As the night went on and slowly but steadily, the reception began to die down, there was one person left that had yet to give their gift to the newly wedded brides, Aiko Shinomiya looked around the venue and smiled to herself, holding her IPad close to her chest and making one last final check before saving her data and shutting the device off. Another beautiful wedding and another job well done, this was by far her best and most expensive work and the young android learned a lot but ultimately she had fun helping Lola and Reika plan their wedding.
Plus, seeing A.R.K in a suit and being on his upmost best behavior probably never seen before since his creation was extremely funny and she couldn’t wait to see Big Brother Mal and Big Sister A.D.A’s faces when she shows them the video she had took during his speech.
Feeling a tug on her dress, she looked down to see Seizou in his little suit blankly looking up at her, seeing that he had his sister’s attention, he held up a beautifully crafted photobook up to her.
“Ah, thanks Sei-kun! You backed up the photos to put them on the website for later, right?” She asked as she took the book from him.
“Affirmative, Seizou has saved the photos he has taken to his photo gallery, he will begin to upload them to the website as soon as he returns home.” The boy nodded, causing Aiko to smile and pat his head.
“Good! Okay Sei, you’re off duty now! Good job and go get yourself a slice of cake, oh, and get me one too!” Aiko called back as she began to advance towards the couple, Seizou dutifully nodded and made his own beeline towards the dessert table.
“Mrs. Aichi! Mrs. Takahashi!” The young girl called out to them, beaming brightly. “Congratulations on your marriage! I’m so so happy for you two! The ceremony was absolutely beautiful and I hope you two are enjoying the reception!”
Aiko couldn’t help but preen as the couple praised her for her hard work and dedication to give them their dream wedding, “Ah, that makes me so happy to hear! We at Amor Aeturnus pride ourselves on giving our clients the dream wedding they deserve at a fair price, er, well, as fair as a wedding as expensive as this gets, haha.” She laughed sheepishly.
“If you two could be so kind, though you don’t have to do it right now obviously, I would really love it if you could answer my survey regarding your experience with us and perhaps put in a good word? Believe it or not, we’re still a starting business so we need all the help we can get to put ourselves out there, I sent the link to the survey to your phones, again, you don’t have to answer right now but it would really help me out to do more stuff like this.”
After selling her pitch, Aiko handed over the gifts she held in her hands to them. “Not to make this entirely about business, we got you gifts! We do this with all our clients to show our gratitude so we hope you like it!”
Opening the gifts revealed two items, the first one being…
…The beautiful gem covered photo album.
“All of your wedding photos are in this one album, perfect condition and in high quality for whenever you want to look back on the happiest day of your life!”
The second item revealed to be…
…A…spider vial?
Aiko’s eyes widen as Lola and Reika confusedly looked at the odd looking item, she knew only one person was responsible and she was so going to rat him out to Malphas and A.D.A for this, clearing her throat, she tried to save face. “U-uh, oh that! It’s…a special brand of liquor! Curtesy of our very own…pastor,” her eyebrow twitched at the word, “it’s his way of congratulating you two for the marriage and thank you both of choosing him to officiate your wedding so if you have any questions or inquiries, any at all, please direct them to him, I’m sure he will be happy to answer every single one.”
Bowing her head to them, Aiko gave them one last smile and held out her hand, in it was a business. “Again, beautiful wedding you two, I hope your marriage lasts forever and should you two have anyone in need for our services in either matchmaking, wedding planning, or both, please give us a call.”
“Aiko is an absolute cutie.” Reika mentioned as she stared down at the purple business card in her fingers. “I’m glad we hired her.”
“I know right? I had some reservations given how young she is but Kaiji swore she would plan your perfect wedding.” Lola laughed. “He was right everything went perfectly all to her. Honestly I’m impressed so young and already running a successful business. I respect it.”
“We should wire her a bonus for doing such a good job.” Reika suggested before she turned to stare at the other item in her hand. A certain spidery vial. “Now what do you think about this little item?”
“That it looks suspicious as fuck.”
“Well you’re not wrong.” Reika lifted the bottle up to the light to get a better view of the liquid inside. “But despite the vial’s appearance I don’t think it’s anything dangerous to us.”
“You sure? Because despite how well he behaved during the ceremony I’m pretty sure our “pastor” is wanted both by cops and the criminal underground.” Lola pulled out her phone to check something real quick. “Yeah no he’s wanted for nine million dollars on that old Dead Pool.”
“Huh…so wanna test it out? Not here at least but in the comfort of our hotel room. Because I’m leaning towards this being some sort of mind altering drug than nothing that’s going to kill us.”
“Fuck it why not? Wouldn’t be first substance we‘ve done together.”
The reception was reaching its peak, everywhere from the eye can see people were enjoying themselves, laughing, dancing, and making merry as they celebrated the union between the brides, Lola and Reika, congratulating the two women on their marriage and beautiful ceremony.
Among these guests was the famous cosplayer and internet influencer, Kaiji Sano, wearing a gorgeous purple gown signaling his place as part of Reika’s wedding party, something that he was honored to be part of when Reika asked him to be one of her bridesmaids, he readily agreed of course and he was so happy to see two of his closest friends get married.
Even now as he watched the newlyweds dance together and fawn over each other, he had a smile on his face, his own spouse was somewhere getting another piece of cake so Kaiji took the opportunity to share his best wishes and give his gifts to the happy couple.
“Congratulations ladies, what a beautiful ceremony, must have been absolutely worth every penny.” Kaiji grinned as he hugged both girls, nodding approvingly at their bridal outfits. “And you two look drop dead gorgeous as always, Lola, you have to show me your sketches one day, I need to know how you did that stitch work.”
After a bit of small talk, Kaiji led them towards near the entrance of the venue where some of Sakura’s men were helping set down a large diamond statue of Reika.
Kaiji laughed behind his gloved hand at the shocked looks on her and Lola’s faces, “I was struggling to find out what gift to get you, between your own wealth, this star studded wedding, and Lola spoiling you, you basically have everything…except for a diamond statue of yourself, I hope it does you justice but I’m sure it will never truly live up to the real thing, right Lola?”
Lola smirked and nodded her head, making Kaiji smile before pulling out his phone and showing it to the purple haired socialite, on there was a picture of a large fancy enclosure, perfect for a snake one would say.
“So I’ve been keeping up with the contractors, don’t worry about a thing, I’ll keep you and Lola updated while you guys are away on your honeymoon but your new house is coming along just fine, in fact you can see that they just finished building the snake enclosure for your scaley babies, I’m sure they’re gonna love it.”
Finally turning his attention to the second bride, he reached into his purse and pulled a set of car keys.
“Again, you two are seriously hard to shop for since you guys basically have everything but I figured that you can never have too many cars and consider this an upgrade to the one I gave you for your birthday a few years back.”
Leading the women outside they were greeted by a brand new, sleek, white Rolls Royce.
Kaiji gave Lola and Reika one last hug. “Seriously, I’m so so happy for you two, you guys absolutely deserve each other and I hope your marriage is long and successful.”
“Kaiji has really outdone himself hasn’t he?” Reika asked with a smile as she watched him walk to his own spouse. “He said it himself we’re hard to get a gift for.”
“It’s Kaiji, he'll always give his friends his best and his enemies his worst.” Lola praised. “And I pity the fool who gets on his bad side.”
“I don’t hold any doubt about that. I taught him a thing or two about poisons after all.”
“Should I worry about you opening up a poisoning business anytime in the future dear? Because I need to know if I’ll be hearing about people dropping dead in the news soon.”
“You’ll be the first to hear about that darling. But it has a possibility of happening,” Reika teased. “Especially with the enclosure being built. I’ve always wanted to get more snakes of the venomous variety.”
“Oh boy I can’t imagine the chaos you’re going to inflict on some poor bastard with that.” Lola shook her head in amusement.
“Don’t worry Lola dear.” The socialite threw back her head laughing. “You’ll always be safe from that. But if you have any certain someones you want to…dispose of just ask your lovely wife for some help.”
“Well if my gorgeous wife is offering I know a few people in the modeling scene who need to be the star of a missing person’s photoshoot.” The blonde mentioned innocently.
The reception raged on still, people dancing, guests mingling left and right and sitting in the corner nursing a non alcoholic drink was the Best Woman herself, Kureha Koizumi, treating herself to a job well done after a week of being pulled in every direction by her crazy ass best friend. Of course despite her complaints and having different fabrics and color swatches engraved into her brain for the rest of her life now, she genuinely couldn’t describe how happy she was for Lola and Reika and truthfully she did had fun helping them with the wedding preparations and activities, not that she would ever admit it, Lola’s head was already big enough from the ceremony alone.
Finishing her drink, she leaves her little corner and approaches the two blushing brides, giving them each a hug and a small smile. “Hey you two, finally married, huh? Congratulations, I’m so happy for you two, really, I am.”
Moving her hands behind her back, Kureha revealed a neatly wrapped gift and handed it other to them, watching with waiting eyes as they unwrapped the big gift first, revealing to be…
…A black and white painting of the two of them.
“So I know you guys haven’t asked me for a portrait but I was inspired one day when watching you guys during the practice reception so I made this during my spare time, the reason why it’s black and white? Well, call it artistic expression.”
Opening up the smaller gift revealed to be…
…A tiny pink crown for a baby.
“Sayaka and I know you two have been talking about children so she got this while shopping for her own kids because whether they’ll be adopted, a surrogate, or something else, the one thing that will be the same is that they’re gonna be treated like royalty, she hopes you guys like it and that she’s sorry for not staying through the entire reception but uh…I’m sure you can understand why.”
“Again, congrats on the wedding and I wish you guys nothing but happiness, also thank you for giving me the opportunity and honor of being your Best Woman, Lola, this was definitely an experience I will never forget.” Giving both Reika and Lola’s hands a gentle squeeze, Kureha said her goodbyes and went to join back to the party and by that, she was heading towards a separate room to get a break from the festivities.
“Fit for royalty don’t you think dear?” Lola smiled at what her moon goth had given the two of them. “Not that I expect anything less from our future child.”
“Love how Kureha assumes we would have a daughter.” Reika as she admired the pink crown in her hand.
“I mean between having a boy or a girl. I say we both heavily lean to having a daughter.”
“Oh I agree I still just find it funny how people’s first assumption about our desire for children is us having several princesses and not a single prince.”
“At least we have a while before we can start planning one.” Lola took the crown from Reika’s hand. “We still have our honeymoon in Cabo to take. Just us on a beach resort with all the shopping we can imagine. Plus I get to see my lovely wife in a bikini looking gorgeous.”
