Fall Anime 2017 Blog 10/7/17
Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening (wherever you are), SaigoGetsuga here and as promised I will give you my thoughts on the three anime I would discuss this season: Recovery of an MMO Junkie, Love Live Sunshine (Season 2) and Black Clover. Now this is my first-ever blog so if I am doing things incorrectly and have any pointers to help me please feel free to let me know (but please donāt straight-up flame me).
Letās begin with Recovery of an MMO Junkie.
This anime is about a 30-year old female named Moriko Morioka who was recently unemployed and shows that she chose to be a NEET (someone who chooses not to pursue employment and is not in education), she even states it in her introduction. Now as first episodes go in terms of introducing characters go, it did a good job of introducing our main female and her interactions going into the new game she found after her previous one terminated service. The story for now may not lend itself to the title of the show but itās only the first episode so weāll see and Iām going to try not to spoil too much. The episode then goes forward to Christmas time and we see that the friendship between Moriko and Lily has progressed greatly by hanging out alone in game to exchange Christmas gifts and this was a great scene.
In my opinion, I was drawn to this show because of my background as a gamer and I have a seen one other MMO-game related anime (āAnd You Thought There Is Never A Girl Online?ā) and thankfully Moriko knows the difference between the game world and the real world so there is no sense of recovery... for now though because thinking about the title... play too long and one may lose a sense of reality. I donāt have much to say without spoiling and I may post an update when FUNimation does their SimulDub.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this show for those that enjoy a slice-of-life show with a hint of romance mixed in. I would rank this 8/10 of must watch. Recovery of an MMO Junkie streams on Crunchyroll every Friday with a SimulDub on FUNimation coming soon.
Next, Love Live Sunshine Season 2
If you are unfamiliar with Love Live... I would definitely recommend the series as a whole (including the original) this show picks up directly after the events of Season 1 of Love Live Sunshine. We catch up with the school idols, Aqours, at the start of the second term of their school year (Mari calls it second season which I felt was a hilarious nod to the audience)
We find that the girls did not get past the competition they participated in Season 1 (when they performedĀ āMIRAI TICKETā) and learn that a new Love Live will be taking place in the near-future and they are preparing for a school open house to help find prospective students to help save their school from closing down (similar situation to the original Love Live series). Again, as first episodes go, it does a good job setting up the situations that the girls will be encountering, getting over the frustration of loss and how to improve and how to handle unexpected situations (one such deal happens in this episode but I wonāt spoil it). The animation is handled by Sunrise, who has worked on the whole Love Live series (theyāre also the same studio that handled all the Gundam series), and their animation is still really good. The original cast of season 1 returns to reprise their characters and sound like they should. I look forward to seeing how this show progresses.
Again, if you havenāt seen season 1 of Love Live Sunshine, definitely watch it before watching this show. Otherwise if you are a big fan of the Love Live series, Iād definitely give this show a 10/10 ranking of must watch. Love Live Sunshine season 2 streams every Saturday on Crunchyroll and FUNimation will stream a SimulDub at a later date.Ā
Finally, I end with Black Clover
I had actually never heard of the original manga (I mostly hear these shows from anime news sites and social media in terms of hype). And after watching the first episode of Black Clover I noticed many similarities to other Shonen anime tropes as well as call-backs to other shows (in my opinion). The show follows two characters, Asta (right) and Yuno (left) and their quest to become known as the Wizard King, the strongest wizard in the land. We begin by learning that while Yuno has been shown to have the best aptitude in terms of magic-wielding while Asta has no aptitude for magic but he will not give up his dream to become the Wizard King (very similar to Naruto in his dream to become the Hokage).Ā
After watching the first episode, I noticed that the voice of Asta was becoming a reason plenty of people have turned away from this show (obnoxious-sounding and doesnāt know how to dial down the volume), and I feel that is very unfair to judge the show based on one character. The action in this show looks like itāll be really good (especially what it previews for the next episode).Ā Though it holds some cliche elements similar to other Shonen anime (*cough* Naruto) I am very interested in seeing how it differs. Iād rank this show with a 7/10 of must watch, if you can try to get through Astaās voice.Ā
Black Clover streams on Crunchyroll every Tuesday and FUNimation will stream a SimulDub at a later date.
I apologize for how long this post was but I wanted to try my hand of voicing my opinion on these shows (though it looks short, I may post separate entries for each show). I thank you if you have read through this whole post I may try to post my thoughts on No Game No Life Zero on Sunday night or Monday night.
Thank you for reading. Please look forward to my future posts as I try to have these be more review-like for these shows.
