with El has worsened him as a character, he’s always been bratty since season 1 but never to the point of actually harming his relationships with his friends. I mean, him dating El has quite literally worsened his relationship with her too.

All I’m trying to say is that Mike needs to realise that him putting El on a pedestal is super unfair, and that he himself needs to grow out of this relationship and figure out what he wants for himself now that he’s realising that his feelings were greatly motivated by admiration and worship (and also Lucas and Nancy drilling him for ‘having a crush’ on a girl he just met).

I imagined some context for that ElMike scene in the teaser, and I loved reading everyone’s theories the last couple of days so I wanted to share my own version of it.

In conclusion, once again, El's personal arc is about family more than romance and her relationship with Hopper seems to be what the writers are focusing on. Will's arc is about romantic love and his feelings for Mike. This kinda spells out how the ending of the love triangle, don't you think? Why would the writers focus on those two pairings in the last season of the show if Mike and El are supposed to be this endgame power couple? Why did Mike promise to be a team and to kill Vecna with his best friend who's secretely in love with him instead of his superhero girlfriend? Where exactly is the supposed "main couple of the show"?