“And I’m sure you won’t be able to keep your hands to yourself when that happens I’m sure.” The violet haired woman teased. “You’ll be drinking me up on those sandy beaches.”
“Hey my wife is a goddess why wouldn’t I worship her?”
Kanon grumbled as she hid away in a dark corner of the venue. She loved Reika, she truly did, but the reception had been going on for hours at this point, and the raven-haired woman had long since reached and surpassed her limit on socialization. Not even the copious amount of cake she had been eating had helped with her mood.
“What I’d kill to be in my quiet little home right now.” The mad scientist huffed as she finished her nth slice of wedding cake of the night. She would’ve gone for another, but she had been warned about leaving cake for the other guests, as if she cared about their feelings.
“Still, I have to give the couple my wedding gift first, and then I’m out of here.”
“Mama?”
“Yes, dear?” Kanon asked, her face softening when she saw it was only her daughter Kyoka who had come over to her little corner. The only person she was willing to tolerate right now. Good because anyone else and she would’ve sent them running away with a harsh glare.
“Are you okay?” Kyoka asked in wide-eyed wonder.
“I’ve just reached my mental limit, Kyoka.” Kanon exhaled. “Festivities like this take a lot out of me. I’m surprised I’ve lasted this long.”
“So we’re leaving soon?” The young girl pouted, not quite wanting to leave the fun.
“Don’t give that look, dear. It’s already late as it is for someone your age, but we’re not leaving quite yet. I still have to give my gift to the couple of the hour.” Kanon explained.
“I thought they already opened all the gifts a while back?” Kyoka tilted her head in confusion, remembering how the newlyweds had opened all the gifts they had gotten from the comfort of their sweethearts’ table.
“I’m afraid opening my gift has to be private for…reasons. The average person doesn’t exactly give someone what I have planned, and we don’t want to scare anyone’s sensibilities, do we?” Kanon rolled her eyes at the thought of people being horrified at her gift. “Plus, I’m sure your Aunt Reika and her wife are going to surprise everyone in a few months with what I got for them.”
“What did you get?” Kyoka’s mind was already running through all the possibilities in her head. “They already have everything they could want.”
“Almost everything dear.” The mad scientist smirked as her hand reached out to give her daughter a head pat. “But can I get you to do me a favor, Kyoka?”
“Like what, Mama?”
“Bring your Aunt Reika and Takahashi to the unused ballroom. I'll be giving them their gift there.”
-Later-
“Soooo, why does your spooky escaped mental patient of a leader want us to meet her in the unused hotel ballroom? Cause it feels like we should be concerned.”
“Honestly? Probably. Kanon is a twisted bitch on a good day and a demented psychopath on a bad day.”
“Not filling me with confidence right now, Reika,” Lola side-eyed her wife as they walked arm in arm down the hall. “She’s not gonna test something out on us, is she?”
“Given that she sent Kyoka to bring us over. I think we’re in the clear on that end.” Reika snorted, thinking about how her surrogate niece had started dragging her and Lola, saying Mama had a surprise for them. “But as for what she’s got planned for us? I’m not sure it could be anything with that woman if I’m being honest.”
“Well, I guess we’ll just have to face the music then.”
“Ugh. I just know she’s got something in that evil, demented mind of hers.”
Lola just patted Reika’s arm in support as they finally reached the ballroom Kyoka had mentioned. Stepping inside, the first thing they saw was Kanon sitting at one of the various tables the room had, her attention fully on the small metal container in front of her.
“Took your sweet time getting here, you two,” Kanon rose from her seat. “I was wondering if you had gotten lost on the way here.”
“Alright, Kanon,” Reika huffed, crossing her arms across her chest as she approached the mad scientist. “Why did you want us to come here?”
“Yeah, we’d like an explanation,” Lola chimed in, trailing behind her wife. “Because a dark, empty room isn’t telling us a lot. It’s also just a touch out of a scene from a horror movie.”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Kanon raised her eyebrow. “This is me giving the two of you your wedding gift from me.”
“Huh?”
“What the hell do you even mean by that, Kanon?”
“The pair of you gained two wedding gifts from me. The first was me attending your wedding with minimal complaint and in this outfit.” The mad scientist began rolling her eyes as she motioned to herself, still in the purple bridesmaid dress she still wore. “The second was this.”
Kanon’s hand gently touched the metal container beside her, immediately sending the newlyweds’ eyes to it. It was small with a faint pinkish purple glow signaling it was active.
“Well, that’s one hell of a looking gift,” Lola muttered, eyes still on the container. “But I’m guessing it’s what’s inside that you got for us.”
“Excellent observation, Takahashi.” Kanon deadpanned as Lola threw her hands up in defense. “But yes, this is my gift. I spent quite a while working on it for you two.”
“Kanon, given some of the birthday gifts you have given me over the years,” Reika stressed, pinching her nose. “Which includes a mutated king cobra and a sentient carnivorous plant monster. I’m hesitant to see what on god’s green earth is in that container.”
“Yeah, Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors got nothing on the one in Reika’s garden, but she’s great at getting rid of evidence.” Lola hummed in agreement. “If what’s in there is as deadly as that, I’m going to be a little concerned.”
“Nothing as dangerous as those things, I assure you.” Kanon defended. “This gift is practically harmless compared to them.”
“Kanon Hojo, if you don’t tell me what that is right now-”
“Fine, allow me to show you two then.” Kanon scowled, cutting Reika off. “Last gift you’ll get from me if this is the reception I’m getting.”
The raven-haired woman turned to the metal container beside her and, with a click, unlocked it. A harsh puff of steam escaped as the device opened. Kanon, with a softness she rarely showed, gently pulled something out just barely large enough to be held in both hands.
“Holy shit-” Lola jumped, eyes not moving from what was in Kanon’s hands.
“Kanon, what the fuck is that-” Reika demanded, her heart nearly jolting from out of her ribcage at what her teammate had pulled out. Her thoughts raced at what Kanon had done.
“I told both of you they’re not dangerous,” Kanon snorted at the newlyweds’ reaction as she lifted what was in her hands in front of them. “In fact, I’m positive you two are going to adore this.”
There, gently held in Kanon’s hands, was a pod filled with a pinkish purple fluid, but that was not the part that had shaken the usually unflappable married couple. No. What had shaken them was floating inside the liquid, connected by an artificial cord, was a developing fetus the size of a plum, unaware of the shock they had caused.
“I knew you two would come bother me about it later, so I figured, why not make this a little surprise for your wedding. It didn’t require much work out of me. I just needed to acquire both of your sets of DNA, which wasn’t hard, mind you. So Takahashi…Reika…may I introduce you to the development of your first child together.”
That was all Lola could utter as she clamped a hand over her mouth in shock, she couldn’t look away for a second from the pink pod in front of her, all of her thoughts screeching to a halt.
“God has nothing to do with it, Takahashi, I would appreciate it if you keep him out of this conversation, this was me and me alone…and you and Reika of course but I did the heavy lifting.” Kanon rolled her eyes.
“…Kanon…you…” Reika was still gaping at the scientist and the fetus, the longer she stared at the baby—her and Lola’s baby—floating around peacefully in the amniotic fluid, the more her eyes started to sting and the familiar feeling of tears began to fill her sight, immediately she shot her hand out to grip Lola’s own hand in an attempt to ground herself and she felt her wife squeeze her hand just as fast.
A baby. They have a baby now, a sweet little bean who is half Lola and half Reika, they’re parents now…or well, they’re going to be parents, they were barely listening when Kanon explained that their child—they have a child, they’re gonna be mothers to a little boy or girl—still needed time to gestate fully in the pod to simulate a real pregnancy and make sure they’re as healthy as can be.
Lola looked at Reika and her heart both clenched in pain yet warmed at the sight of her holding back tears and failing, she knew all about Reika’s pregnancy as a teenager and how it ended in tragedy, she knew that it was yet another scar that never managed to heal so it was why she waited until she came to her about wanting to have children, it was something that they knew they both wanted.
And while they weren’t expecting it to happen this early or in this way, they can’t say that they aren’t excited for what’s going to come in the near future.
Surprisingly, Kanon didn’t remark about how emotional the couple had gotten post reveal, she knew exactly how they would react and was gracious enough to let them revel in the emotional impact and later compose themselves to which the pair were grateful for, Lola had brought Reika into a hug, gently kissing the other woman’s head as she felt her shake and trying to hold back sobs, her own eyes were glossy and she sniffled a couple of times.
For hours they had been showered in money, jewelry, expensive gifts, homemade ones, and every single luxury there was. But not even all of that could compared to this, because not even money could buy them the joy and happiness a child would bring them.
“I…I just…wow, Kanon, I don’t know what to say, this is…amazing, I can’t even describe how thankful I am right now.” Lola croaked out, using her thumb to carefully wipe a tear that threaten to fall down her cheek.
Reika untangled herself from Lola’s embraced and face the dark haired woman. “I can’t believe you, Kanon, never did I ever think you would pull something like this on my wedding day of all days.” She laughed, the sound coming out slightly warbled and choked. “…Thank you, never thought I would ever say this but this is the best gift anyone has ever gotten me.”
Despite herself, Kanon softened just a bit as she gently placed the pod in Reika’s arms, the latter holding it like it was a fragile sacred treasure and to her, it was.
For a moment both Reika and Lola just stared in awe at the tiny human in their arms, blissfully unaware that their mothers were a hairs length away from sobbing uncontrollably.
“Do you two want to know the gender?” Kanon spoke up quietly as to not startle the tender moment between the budding family.
Lola and Reika blinked out of their trance, looking at each other then at Kanon. “You can tell? Isn’t it too early?” Lola questioned.
Kanon shook her head in response. “Physically, you can’t but I know the gender due to creating their chromosomes, I can tell you both now or you can wait until they’re ‘born’.” She raised her hands to give air quotes.
Lola looked at Reika questioningly and the socialite looked back, as soon as they did, they both knew immediately that they wanted to know the gender, anticipation be damned.
“Yes, we would like to know.” Reika answered and Kanon nodded.
“It’s a girl.”
As the brides once again got emotional over the fact that they were going to have a daughter, said tiny little girl continued to float and bob peacefully in her pod, unknowingly comforted by the voices of her mothers.
Touya Kisaragi clapped his hands as he stared around the venue in amazement. It was one of the first weddings outside his own he had ever attended, and it was so grand and gorgeous. He was glad Lola and Reika were able to find happiness in getting married to each other, and was cheering for them ever since he saw how happy they were at his wedding.
