What I've been thinking about recently is how i think Eric is left socially alone when he becomes an adult.
To start I imagine his friendships to be a certain way; that he's not in any specific group, he's just a floater of a person who is typically invited through someone else and kept around because he is a mutual good time.. but that's as good as it gets
As a teenager or freshman it wasn't so bad since around that time people DID consider him a more immediate friend but as people found better they’d naturally wean off of him as being someone they'd go out of their way to see.
The main relationships he's had that has impacted him or been directly relevant to him where he isn't just someone floating around has been Sven (My oc) and Jimmy but the common denominator is that even though he was “important” to them they both still left him abruptly and moved on supposedly fine.
With Sven their relationship never was explicitly stated to be broken off but the fight they had and vibes afterward kind of just felt like the consensus was that neither of them wanted to date or see each other anymore (Eric assumed Sven hated him and vice versa which prevented them from reaching out)
and Sven took way worse to the separation but didn't directly harass Eric afterward. Sven's presence haunted Eric’s psyche as Eric was hyper-paranoid about Sven's previous violent threats he'd make when emotional or angry and Eric also saw him as more than capable of coming to his house to bother him and his parents. Sven never did anything but that's not to say he didn't think about it alot, he would’ve done worse so long as it made such a traumatizing impact to Eric but the only thing he thinks stopped him was that his life was already in such a shit mess and he rescheduled any revenge he could take as being better done later and when time came he was stable enough to, he had better stuff going for him and moved on.
Him and Sven's whole relationship is complicated but that's OC x canon stuff and there's much more to explain outside of that little snippet that's not Important for what I'm explaining rn
So carrying on, he becomes friends with Jimmy a bit afterwards and their relationship is also bad and complicated but Jimmy's attention is more malicious. Whats worse is Jimmy is also with Eric in person so it comes with more pressure and opportunities to do bad things to him directly or influence him. I think Jimmy sees Eric as more of an outlet for things or some sort of person to conquer but his image of Eric is inaccurate and adds to the frustration of being friends with Eric from the start, which is also what keeps Jimmy intrigued. But the point is Jimmy also leaves Eric because eventually when curiosity has run its course Eric has no factors that make him “keepable” (plus Jimmy has to focus on finding his idol Johnny)
To describe it Eric is like just a transition person. Friends meet him and move on to someone better, people who have loved him don't stay and people who hurt him move on without any sort of attachment to him. He has unique factors to himself someone could like but the chances of standing out at this age is impossible. His suffering isn't special enough to make him valuable to hate and any other emotions aren't enough to make him good to keep around passively, neither does he have any physical use for favors like driving for example.
I don't think Eric even realizes he's lonely. I think he keeps to himself as that is just an aspect of his personality but the people he's gotten roped in with assume things for him based off of that, like he's scared or fragile and what sucks is that's what they like about him and its not even accurate.
He has the kind of loneliness where he doesn't realize it until he needs to talk about something serious between someone he's seeing and then realizes the only person he can talk to about them would be that person.
He chooses to vent through elaborate texts and lengthy dramatic blogs in a way that's incomprehensible so everything he says that is a personal cry for help just kind of reads off as a stylized persona ramble that isn't taken seriously. There's atleast a positive to never being transparent or direct online and its that people can choose to see it as deeper than it might be and that will give him some value since it means higher chance to be misinterpreted as better than he is.
When hes an adult and has to focus on actually living life like a proper person he is sort of left with nothing. His friendships and what hes been through up to this point don't carry over into “ the real world “ so there's no point even dwelling. He’s disposable and people don't think about him at all afterward because what is there to think about? To everyone who's gotten to know him he's just a good kid with “not enough” issues, so he’ll live and nothing else matters.
