If my character were an angel, what would they be guardian over?
Battlefields Desecrated
"A battlefield.” The water deity flicked the blood from his fingers and started towards the old faun, only to pause and stare at him as if he did not understand. “A battlefield. Is that the name you give to the slaughter of trees, the carnage of polluted waters, the death, the exile of your kind, your centaurs, your dwarves, your talking animals—”
He looked again at the body. “Terrible. Viciousness.” For a moment he almost seemed repentant, but he broke with a horrible laugh. “If only I had been so sooner. When I could have saved them all.” Black eyes riveted to the faun. “Do you mourn the human?”
Girbius found himself thinking back to the Telmarine invasion, when he himself was forced to flee deep into the Narnian wilderness. So many dear friends lost, so many good trees cut down...and so many rivers and streams mistreated. There was hardly a Narnian soul back then who wasn't visited by grief, and the old faun recognized the river god's pain for what it was. "I do not call that time a 'battle'. There are no words bad enough for what it was."
Lowering his gaze briefly to the human who had met an untimely end, Girbius shook his head. "And did his death appease you? Did it return the ones you've lost to your embrace?" He looked up at the river god once more. "Vengeance begets nothing but a vicious cycle of further vengeance. I do mourn the human. And I grieve the wrongs done to you. And to me. And to all of us."

He glanced down at the body before lifting his eyes.
"Do you stare because you do not know death?"
Girbius rested his hand on the pommel of his sword, but did not draw it. His eyes were solemn and sad, but there was a firmness to the set of his jaw that made his opinion of this deed quite clear. "No. I stare because it is unusual to witness such terrible viciousness and anger outside of the battlefield. Why have you done this thing?"
Howdy Ma'am.
Liz: *she looks up from her book and pushes her specs up the bridge of her nose* Hello… Can I help you? *smiles*
"Well… well look now. I never said that you were a liar or a bit adrift…… but it did cross my mind," Joe sweetly replied. He didn’t want her to think of his as rude.
When she laughed in return, his eyes narrowed. It was as though someone had told a joke that he didn’t understand…. or that he was about to find himself being made the center of a joke.
"Now, what is that… that supposed to mean?" He questioned. The curly haired rancher turned to see what looked like a horse…. but it wasn’t a horse.
"What in creation…" he stammered as the creature began to speak. His hand had instinctively fallen to his gun and he was watching the woman’s reaction for a cue- he didn’t want to do something rash…. and he certainly didn’t want to die.
"You…. you speak?" Joe stammered in amazement, one hand pointed in awe at the creature and his other hand, having slipped off his gun, came to rest on his hip.
He began to laugh. “You know something Miss? That is a down right funny joke. Where did you find this outrageous costume? I mean…. you got me.”
"Hi, Girbius, nice to meet yah," Joe added.
Joe questioned with his head cocked to the side,”A faun?”
His eyes widened and he went along with the joke with a serious tone, “right. Right. Why didn’t I see it before. He’s a faun! Yes, of course…. a faun.”
Then he began to roar with laughter, “you really had me believing that I walked into a new country.”

Girbius, his hand still raised in a greeting wave and a 'hello' dying on his lips at the sight of the man's strange clothes, stopped short. His hand sort of wilted before he lowered his arm to his side. Something was a little bit 'off' here.
"I speak as well as you do, young man..." Girbius said mildly, his eyes going to the strange device the man had belted to his waist. He guessed that it was a weapon of some sort, and going by the man's clothes and his startled reaction, he was justified in thinking that Girbius might pose a threat. If this was a human from that other world, there was no telling how well he would handle it.
Then the man began to laugh, and though his words were quite rude, Girbius did not take it personally. He saw Elizabeth Lockheart sitting there looking rather pained, and he found himself fighting back a chuckle of his own. Really, this wasn't funny...
And this stranger wouldn't be amused when he realized that Girbius was not a human in costume, but what his world would call a mythical creature. Mindful of this, Girbius made his approach, but slowly. As he drew nearer, it should be obvious that his legs were entirely the wrong shape to be human; too spindly, especially from the hocks down. Did humans even have hocks? Girbius didn't think so. Either way, he stopped about twenty feet away from the man and folded his arms. There should be no mistaking it now. His legs were those of a billy goat, and he scuffed one hoof on the ground in a show of very mild annoyance.
"Girbius; General of the Narnian Army; faun, physician, and scholar. At your service. Please, stop laughing. It's terribly impolite."

"General Girbius. How have you been? It feels like so long since we last saw one another, doesn't it?"
His face brightening in joyful recognition, Girbius bowed and kissed the young queen’s hand. “Ah, most wondrous Majesty! Indeed it does. I am well, thank you. And yourself?”
"I’m very well, thank you." She replied brightly, a smile on her fill lips. "What brings you to this part of the castle today? Do you need Peter or Edmund?"
"Actually, I was on my way out," he said, still smiling. "I was just dropping off some papers. Their Majesties were busy, so I wasn't long."
There was a rustling, flapping sound, and a small hawk landed on one of Girbius's horns. They displayed his age, nearly coiling in a ram-like spiral, but they were still small. He chuckled and commented, "Someone seems to have forgotten what 'wait outside' means."
Celeacris
Headcanon: Girbius has a great deal of respect for Celeacris, though he does think she’s a bit of a hothead. He knows it has value, though; she is never unfair about it, and it inspires respect among the recruits.
"General Girbius. How have you been? It feels like so long since we last saw one another, doesn't it?"
His face brightening in joyful recognition, Girbius bowed and kissed the young queen’s hand. “Ah, most wondrous Majesty! Indeed it does. I am well, thank you. And yourself?”
"Girbius!" The girl gasped, stunned. "I'm sure you don't remember me. They called me Alesea once, a very long time ago. But perhaps you remember my dear friend, Adeodatus."
The old faun turned to face who had spoken, his expression mild and quizzical, as if he knew that he knew this girl, but it had been a while. “Yes?”
When the girl identified herself, though, memories came flooding back, and when she mentioned Adeodatus he knew exactly who was addressing him. “Why, certainly I remember you.” He smiled, not mentioning that he knew the sadness of her back-story; until now, he thought she still slumbered under that spell! He bowed slightly at the waist, kissing her hand. “It does an old faun’s heart good to see you looking well.”
Do you know about World War II? -Matty
'World war'… *Girbius frowns as he contemplates that idea* A war that encompasses an entire world sounds truly horrifying, youngster. And there were two of those?
What do you dislike about your job?
Girbius: War. The battles have been few and far between, thankfully. But it isn’t just the fighting. It’s the aftermath, the broken families, the inevitable task of picking up the pieces…trying to put them together again. They never quite fit together the same way as before.
Do you prefer green or red grapes?
Girbius: I enjoy both kinds. Though I do prefer the red over the green at times.

Girbius: No, I don’t believe anyone ever has, until now. *smiles, taking it as a compliment* Thank you. ^^

Did you lose any body parts in the war? -Matty
Girbius: No. As you can see, I am still in one piece. *the old faun holds his arms out as if to demonstrate, smiling ruefully, then lowers his arms again* If one is in a battle, one must count on being wounded in some way, but I was fortunate enough to be able to keep my limbs.
What do you think my character's irrational fears are?