He was currently dressed as his “Momoka” persona, clad in a stunning pink dress designed by Lola, because while the brides might not care about his blood-soaked reputation, considering their own pasts, other guests might, and Touya didn’t want to cause any issues for the couple on their special day.
Now that the ceremony had passed and everyone was mingling around during the reception, Touya decided to take this as his chance to give his gift to the newly married couple before he had to head back to his home in Katsushika. Because as much as he wanted to stay out all night having fun at the reception, he still had to occasionally follow the limits placed on him as a death row inmate.
“Lola! Reika! Your wedding was so amazing!” Touya beamed brightly as he brought the two much taller women into a hug. “I’m just happy for you guys right now!”
“I just love happy endings so much, and now you two have one.” The blue-haired crossdresser wiped a stray tear from his face before turning his attention to the gift bags dangling from his elbow.
“Oh, right! I brought gifts for both of you! First up…” Touya, as he handed one bag to Lola, which was a…
…A pink and green music box with the two figurines inside, looking very much like the newlyweds.
“Just a little something I had commissioned by Kari-chan for you.”
He then handed another bag to Reika, which was…..
…A pair of pink and green roses.
“I know you have your very flower-themed so I figured you’d enjoy a pair of eternal roses to remember this day by.”
Touya pulled in Lola and Reika for one last hug. “I know it’s not much, especially compared to what others have gifted you, but I hope you enjoy my gifts. Just promise me to have the most wonderful marriage you can.”
“Awww, Touya honey! You are just the sweetest little thing ever! C’mere!” Lola squealed and pulled Touya into another hug, squeezing the blue haired crossdresser tightly before giving him a small kiss on the cheek.
“These are absolutely beautiful, darling, thank you so much.” Reika smiled and held Touya’s hands, giving them a gentle squeeze of gratitude.
“Are you having a good time, sweetie? Gosh, just feels like yesterday we were watching you walk down the aisle, you and Kaiji are still going on strong huh?” The blonde laughed as Touya blushed and giggled, nodding in agreement that indeed, his own marriage was and still is an absolute dream to him.
Holding their respective colored rose, the brides gave Touya one last hug. “Thank you for the gifts again, hun, we’ll treasure them forever, you have a good night now.” Lola booped his nose.
“Mhm, we know you’re on a curfew so we won’t hog too much of your attention, feel free to take some food home too, we have takeout containers and bags just for that, catering went a tad overboard with the food.” Reika smiled and faintly shook her head, eyes glancing over to the line of people taking home goody bags of food they’ve picked out from the buffet.
“We might’ve overshot how many people that were going to be in attendance so please, feel free to indulge, we insist.” Lola snorted, amused.
Together, the two bid the former serial killer goodbye and on the table, the music box continued to play, the miniature figures of the brides continued to dance together in their own little world.
Lola closed her eyes as she exhaled, shoulders sagging as she relaxed the tension in them, she was alone in her dressing room, Kureha and the others had already moved to the altar, the ceremony was about to start in just a few minutes and her nerves and intrusive thoughts chose now to be a good time to strike her.
She was not having second thoughts, she was not, but even she couldn’t deny the sheer overwhelming feeling she felt when she thinks about how her life will change drastically the moment she walks out those doors and to the altar where she will be waiting for her wife.
Her wife.
She was going to have a wife, God, she was going to become someone’s wife, her, the people eating bombshell model who treated relationships like a checklist and drops significant others when fresh meat comes along.
Lola wasn’t stupid despite what people desperately tried to make others believe, sure, she admits that she can be pretty heartless but never once did she try to delude herself into thinking that she could ever be somebody’s stay at home wife nor that there was anyone worthy of even making her consider the possibility.
For the longest time, she was fine with that, made peace with it even, she was perfectly content being single, having a few flings here and there while living vicariously through her teammates, both of which had seemed to find love in the strangest of places but were thriving all the same now.
But then her old childhood friend and first crush came back into her life, under a new name and identity so far removed from the one she used to know and the feelings that came back with it wanted vengeance and blood, demanding that she face the things she had left unsaid and topics left untouched.
She ignored it of course, no fucking way was she going to open that can of worms, because that means being vulnerable and being forced to admit that somewhere along the way of her path to the top, she had messed up and lost sight of the one person who made her believe that love wasn’t some bullshit gimmick.
Then Reika invited her to that gala and the two of them had clicked like they haven’t been separated for years and changed into different people, the reunion had transformed into friendship, then after a few romps in the sheets, Lola had done something that she thought she would never do. She stayed. She started sleeping in beside Reika, waking up alongside her and joining her throughout the morning when she should’ve left during the middle of the night.
And if that wasn’t enough, after genuinely making love for the first time, the two of them ended up dating. One year later, she is now looking at herself wearing a wedding gown she had sewn herself, standing in a venue she had paid what most people would have to sell an arm and a leg for, just minutes away from being the wife of a wealthy socialite, minutes away from spending the rest of her life with the love of her life.
She’s happy, unbelievably happy, ecstatic even, her perfect life was finally complete, she had quite literally everything she could ask for and more.
So why the fuck was she terrified?
A knock on the door caused Lola to startle and cursed under her breath, heart pounding in her chest as a result from her emotions and the slight scare, she pushed back a few strands of hair hanging in front of her face and cleared her throat.
“Come in.”
To her surprise, it wasn’t Kureha or any one of her bridesmaidens coming to check on her or remind her to get going to the altar.
It was Ivan. The man who saved her from being swallowed by the city’s underbelly when she was just a dumbass kid and the closest person she has to a genuine father figure.
Lola blinked, stunned to see him in the flesh, she knows she shouldn’t be, she had personally sent him an invitation—taking special measures not to alert the wrong people of their involvement with each other—she knows that he would stop whatever fucked up criminal act he was doing just for her and that’s before finding out about her engagement.
“Ivan…you came…” She breathed, eyes taking all of him in like he would vanish if she looked away.
The old Russian man chuckled lowly and stepped further inside the room, shutting the door to give the two of them privacy, afterwards he held out his arms for a hug, one that Lola reciprocated without hesitation, slotting in his embrace perfectly like she had never grew up from that bloody teenager he found sitting on the curb.
“мой ангел, why do you look so surprised? Did you really think I wouldn’t come see you on your own wedding day? I’m hurt.” Ivan teased as he wrapped his arms around his daughter, holding her close, he noted how tall she had become since the last time he saw her despite it being partially from her heels, he made a mental note to start visiting her more often, before he knows it, she’ll be his age.
Lola rolled her eyes, a smile on her lips as she huffed playfully, “Well, can you blame me, old man? You’re still running around with the killers and the criminals like you don’t have metal in your hip.”
The blonde woman yelped and laughed when he gave her a warning pinch on the arm, “Watch it, кукла, you’re lucky I’m trying to be on my best behavior today in front of your friends…and for your information, the metal is in my knees, not my hips but even that doesn’t stop me from showing these new cocky shitheads to respect their elders.”
“Of course, well, just be mindful okay, Ivan? I’d hate to have to find your remains after I get back from my honeymoon because some short tempered trigger happy nutjob decides to act on impulse.” Lola pulled away from the hug, sending him a knowing look.
“No promises but I’ll try just for you, now, don’t you think you should be getting on the altar? I heard from Moonlight that the wedding starts in just a few minutes, are you okay? You’re not hurt or sick, are you?” Ivan questioned, peering into her veil to get a better look at her face.
Lola opened her mouth, then closed it before nodding. “Yeah, I’m fine, just…thinking.”
Ivan raised an eyebrow before nodding himself. “Right, just thinking.”
Lola sighed, she knows that Ivan didn’t believe her, that excuse was weak even for her. “It’s nothing bad, I swear, I’m not getting cold feet, I’m just…reflecting, it’s finally hit me that I’m going to be going from ‘Ms’ to ‘Mrs’ in just a few minutes and it’s…mind boggling to say the least, you of all people know how I used to view relationships, what my opinion about love and marriage and the like, now here I am, about to become the one thing I never thought I’d be. It’s weird…it’s…what if I mess up? What if I’m such a shitty wife to Reika? Or god fucking forbid, what if I hurt her because I’m too fucked up-“
“Natalia.” Just that one word was enough to clamp Lola’s mouth shut, flinching like an abused child at the sound of her birth name.
Ivan sighed as he looked at the girl he had semi-raised in front of him, his gruff and stern face softening, of course, it had made complete sense, this was her first real relationship after all, she was not used to being loved without any strings attached and it’s not registering in her mind.
“My dear, I will never tell you that your feelings are invalid but I highly doubt that you could ever cause harm to Reika, not when I’ve seen you worship that woman like she is your goddess, and don’t you ever say that you are ‘fucked up’, you have your baggage, yes, but need I remind you that your future wife has murdered five men for their fortune—I can definitely respect the hustle—but sweetie, you must talk with her about this, a marriage remains strong with good communication and I know for a fact that if Reika truly loves you and wants to make this work like she so claims then you two can work through the hurt and pain you’ve both been through and finally learn what true love feels like, it’s not perfect, absolutely nothing like those fairy tales and ghost stories but it’s real and it’s yours, nobody can take that away from you and if they try? Well, guess they’ll experience what true horror feels like.”
Lola didn’t know when her eyes got misty in the middle of Ivan’s reassuring words but she felt lighter, more confident after hearing them and when he went to wipe a teardrop that threatened to fall from her eyes, she threw her arms around him once more and brought him into a more fierce hug.
“Thank you, папа, I really needed that, you’re right, whatever happens next, I have Reika by my side, we’ll get through it together.”
Ivan held her and rubbed her back, a rare soft smile on his scarred face just solely for his daughter. “Of course, мой ангел.”
After a minute, the two of them parted and Lola took in a deep breath before looking Ivan straight in the eyes.
“I’m ready.”
The older man nodded and held out his arm for her to take, she looped her arm around his and the two of them pulled the doors open to make their way to the altar room, fully prepared to face whatever comes next, ending one chapter and getting ready to enter a new one.
Reika paced around her bridal suite directly in front of the full-length mirror. Her hands were awkwardly held by her side, trying not to touch her hair or dress while in her nervous state. She stopped with her pacing and looked at her reflection staring back at her. If anyone were to see her right now, they would describe her as perfect with her neatly done hair, perfectly done makeup, and gorgeous wedding dress. However, her eyes would completely give away how tumultuous she felt right now.
“This is ridiculous…” Reika muttered. “...I should feel happy right now. I shouldn’t feel like my heart is breaking.”
But Reika knew why she felt like this as her eyes turned to stare at a photo that sat on her vanity table. Her mother’s photo stared back at her as if to mockingly remind her that the one person whom she wanted most at her wedding was not alive to see it. Of course. Her mother was dead. She would never get the chance to see her daughter, finally happy and getting married to the woman she loved. She wouldn’t get the chance to walk Reika down the aisle at the one wedding that meant anything to the socialite. In that moment, Reika didn’t feel like the dangerous woman who killed her way to the top. No, right now, she felt like the little girl weeping over her mother’s corpse all over again.
“....Ah, that’s why,” Reika choked out, her eyes filling with tears she refused to let fall. “...Mama’s not here to see me get married-”
A sharp knock brought her out of her sorrow, but before she could tell the person to leave her alone, the door opened just enough for a gruff familiar voice to slip through.
“Reika?”
The teary eyed woman turned her head at the sound of her name, and in front of her stood Enrique in his luxurious best suit. The man who had found her when she was a scrappy little girl and took her in.His usual emotionless face softened at the sight of his daughter, who looked close to crying in her wedding dress.
“Florecita…” Enrique murmured as he approached Reika. “You’re crying. ¿Por qué?”
“Oh, this?” Reika smiled, trying to assure her father she was alright, but her voice betrayed her. “I’m fine-”
“Mentirosa,” Enrique remarked as he cupped his daughter’s face with his hand, his thumb brushing away a stray tear from her face as he made Reika look up at him. “I know you well enough to know you’re lying, mi hija. Ahora dime la verdad.”
Reika fell into Enrique’s arms, her cries filling the room as she buried her face into his chest. Her grief and sorrow about her mother finally broke through as Enrique patiently waited for Reika to calm down enough to start speaking to him.
“Will you tell me what ails you, Reika?” Enrique soothed as he gently stroked her hair, making sure not to disturb it. “You should be full of joy right now-”
“That’s the problem! How can I be happy when Mama’s not here?! She’s not here to see me get married! She won’t ever get to see me married to the one person who matters to me!” Reika wept bitterly.
“María Elena.”
Reika froze at the sound of that name. The very same name Enrique had given her all those years ago when they met as a way to connect to the heritage she knew nothing about. A name that reminded her of the hours she had spent learning Spanish from the man who became a father to her, of being taught how to kill with steady hands and an even steadier spirit. Only he was allowed to ever call her that, and the fact that he had called her María Elena right now meant he was serious.
“¿Papá?”
“Mi vida,” Enrique’s voice was gruff but gentle. “No more tears today. The only ones I will allow are ones of joy.”
“Huh?” Reika blinked as she looked up at him, confusion clear in her face, even with tears running down her cheeks and messing up her makeup.
“I did not know your mother, mi hija, other than what stories you would tell me of her when the grief did not eat at you alive. But I know, like all good mothers who love their children with all their hearts, she would not want you to cry these lágrimas especially on a day like your wedding.” Enrique explained softly, brushing a strand of hair behind his daughter’s ear.
“I miss her terribly…” Reika whispered. “...more than anyone knows. Her murder is the reason for who I am today. It’s a moment I will never forget for the rest of my life.”
“I know Florecita. I know her loss is still painful for you, especially on such events like today. The hole in your heart feels worse, but you are strong. You are the strongest person I know. You have been since I first saw you covered in blood and so resentful at the world all those years ago. Yet despite it all, here you are standing alive and well with the world at your feet. I am proud of you, and I’m sure your mother, bless her soul, is proud of you too.”
“You really think so? I’m not…I’m not the daughter she had anymore, not with all the blood I have on my hands-”
“Do you doubt her?” Enrique cut her off, startling Reika with his question. “Do you doubt how much your mother loved you, María Elena?”
“No.” Reika’s voice echoed in the room, sharp but certain. “She loved me with every inch of her being.”
“Then know she is always with you in your heart, and she will be right by your side every step of the way as you walk down the aisle,” Enrique promised. “To a future your mother would love to see you have. Let that carry you throughout your wedding, mi hija.”
Reika didn’t say anything, not that she needed to, as she shakingly nodded and wiped away the last few tears off her face.
“¿Ya te sientes mejor?”
“Sí, y todo fue gracias a ti.”
“Good.” Enrique smiled before grabbing Reika’s shoulders and leading her to the vanity. “Now let’s fix your makeup. Your tears smudged it all over your face.”
Reika gasped as she looked at her vanity’s mirror because her father was not wrong. Her mascara was running down her cheeks, her eyeshadow was smudged around her eyes, and her lipstick was bleeding around her lips. All in all, Reika felt horrified that her crying had ruined it so much.
“No, no, no, my makeup is ruined!” Reika panicked as she grabbed a makeup wipe to clean it all up and start over again.
“You have some time, mi hija,” Enrique laughed as he watched her expertly begin to reapply it back on. “No need to rush.”
“Says you. I need to be perfect.” The bride grumbled as she lined her waterline with eyeliner.
“So how do I look?” Reika turned to ask her father when she was done.
“Like you can’t even tell you were crying.”
“And that little intel won’t be leaving this room. You hear me?”
“I promise, mi vida,” Enrique assured. “Now it’s time, María Elena. Your Angel awaits you.”
Reika closed her eyes and took a deep breath. This was it. The moment she was waiting for. She was going to marry the love of her life. She opened her eyes to Enrique, smiling at her as he offered his arm to her, something she graciously accepted.
“Let’s go, mi hija. To the rest of your life.”
And together the pair walked down to the altar towards the best day of Reika’s life.
The crowd stood silent as they waited for the brides to arrive. Not a single sound could be heard other than the soft rustle of everything moving in their seats as they counted the seconds before the grand reveal. Kureha, Sayaka, Aika, and Shian stood to the left of the alter their pink dresses signaling they were in Lola’s party. While Sakura, Kanon, Kaiji, and Reiaki were all in purple for Reika.
Then the gentle sound of a piano filled the air and everyone’s head turned towards the door.
Lola walked in first looking even more radiant than usual in her wedding dress. Her father, Ivan, stood tall and proud beside her as he walked his daughter down the aisle, his arm linked with hers. Everyone’s eyes were on them as they slowly but steadily walked to the altar where Ivan would place a gentle kiss on his daughter’s cheek before he let her take her spot at the altar. A smile on his face as he took his seat in the front row of the left side of the venue.
Next came the lovely sound of strings being played and again everyone’s head turned to the door to see the next bride come in.
Reika walked in looking just as stunning as her bride in her own wedding dress. Her father, Enrique, calm and collected next to her with a smirk on his face as he walked his daughter down the aisle. Not at all paying attention to everyone’s eyes on them as they slowly walked to the altar. Once there Enrique gave Reika one last kiss on her forehead as he let her take her spot at the altar. His eyes soft as he stared at his daughter before turning to take his seat on the right side of the venue.
Now Lola and Reika faced each other at the altar hand in hand as they stared at each other with so much love and affection almost lost in each other’s eyes. And for the two of them the world around them didn’t exist at that moment.
Then Aruto Shinozaki walked in dressed in his Sunday best and an expression that made everyone wonder where on earth did the brides find him.
“First off I’d like to thank one for coming to this joyful moment.” Aruto began for once being calm in his life. “We gather here to celebrate the union of two people we never expected but should have seen coming. It took a bit and several events but they finally managed to get here.”
That managed to get a soft chuckle out of the crowd. Aruto smirked as he looked at Lola, then at Reika, and finally to everyone in the venue.
“Love is not an easy thing to nurture. It is beautiful as it is dangerous and if you’re not careful you might even get burned by it. Yet here we stand in the presence of two people whose love has blossomed into something wonderful.”
Lola’s heart skipped a beat at his words.
Reika squeezed Lola’s hands even tighter.
“Today we’re here to celebrate the union of Lola Takahashi and Reika Aichi and hear them say their vows of marriage to each other. To hear them say their words of love and devotion to each other.”
Aruto turned his gaze to Lola first.
“Lola Takahashi...do you take Reika Aichi to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love for as long as you live through sickness and health? To hold from this way day forward for better, for worse, for richer, and for poorer? To adore and cherish till death do you part?”
“I do.”
Lola didn’t hesitate with her vow.
Aruto then turned to gaze at Reika.
”And Reika Aichi…do you take Lola Takahashi to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love for as long as you live through sickness and health? To hold from this way day forward for better, for worse, for richer, and for poorer? To adore and cherish till death do you part?”
“I do.”
Reika’s voice was heard full of certainty.
“Then by your vows and by the power invested in me I now pronounce you wife and wife.”
Aruto smirked as he gave the two of them a knowing look.
“Lola…Reika….you two may now kiss your bride.”
And with the promise of a future together Lola and Reika leaned in with their lips meeting in a gentle but passionate kiss.
Everyone erupted at the sight of the brides kissing. Cheers and tears being heard by all the people in the venue.
Yet to Lola and Reika they didn’t pay attention to it all too enamored with each other and finally having their fairy tale ending with each other.
“...Marrying for love, huh? That’s a new one for me.”
The words are foreign to Reika. Marriage and love? Two concepts that were never supposed to meld together for her. Yet here she was about to be married again, but this time for love.
“But this is the only marriage that counts for me. The others were only steps in my climb to the top. They meant nothing.”
Reika thinks back to her past marriages and husbands. Husbands she did not love, married only for their money and status, and how she felt nothing on each of her wedding days with them. Well, all but one. Her wedding to her first husband. She still remembers pushing down the murderous rage she felt as she choked out “I do.” to the man who killed her mother. She shakes her head. This day wasn't about him. Today was about the one person she loved.
“Today is the day I marry the woman I love most in this world, and I wouldn’t trade her for all the money in the world.”
And Reika means every word of it. No amount of money, jewels, or power could compete with her immense love and devotion to her beloved Lola. The one person in this godforsaken world who knew her, her struggles, and her pain. She’d do anything for her, and if anyone tried to harm her…well, they’ll quickly get acquainted with the “Black Widow” of Shizuoka.
(To Kanon) “Kanon, my dear, finally leaving your lab for once? Now, don’t you look absolutely stunning in the dress I got for you! You even left behind your lab coat for once. You should do it more often because it makes you look more approachable to the masses.”
Reika laughs, enjoying seeing the mad scientist scowl at her. She meant it, though Kanon looked gorgeous in her outfit, if not standing a bit awkwardly.
“Really, Kanon, thank you for coming and dressing up. I know this type of thing isn’t your usual event. You don’t know how much it means to me seeing you here and even having you as a bridesmaid. God knows how someone like you and I became friends, but I wouldn’t change it and you for the world.”
She reaches out to hold one of Kanon’s hands, squeezing it, and to her surprise, Kanon squeezes back, and to Reika’s even greater shock, Kanon’s lips turn from their usual dull look to a small smile.
“You….you retched mad woman. Don’t make me cry, I’ll ruin my makeup, and it took forever to get perfect.”
(To Sakura) “My my, it’s my favorite yakuza boss and my maid of honor. My wedding wouldn’t be perfect without your hard work, even if I just added to your already heavy workload, but that’s the job of the Maid of Honor, no? Supporting the bride on one of the most important days of her life.”
Reika leans against Sakura, taking a moment to soak up the mobster’s presence for a bit, ignoring her huff of annoyance.
“But what makes my wedding perfect is the fact that you’re here to support me. My beloved red-haired Amazon. If you had told me years ago, when we first met, that the yakuza boss in front of me would become someone dear to me. I would’ve laughed, and yet we opened up and gave each other something we rarely hand out. Trust. Something so rare and precious in this world we live in. I’m lucky to have met you, Sakura, and I have no regrets about it.
She tilts her head up, looking Sakura in her face, a smile on her lips even in this moment of vulnerability.
“Thank you, Sakura, for being my friend and my sister in this life.”
(To Kyoka) “Thank you, Starshine, excited aren’t you? You haven’t stopped buzzing since you woke up this morning. We should call you a shooting star for that.”
Reika giggles at the sight of her surrogate niece hopping all around her in excitement. Looking nothing like her “mother” with her huge smile on her face. It still stunned Reika that Kyoka existed, having never expected Kanon to create something so humanlike, let alone for her to make a daughter. Still, she poked Kyoka’s nose, gaining a chime of giggles in return.
“I keep forgetting you’re not as old as you look. You’re still very much new to this world. You haven’t had a chance to see all of it. Seems like it was just yesterday your Mama introduced you to me. Just promise your auntie that you won’t ever lose your joy and wonder, Starshine.”
Reika leaned down to press a kiss on Kyoka’s forehead.
“Thanks for keeping the rings safe for Lola and me, sweetie. You took your job very seriously, and I’m thankful for that. I couldn’t ask for a better ring bearer and niece than you.”
(To Sayaka) “Sayaka, dear! I’m glad to see you were able to make it. I know you’re in a bit of a…position right now. I can’t imagine how you’re surviving like this. However, I’m delighted to see Lola’s handiwork looking wonderful on you. I imagine she enjoyed the challenge of designing an outfit for a pregnant woman.”
Reika looks down at Sayaka’s heavily pregnant stomach and how the brunette placed her hand over her stomach. She couldn’t imagine what it would be like to be pregnant, let alone be pregnant with triplets.
“Now come on, I can’t have you standing while you’re this heavily pregnant. What kind of host would I be if I let one of the closest friends of my future wife stand while she’s like this?”
She linked Sayaka’s arm with her leading Sayaka to a chair so she could get off her feet.
“Plus, you have to tell me if there’s any wedding in your future, or else that paramedic is a fool.”
(To Kureha) “Hello, Kureha. Has Lola drained you of all your patience yet today?”
Reika looked at the young woman who had at one point in her life worked under Lola in the mafia. Who had been her loyal companion throughout the brutality of it all. A rare sense of gratitude filled the bride as she smiled at Kureha.
“Thanks for being there with her…back when she was the mafia’s Angel. I’m glad she was able to have someone with her during that period of her life. Regrettably, I could never be there for her, but life, you know? It gets crazy.”
She placed her hand on Kureha’s shoulder, her eyes flickering to a tall, red-haired man standing in the corner.
“So, then wanna tell me the story about how you met him? Because naughty girl Kureha, that man is a worse criminal than me, and that is saying something.”
(To Yoshiko) “Hello, Sweetpea.”
Reika kneels in front of the small girl, a smile on her face as she tucks a stray hair behind Yoshiko’s ear.
“You don’t know how happy I am to see you. Your auntie Lola mentions you all the time. So, of course, you had to be our flower girl. Hope you don’t think I’m taking her away from you. You’ll always be her favorite niece after all. But if you want, you can call me Auntie Reika. I certainly wouldn’t mind the title, and I’m sure Auntie Lola wouldn’t either. She’d be ecstatic seeing us bond.”
Reika brings Yoshiko in for a tight but affectionate hug.
“Lucky me for getting an adorable new niece today.”
(To Lola) “Hello, Love.”
Reika’s voice is soft and warm as she stares at Lola with the most lovestuck expression ever.
“You truly look like a goddess in this dress. I can hardly keep my eyes off you.”
The blonde always looked beautiful to Reika, and that will never change, but that was something about seeing her future wife in her wedding dress that made her look downright divine to her right now.
“Who would’ve thought we’d be here right now, Lola? About to be married and at the very top. Certainly not Natalia and Yukari all those years ago.”
Reika laughs, thinking back to those ambitious little girls from a long time ago who wanted more than what the world gave them. She thinks they would enjoy the fact that they were marrying each other in the future.
“Yet here we are, and it feels a little unreal. I certainly never saw myself marrying anyone…well, for love, at least. Marriage was always a stepping stone for me to gather more wealth. I was fine with marrying for money, with the occasional lover on the side to satisfy my urges. True love was for fairy tales, and I had long since stopped believing in them. But then we reunited, and maybe…I could believe in them again.”
She chuckles softly, a smile forming on her face, and her eyes softening as she looks at her.
“And I don’t want this fairy tale to end anytime soon. Whatever the future holds together, we’ll face it together, you and me, just as it was always meant to be.”
— Kanon
“How did Reika manage to convince me to wear this outfit? It’s demeaning to have so many people see me in this.”
Kanon scowled as she felt quite exposed in the dress she had worn to the wedding. She tugged the skirt lower to cover herself up more.
“Ugh, I dislike festivities on a good day; however, this is one of the few weddings I will attend without much fanfare.”
Kanon looked at her reflection in the window closest to her. She’s as happy as she can be happy for Reika. Truly, even if she can’t express it outwardly. Even if she assumed the black widow of a woman she called a friend would never marry for love. Still, a hypothesis could always be proved wrong, and perhaps this was one of the few times she was glad she was wrong.
“Now, where is that dear daughter of mine? The ceremony is about to start soon, and she has an important role to play.”
(To Reika) “You’re very lucky that this is your wedding, Reika, because I never would’ve worn this dress otherwise. Now consider seeing me in this one of your gifts because this is one of the only chances you’ll get to see me in something like this.”
Kanon crossed her arms across her chest as she gave Reika a deadpan look at her teasing smile.
“Reika, you are, by some unknown reason, one of the few people in this world that I care for despite all your incessant teasing. Nothing will change that. So if I have to attend your wedding, I will because you mean more to me than any discomfort I may feel right now.”
Kanon squeezed Reika’s hand, her ghastly pale skin looking even worse next to the bride’s natural deep tan. A small smile spread across Kanon’s face, and she had almost….almost wanted to laugh seeing Reika’s shocked face.
“Reika, you deserve a chance to have love in your life. Granted, I never expected it with someone so…pink, but if Takahashi makes you happy, then I’m…happy for you. Truly and utterly happy that you’ve found joy in your life. Never in my life have I known anyone more deserving of it than you, my dear friend.”
(To Sakura) “Hello, Sakura, glad to see your hair hasn’t grayed with all the planning Reika has made you do with her. She truly was running you ragged.”
Kanon thought back to when Reika first announced she was getting married to Takahashi and how she assigned the position of Maid of Honor to Sakura. The redhead had proceeded to be dragged around by Reika as they planned every bit of the wedding perfectly, and that wasn’t to mention all the usual workload Sakura had to do as a yakuza boss.
“Thankfully, she gave you the position and not me because frankly, I would’ve been miserable, and I’m too busy with work to deal with her when she’s like that. Not to mention, Reika is very lucky I’m at this wedding, and that’s not even mentioning this outrageous dress she has made me wear to the event. Well, at least you’re wearing a dress to this event too.”
The mad scientist smirks at Sakura’s disgruntled expression, knowing very well the crime boss would love nothing more than to whack her across the head right now.
“But we both know that we’re both glad to see Reika be treated with so much love and respect by someone who adores her and knows her worth. If anyone dares to try to take it from her, they will feel the full force of our wrath.”
(To Kyoka) “There you are, Kyoka. I’ve been looking for you all over. The ceremony is about to start.”
Kanon lightly scolded her as she tapped Kyoka’s forehead.
“But I do suppose this is your first wedding, isn’t it? Most weddings aren’t dear; your aunt just has very extravagant tastes. Now you know what your role is, correct? The responsibilities that come with it?”
Kanon nodded her head when Kyoka showed her the rings she spent all day watching and guarding. Her face softened as she stroked Kyoka’s hair, taking care not to mess it up.
“You’ll be great, Kyoka. Do you know why, dear? Because I know you will be great. I try to. Now come on, let’s get a quick sweet treat in before the ceremony to calm your nerves.”
(To Sayaka) “Miyuki….I would question how you’re surviving several months deep into your pregnancy, but I know that is perhaps one question I would prefer not to have answered.”
Kanon responds cordially because, while she may have no issue with Miyuki, pregnancy was perhaps the one aspect of biology that she never wanted to truly dive deep into. Frankly, she had a whole list of reasons why she would never want to get pregnant.
“Still, congratulations are in order, I suppose, but now, if you excuse me, I have a shooting star of a daughter to corral from her excitement before she decides to pull out one of her inventions to make ‘the room sparkle’ in her own words.”
(To Kureha) “Koizumi, I suppose you would prefer to hide near the wall before the ceremony begins, not that I would blame you. Reika and Takahashi are both truly extravagant people, and their wedding is no different.”
Kanon looked around for a moment, taking in the decorations that she had no doubt were outrageously expensive. Her eyes landed back on the artist as she gave her a small nod.
“Good luck, then the truly headache inducing moments are going to be happening soon, and I’d like a moment to compose myself before the festivities truly explode.”
(To Yoshiko) “Ah, you’re Miyuki’s daughter.”
Kanon looked around, trying to spot Sayaka and point Yoshiko in her direction.
“Your mother should be around here somewhere-”
She stopped mid-sentence at Yoshiko’s wide-eyed staring up at her. Kanon sighed. She had no experience with young children, and it showed.
“I suppose you can stay next to me for a while if you wish. I can’t promise it’ll be anything interesting while you’re here.”
(To Lola) “Takahashi...the woman of the hour, well, one of them. Yes, yes, take in the sight of me in this outfit. You’ll never have another chance if I have my way. So savor the rarity. However, this is your wedding just as much as Reika’s, and I would be remiss if I didn’t also give my congratulations.”
Kanon looked at the blond woman in front of her with an unreadable look before speaking, her voice taking an uncharacteristically softer edge than what most people would ever hear from her.
“I suppose all I can ask of you is to keep Reika happy. Not that I imagine you’ll have much trouble with that. I can see the way she looks at you like you hung the stars in the night sky for her, even if I find it quite nauseating.”
Her one visible eye quickly sharpened as she looked at Lola with an emotionless face, her voice now quite sharp.
“However, so we can both be on the same page. Harm her, and you’ll quickly see what lies in my lab for yourself since I’m positive Reika has told you the stories.”
— Sakura
“You had to give me the role that requires helping the bride, didn’t you, Reika? When I’m already busy enough as it is.”
Sakura grumbled as she smoothed out the skirt of her expensive dress. She at least hoped she could wear a suit, unlike everyone else in both bridal parties, who wore some form of dress.
“Never in a million years did I think the woman known for murdering her five husbands for their fortunes would ever marry for a sixth time, let alone for love. But who would’ve thought she would marry a wife this time?”
The redhead looks around the venue room and gives each of her men that are stationed a sharp nod. Sakura thinks back to Reika asking her to provide security during her wedding. Not that the socialite thought anyone would try to make a ruckus at her wedding, but better safe than sorry. The yakuza boss had readily agreed, and now all over the hotel, her men were making sure no one ruined the special day, and if anyone did? Sakura had given orders that they were to be dragged to the Kito-gumi cells for Reika to deal with later.
“Still, I’m glad to see her excited for her wedding, even if she kept calling me at all hours of the day to get my opinion on what cloth napkins to use, of all things. Ugh, remind me to never be anyone else’s Maid of Honor.”
(To Reika) “Of course I’m here, Reika, you’d gut me if I even thought about missing your special day. Yeah, and whose idea was it to make me Maid of Honor? I’m already swamped with paperwork that doesn’t include me organizing your bridal party.”
Sakura scowls even though her voice doesn’t carry any bite. She doesn’t even say anything when Reika rests her head on her shoulder.
“As if I would be anywhere other than here right now, Reika. As crazy as it sounds, you’re one of the people I care for in this life, you sadistic witch. But you’re right, never in my life did I expect that the woman known for being a black widow would be one of the few people I’ve come to trust. Yet here I am as your Maid of Honor, and I’m grateful for meeting you and the bond we’ve developed over the years.”
Sakura threw her arm around Reika’s shoulder, giving her a firm but gentle side hug. Her usual harsh silver eyes softened as she stared down at the bride.
“No matter how much you stress me out, Reika, I’ll always have your back in this life.”
(To Kanon) “Hello Kanon, glad to see you too, and yeah, would it have killed you to have helped out with the planning at least a little bit?”
Sakura scowled as she remembered threatening various flower suppliers and even decorators to accommodate Reika’s frankly outrageous demands. Truly, she knew Reika adored flowers given her garden of deadly plants, but did every square inch of her venue need to be covered in them? She almost pitied anyone with allergies right now.
“Your work consists of tearing people open and seeing what makes them tick, Kanon, something I’m sure you could’ve taken a break from at least for one day. We had to drag you out of your lab for outfit fittings, and it only worked because Kyoka used her kitten eyes on you. Oh, please, Kanon, as if Reika would let you wear a suit when she’s been dying to dress you up.”
The yakuza boss huffed, pushing down the urge to hit the mad scientist upside her head after seeing the smirk on her face.
“You’re right, though. Reika deserves the love Takahashi gives her and a real marriage, not the shams she’s had with her husbands before this. We’re Silent Tragedy after all, one of the most dangerous teams in the Division Rap Battles, and if you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.”
(To Kyoka) “Well, glad to see you’re having fun here, Kyoka. How many people have you threatened for stepping near the rings so far?”
Sakura snorted at the sight of Kyoka waving around her magical wand in the air. How a thing like that could cause so much damage, Sakura didn’t know, and she was hoping that Kyoka didn't accidentally fire it in the room during this event.
“Kid, I’m begging you to put your wand on safety mode cause I’m not sure anyone is going to be happy at the sight of a giant hole in the wall. The bill alone from that is making me shiver.”
The redhead chuckled at the magical girl fan’s explanation, reaching out to lightly pinch and pull Kyoka’s cheek.
“Kyoka, if anyone tries to ruin the wedding, you leave that to my men stationed around the venue. While I’m glad you want to make sure no one ruins your Aunt Reika’s special day your’re still a kid, and that should be left to the adults, aka me. I’m the Maid of Honor, after all. You just have to keep those rings safe, minus any laser beams being thrown around.”
(To Sayaka) “Hello, Miyuki. Glad to see you’re doing alright. Is everyone still treating you like you’re made of glass while heavily pregnant?”
Sakura questions because she was curious about it. She’s never been pregnant before or been close to anyone who’s been, but Sakura knows she'd lose her mind if she had to spend nine months being treated like a fragile thing while growing a child.
“Personally, I think I’d come close to firing a bullet at someone if I kept being treated like you are right now, but you seem to be dealing with it better than I would. Anyways I suppose I’ll see you at the reception later. The ceremony is about to start, and certain brides want it to go perfectly.”
(To Kureha) “Kureha. Glad to see you’re still alive despite the brides’ attempt to end us to an early grave with their planning.”
Sakura acknowledges the artist with a calm tone that whatever annoyance she may have felt toward her years ago has long since disappeared. They had surprisingly gotten along mainly because of dealing with the wedding couple’s insanity becuase one was bad enough the two of them had forced them to work together to survive.
“For the brides’ sake, whatever animosity we had years ago is under the bridge. Cause otherwise we wouldn’t not survive their onslaught. We’re just here to make sure they have the best day of their lives, even if they seem to be running us ragged. Hopefully, we’ll be able to send them off to their honeymoon soon enough. It won’t come soon enough.”
(To Yoshiko) “Hm?”
Sakura looked down when she felt something tug on her dress skirt. Surprised to see Yoshiko staring up at her with large eyes.
“You’re the flower girl, Yoshiko, right? Reika mentioned you once or twice during planning. You should probably go and get into position since it’s almost time. You have flowers to throw into the aisle after all.”
(To Lola) “Hey Takahashi, you really know how to pick ‘em, don't you? God knows how much Reika loves her theatrics, and now she’s yours to suffer from, but knowing you? My money is on you joining her to make someone’s life hell for your entertainment.”
Sakura sighs as she places her hands on her hips, looking down at Lola with a half-amused, half-exhausted expression before taking a breath. Her face was the picture-perfect definition of “cold as steel”.
“I know I don’t have to tell you to take care of Reika. You’re too devoted to her to harm her on purpose, but it’s the principle of the matter. You hurt her in any way, and you have to deal with me. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, you've got a wedding to attend Takahashi, and I don’t want to make you late. Reika would hate me for that.”
— Kyoka
“Today’s the day Auntie Reika is getting married. I’m so excited.”
Kyoka cheered, twirling around in her dress and letting her skirt swoosh around her. The box carrying the rings was safely stashed in the pocket of her outfit.
“This is going to be so much fun. I’ve never been in a wedding before. I even get to play a role in it, too.”
The moment was important to the young girl who wanted to learn everything in the world. Who still saw it with bright eyes and innocent wonder.
“Research tells me my role as the ring bearer means I watch over the rings for safekeeping. That means I can threaten anyone who tries to take them. I won’t make it easy on them. Oooooh, I should take pictures to show Kumu-kun later.”
(To Reika) “Hi Auntie Reika! You look so pretty in your wedding dress! Like you stepped out of a fairy tale.”
Kyoka bounced on her heels, just excited to see her aunt look so pretty in her dress. She had so much energy in her right now. The urge to spill about everything she learned about weddings, wanting to come out of her, but she held back.
“I’m just so excited right now, Auntie! This is my first time at a wedding, and they’re so interesting! Like how there are so many traditions around in the world, and how people view them has changed over time-”
The young girl was stopped mid-sentence when Reika kissed her forehead.
“This is your special day, and I want to make it special. Of course, I’ll keep your rings safe, Auntie. You’re one of my favorite people, and I love you a lot. I’ll do anything for you.”
(To Kanon) “Oh, hi, Mama! This place is so pretty with all the flowers, and there are so many of them all around the room. Are all weddings like this-”
Kyoka blinked at her mother’s forehead tap. The raven-haired girl stared up and pulled the rings out of her pocket to show her mother.
“I make sure the rings are kept safe before I walk them down the aisle to Auntie Reika and Miss Lola. But…do you think I’ll do a good job? Like I’m not going to lose them or mess up walking down the aisle?”
The young girl confessed as she leaned into her mother’s touch.
“Thanks, Mama. You always know what to say to make me feel better. Ooooh, can I have some of those mini chocolate bars you carry around? Those are some of my favorites.”
(To Sakura) “Auntie Sakura! You’re here! Don’t worry, no one is taking the rings away from me! They’ll meet Raging Stellar if they do!”
Kyoka held up her personal invention. The destructive weapon she called “Raging Stellar” which allowed the young girl to destroy quite a bit around her whenever she used it.
“Don’t worry, Auntie, I wasn't going to use it, not really. It was only just as a threat. I’d only use it on people going to mess with Auntie Reika’s wedding. Anyone who tries to do anything is going to get one of Raging Stellar’s beams to their face.”
The magical girl fan rubbed her cheek at her aunt’s teasing.
“Awwww, but I wanted to fire a beam at someone, Auntie. Why do you get to have all the fun? I guess you’re right, you have the most important role. I’ll stick with keeping the rings safe, no lasers included.”
(To Sayaka) “Mrs. Sayaka, you look so pretty in your dress! I’m doing fine but are you feeling okay though? I’ve read that pregnancy takes a lot of people and you’re carrying three babies.”
The scientific gears in Kyoka’s brain were now turning as she closely looked at Sayaka who waved off her concern.
“Don’t worry I’ll look after Yoshiko during the ceremony and the reception so you don’t have to worry about her. She likes listening to all the magical girl anime I watch. Well bye bye Mrs. Sayaka, I'll see you soon. But first would you like a piece of candy? They’re really good, trust me.”
(To Kureha) “Oh Hey Kureha! My dress is really pretty isn’t it?”
Kyoka twirled her skirt around to show off to the older girl making sure not to disturb the rings that were on the pillow she held.
“Yours looks real pretty too though! And don’t worry I won’t trip. Auntie has been teaching me how to walk in heels recently just for this event. The rings will be safe on their pillows, mark my words. But I’ll see you soon then Kureha!”
(To Yoshiko) “Hi Yoshi! Excited for the ceremony?”
Kyoka giggled as she watched Yoshiko rapidly nodding her head, holding up her flower basket to the older girl.
“I feel ya, I’ve got the rings in my pocket right now and they feel so heavy. But Mama saw how nervous I was earlier and gave me some candies. I think we could share a few before the wedding starts, but just keep it between you and me.”
(To Lola) “Hi, Miss Lola! You look so pretty in your dress! All shiny and glittery!”
Kyoka’s eyes sparkled at how pretty Lola looked in her wedding dress. Hands clapping in front of her as she bounced around.
“Don’t worry, I’ve kept your wedding rings safe! Nothing has touched them so far. So all you have to worry about is making sure you make Auntie Reika happy today. But I think you can do it, she loves you a lot. Then you can have your happily ever after just like in a fairy tale!”
A smile played on the blonde’s lips as she drank in the sight of herself in the mirror, hands caressing and smoothing down the soft silk of her dress, her own design of course, she had spent all her blood, sweat, and tears into every stitch, every embroidery, all of it accumulating into her dream dress.
“If someone had told me that I’d be marrying my best friend, hell, if I’d be getting married at all, I wouldn’t believe them.”
She chuckled to herself but her eyes told a different story, she was still in disbelief. Married. She was getting married, she was going to become someone’s bride, someone’s wife, someone loved her so much to the point of putting a ring on her finger and declaring to the world that she was someone worth keeping, it was exhilarating but also completely nerve wracking as much as she hated to admit, a part of her was hesitant, not of the marriage, of course not, this was the one thing she wanted desperately, she’d kill for it, but it was what comes after that kept gnawing at her, she wants to be a good wife, someone that her beloved can rely on and be proud to call her spouse but she’s worried about not meeting the expectation.
“No fuck that, this is our day, I’m not gonna let some pre wedding jitters get to me, I have come too far and worked too hard just to back out now, I need this, I love her so so much to let some shitty insecurity ruin everything.”
(To Sayaka) “Oh. My. God. Sweetheart, you look dazzling, beautiful, amazing, you are absolutely glowing and yes, the giant pregnant belly you have helps a ton. Seriously though, babes, thank you for being here, I know you must be completely overwhelmed with preparing for your babies so you being here really means a lot.”
She drew the older woman into a hug, loose enough to be mindful of Sayaka’s large stomach in between them but tender enough to convey the blonde’s feelings of gratitude and love.
“Never thought I’d get married before you though, that’s a shock but at the same time you certainly didn’t waste any time giving Yoshiko more siblings, I’d be pissed if I wasn’t impressed, oh and bonus points for picking out some good eye candy, by the time I come back from my honeymoon, I better receive an invite for your wedding, babes.”
She laughed at the growing blush on Sayaka’s cheeks, her smile growing more as she felt a series of thumps and bumps against her hand, satisfied to know that her future niblings were agreeing with her. She moved to hold both of the brunette’s hands tightly, looking at the woman she calls sister with a rare expression of vulnerability.
“Sunshine, I’m going to be so honest with you right now but…I’m scared, I mean I’m really happy but I’m also really fucking scared, I never thought I’d be here, that I’d get to have something like this…a family, being surrounded by people who genuinely care about me, you especially have become so important to me, you’re more than just a friend or a teammate, you’re my sister and I’m so so glad to have met you, thank you for being here, Sayaka.”
(To Kureha) “Look at you babes~ You clean up nicely, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were trying to impress someone~”
She laughed in face of the scowl Kureha gave her, despite the latter’s protests, both girls knew that she had hit right on the mark.
“Hey, I’m just saying, now that you’ve gotten yourself a little boo thang, just keep an eye out for any surprises in the future, you never know when it’s going to be you walking down the aisle. That being said, I really appreciate you going above and beyond these past few days, I couldn’t ask for a better best woman.”
Her eyes softened as she gently cupped Kureha’s face, smiling at the younger girl’s bashful expression before leaning in to kiss her on the forehead and resting her chin on top of the artist’s head.
“…Still feels like yesterday that I met you for the first time, never would’ve thought our lives would end up here but I’m so so happy that it did, I’m glad that you’re here with me, Sweetheart, I already told your mom this but you and Sayaka really are the only family I have…well, at least until in the next few hours or so, haha…we’ve been through a lot of shit but we’re still together and there’s nobody else I want to be there for the happiest day of my life.”
(To Yoshiko) “Oh Yoshi baby, you look so adorable! You look like a princess, my dear, oh you’re gonna steal the show aren’t you? I wouldn’t mind, can you give Auntie a twirl, sweetie?”
She cooed in delight as Yoshiko twirled and showed off her flower girl dress, the little girl giggling as she held her flower basket tight and close to her.
“What a beauty, thank you baby for being part of Auntie’s wedding, I just know you’re gonna do great, so are you happy to almost be a big sister? Your Mama’s belly looks ready to pop.”
Yoshiko’s eyes shined as she rapidly nodded, the blonde gently fixing her hair as she rambled, it warmed the older woman’s heart, even more so when she thinks about having a little girl of her own looking up at her with shining wide eyes, it gave her a confidence boost that she didn’t know that she needed.
“That’s wonderful, baby, I’m so happy for you, maybe one day me and Auntie Reika can give you a cousin to play with, wouldn’t that be nice? Hopefully that day comes soon but let’s focus on right now, knock ‘em dead, girlie, I believe in you.”
(To Kanon) “Well, if it isn’t my favorite mad scientist~ I say favorite because you’re the only mad scientist that I know.”
She grinned, sliding next to Kanon despite the near overpowering aura that screamed “stay away”, what could she say? She loved flirting with danger, it’s how this entire wedding even existed to begin with.
“Look, I know you’re firmly on Reika’s side and only showed up for her but I just want to say thank you for coming, don’t tell her I told you this but you do mean a lot to her and I respect that.”
She held her hands by her sides and gave her a look of respect, the two of them had absolutely nothing in common, practically from two separate worlds but both of them still coming together due to their shared fondness of Reika.
“I especially want to thank you for being such a good friend and indulging us in our…request, truly, we owe you one, Nonny.”
(To Sakura) “Hey there Boss Lady, looking good, the muscles really help pull off your dress, really makes you think what’s taking someone so long to sweep you off your feet…metaphorically of course, I’d be surprised if you even budge.”
She giggled, nodding approvingly at Sakura’s outfit—she had made it herself after all much like with most of the outfits here—before accepting a shot glass on the table, sticking her tongue out when she caught sight of Sakura’s raised brow.
“Oh hush, I think I’m allowed to have some liquid courage, this is huge for me right now, I’m not having second thoughts but I’m not afraid to admit that I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed, my life is about to change in the best way possible.”
She downed the shot in one gulp, the setting the glass back on the table before sighing and shaking off the nerves.
“Anyways, I just wanna come in and say thank you for supporting us, I know you’re busy with big bad Yakuza business but I really appreciate you being here, hopefully seeing all of this inspires you when you have your own wedding one day.”
(To Kyoka) “Hi Kyoka sweetie! Oh, you look so cute! Reika told me that this is your first time at a wedding, are you excited?”
She smiled and leaned down to the younger girl, Kyoka beamed brightly and nodded, complimenting her on her dress and beauty, citing that she looks like one of her favorite magical girl characters.
“Awww thank you sweetheart, that’s high praise, you know, you kinda just gave me an idea of a new fashion line inspired by magical girl anime, perhaps when I come back from my honeymoon, we can watch some and make some designs together.”
She held out her pinky and Kyoka used her own to intertwine them, signaling a promise between the two of them.
“Perfect, now you understand what you have to do right? You’re in charge of carrying our rings to the altar, don’t worry about a thing sweetheart, I know you’re going to do great.”
(To Reika) “Well babe, here we are, finally at the finish line, kinda unfair how you have more experience in this than I do but I’m nothing if not confident and I’m extremely confident in loving you and putting everything I have into this marriage.”
Lola winked with a large grin, threading her hands together with Reika’s as she gaze at the love of her life with nothing but love and affection, despite her cheeky demeanor, she can feel her heart pounding rapidly in her chest.
“Sometimes it feels like yesterday that we first met each other, just a couple of girls trying to survive in a world that had it out for them every single day, I remember the sleepovers we’d have, all the talks about our hopes and dreams when we’d grow up and leave the slums, I would be an actress and funny enough you said that you’d wanted to be a lawyer.”
She laughs as the memory played in her head like a movie, two young girls laying on one small and shabby bed whispering to each other about all the things they’d do and all the places they’d go the moment they had more money than they would know what to do with.
“Well…it didn’t exactly turned out like how we’d thought but hey at least we somehow achieved our dreams…but I always knew that something was missing and it drove me insane, I had everything I ever wanted, money, fame, power, what else could I need? What was missing in my already perfect life?…And then years later, after so many failed relationships, I met you again and suddenly it all made sense now. It was you, Reika, it had always been you, you were the one I was missing my entire life and I’m kinda pissed at myself that it took this long for me to figure out let alone actually propose.”
Lola jokingly huffed, rubbing her fingers against Reika’s knuckles covered in silk and lace, her beautiful black widow covered in white.
“But I guess it’s better being late than never telling you how I feel because I truly do love you Reika Aichi, way before you even took that name, people can tell me over and over until they’re blue in the face about how marrying you is a bad idea or how I’ll be your next ‘victim’ and to all of them, they can kiss my perfect fat ass, they don’t know you like I do and I know that you’re the one for me, and if you’ll allow me, I swear that I’ll prove to you that I am way better than your past five husbands because you know the age old saying, ‘anything a man can do, a woman can do better’ tenfold. My love, my darling, whether I’m the richest woman in the world or the poorest, nothing will ever stop me from loving you.”
— Sayaka
“Goodness, this has to be the most expensive venue I’ve ever been in, I think I saw a bouquet of flowers that costs more than my entire house.”
Sayaka chuckled to herself as she looked out towards the venue before the ceremony starts, truly the brides had spared no expenses picking out and planning their wedding, she could understand, this was their special day after all.
“Mmpf, I know, I know, babies, you’re excited, I am too but that doesn’t mean you can treat Mommy like a jungle gym, at least not for today, this is all about your aunt, though knowing her she’d still find a way to spoil you lot even while still in the womb.”
Sayaka smiled as she rubbed her swollen stomach, she was due in just about three months and she could barely contain her excitement, a part of her felt bad for getting knocked up so close to her best friend’s wedding but Lola has repeatedly reassured her that that she will be taken care of and mindful of her pregnancy.
“Just wait a little longer, my loves and I’ll treat you all to as much cake as you want, thankfully my pregnancy cravings are more normal this time around.”
(To Lola) “Oh Lola, I wouldn’t miss your wedding for anything and yes that includes the hypothetical scenario of me going into labor early…though God forbid that ever happens.”
Sayaka wrapped her arms around the taller woman and held her tight against her, seemingly not caring about her massive baby bump in between them, fully reciprocating the feelings of sisterly love and affection.
“Ahaha, I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting to get pregnant again either but things happen and instead of trying to push me into a marriage that may or may not happen on its own time, you should be more focused on your own, missy, this is your day after all, the only person allowed to upstage you is your wife to be.”
She gently bumped her shoulder against Lola’s, face heating up as she thought about her paramedic lover but that quickly subsided as her best friend started to confide in her, making her softened and gently cradle the blonde’s face.
“Lola, honey, look at me, what you’re feeling right now is completely normal and valid, your life is changing, you’re getting married to a woman you love dearly and who loves you just as much, anyone would be overwhelmed by that and knowing how important I am to you means so much to me because you are just as important to me, not a day goes by without being thankful for meeting you, you’re the sister I wish I had and watching you walk down the aisle is the greatest honor I could ever receive, I’ll always be there for you, Lola.”
(To Kureha) “Kureha dear, oh you look so beautiful! Come now, don’t pout, I think pink looks wonderful on you, truly fitting for the Best Woman if I say so myself.”
Sayaka beamed at her daughter, stopping herself from cooing at her sulking face, knowing that it’ll make her withdraw more if she started doting on her.
“Besides, a little bird told me that you now have a special someone yourself, speaking from experience, it’s not bad to get all dolled up every now and then, just think about your partner’s reaction if you send them a photo, be careful though, too much and you might end up carrying a mega sized beach ball in your stomach.”
She said teasingly while showing off her rounded belly, laughing when Kureha sputtered and blushed as red as a tomato, protesting that “she wouldn’t do that” and “nothing is happening” between her and her boyfriend.
“Don’t worry my dear, I’m just teasing, I know you’re a responsible girl but you have to understand that as your mother, I will always be concerned about your well-being, all I ask is that you protect yourself and be smart about your decisions…now, when do you think I can finally meet the boy who’s stolen my daughter’s heart?”
(To Yoshiko) “Yoshiko my baby, you look so adorable! Look at you in your little dress, you look even more prettier than the flowers!”
Sayaka squealed and cooed at her baby as Yoshiko giggled and jumped in place, speeding up to her mother to hug her legs and placing her face right against her stomach, loudly saying hello to her siblings still gestating in their mother’s womb.
“I know, baby, I’m excited too but we gotta use our inside voices, okay? Just gotta wait three more months and you’ll be a big sister, but right now we’re here to support your auntie, this is a big day for her and remember what I told you, okay sweetie? Gently sprinkle the petals around you when you walk down the aisle.”
She smiled warmly when Yoshiko nodded determinedly, putting a hand on her small head and gently rubbing it.
“That’s my girl, you’re going to do great and then we can eat as much cake as we want, my treat.”
(To Kanon) “Oh…hello Kanon, you look really lovely.”
Sayaka gave a small smile to the other woman, despite her reputation, she still wanted to be polite towards her for the sake of their respective teammates.
“I know we haven’t talked…at all but I wouldn’t be opposed to talking more, only if you want to, I know you’re a person who values your privacy.”
She ended the conversation with a small bow of respect or at least something close to it with her extended stomach.
“Well I hope to see you during the reception, have a good day, Kanon.”
(To Sakura) “Hello Sakura, lovely to see you and you look beautiful today.”
Sayaka smiled politely at the Yakuza boss, despite her initial hesitation when meeting the woman, it soon went out the window the more the two of them talked during the week leading up to the wedding and while she didn’t agree with the redhead’s way of life, she can still respect her as a person.
“I’m doing fine, thank you, despite carrying an extra thirty pounds, I’m actually quite comfortable…though it could be because I’m wearing flats instead of heels.”
She laughed as she pulled up her dress to show off her slippers, while not as bold as the heels the other girls were wearing, they were still cute and matched with her own dress, even better they were a relief on her swollen ankles.
“I guess I’ll see you later during the reception? You have a good one now.”
(To Kyoka) “Hello dear, oh don’t you look lovely today? How are you?”
Sayaka smiled warmly at the young girl, like most people, it was a complete shock to find out that Kanon had a child but that didn’t stop her from being kind and polite to the child.
“Thank you again for looking after Yoshiko, dear, I heard that the two of you have hit it all quite well, she’s been telling me all about the magical girl anime you’ve gotten her into, it’s very adorable.”
She giggled to herself as she thought of the two girls bonding over friendship and magical wands.
“It’s good to see you again, dear, I know you’ll do a great job during the ceremony and thank you again for keeping an eye on Yoshiko.”
(To Reika) “Oh, don’t you look like an absolute dream, Reika, I shouldn’t be surprised, Lola was hellbent on making sure you would be the only one worthy enough to steal the spotlight from her, which I’m sure you know is more rare than a blue moon.”
Sayaka chuckled to herself, sharing a knowing look with Reika, both of them knowing full well about how Lola operates.
“Now I’m not going to go on a tangent about how you better treat Lola with respect and love her in the way that she deserves, I’ve seen the way you care for her and I know how much she means to you, all I ask of you is that you continue to stay in her corner, continue loving her and give her the family she’s always wanted.”
That was it, that was all she wanted to say and as she turned to walk out of the room, she stopped at the door and turned back to look at Reika one last time with a smile.
“Oh, and just so you know, you are always welcome in my house, after all we’re sisters now and I will always support my family no matter what, good luck, Reika.”
— Kureha
“Well so much for being ‘aromantic’ huh? I knew this was gonna happen, no way someone like Lola would just give up romance, she was just waiting until someone better came around.”
Kureha sighed as she crossed her arms, despite her words, she looked actually…happy, happy for her best friend and sister for getting to this point, for finding someone that loves her unconditionally after going through relationship after relationship.
“A wedding that’s more expensive than famous pieces of art, yeah that’s definitely her alright but I guess I can’t blame her, this is usually a once in a lifetime event, who wouldn’t want to splurge.”
She looked down at herself, the pink dress, the strappy heels, and the flower brooch, it was not at all her style but as the Best Woman, she would do anything to make one of the brides happy, including looking like she had stepped out of an enchanted fairy forest.
“Job’s not over yet, still got the ceremony and reception to get through, hopefully it’s not as chaotic as the bachelorette parties…god those were awful, how the hell did they even afford male strippers to throw knives at-“
(To Lola) “Oh fuck off Lola, I’m only wearing this because you’ve hidden all my other clothes god knows where and I’m not impressing anybody, I swear you better not blab to anyone about…you know what.”
Kureha scowled at the blonde, not giving her the satisfaction of seeing her embarrassed, unbeknownst to her, she had taken a few photos and sent them to her boyfriend but no way in hell was she going to admit that.
“Honestly between you getting married and Sayaka being pregnant, I’m convinced that something is in the water, I was surprised when you asked me to be your Best Woman but I tried my best for you, besides I think that responsibility would be too much for a heavily pregnant woman so you’re welcome.”
She stiffened when Lola held her face but quickly relaxed, despite their argument and bickering throughout the years, she really was happy for her best friend, Lola was glowing right now in a way she had never seen before and she quickly stamped down the stray thought about meeting her own beloved at the altar.
“Yeah, we’ve been through a lot and yeah, I do rag on you a bit but nothing will ever change how much I care for you, hell, I don’t even think I would be here if it wasn’t for you, you mean a lot to me too and no matter how annoying you are and how much you like to piss me off, that will never change, I hope Reika knows just how lucky she is to have someone like you for a wife, you two belong together and I wish you both nothing but happiness.”
(To Sayaka) “A-aw, thanks mom, I’m still not used to wearing stuff like this but it was either this or deal with Lola complaining all day and having to handle her while planning the bachelorette activities was more than enough.”
Kureha sighed at the thought and here she had thought that bridezillas were only a myth seen on trashy reality TV shows but somehow Lola managed to outdo herself once again.
“I-Why does everyone keep saying that?! First Lola, now you, what’s next, is Yoshiko gonna ask me when I’m getting married? A-and we’re not doing anything like that! I swear, we’re just trying to take it slow-“
That was a complete lie but she would have to be absolutely insane to tell her own mother that she was having sex with her boyfriend on a more than regular basis, she’d rather drown herself in the punch bowl.
“I swear, mom, I’m taking care of myself, I’m always thinking about my decisions, nothing bad is going to happen, if anything I’m more worried about my heavily pregnant mother being on her feet longer than she should be, c’mon, let’s get you a chair to sit down and no, I will not tell you who my boyfriend is-“
(To Yoshiko) “Awww hey Yoshi, don’t you look cute as a button.”
Kureha smiled down at her as she gently pat the girl’s head, causing the little one to smile brightly at her older sister.
“The ceremony’s about to start soon, are you ready? You’re gonna do a good job, I know it, everybody is gonna love how cute you’re gonna be.”
She leaned down and fixed her crooked flower hair clip, booping her nose and causing Yoshiko to giggle.
“C’mon kiddo, let’s get this show on the road, then we can party and celebrate and you can go on a sugar rush from eating too much cake.”
(To Kanon) “…Kanon.”
She gave a nod towards the older woman, not hostile, not confrontational, just acknowledging the other woman.
“Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it, we don’t know each other and the only reason why we’re interacting right now is because our teammates are getting married so I’m just gonna go my own way and wish you the best.”
With a final wave, she turned on her heel and started to walk away.”
“I’ll see you during the reception.”
(To Sakura) “Hey Sakura.”
Kureha greeted the Yakuza boss with polite formality, not because she was intimidated but because she wanted to be nice, despite her problems with her gang a few years back, it was mainly water under the bridge, surprisingly her and Sakura got along well enough, both of them exasperated by having to put up with both brides’ demands and general chaos.
“Just wanted to say thanks for helping me with the party planning and all that stuff, I thought Lola could be a little much but it seems like her and Reika are a whole different level when together, I was seriously going to tear my hair out when Lola sent me on a wild goose chase just to find some obscure ass fabric for her dress.”
She let out a sigh when thinking about it but smiled when Sakura shared her sentiment.
“Yeah but now we’re at the finish line, only a few more hours left and then we can be left alone when the brides go on their honeymoon, I definitely need a break, I’ll see you later.”
(To Kyoka) “Hey there Kyoka, you look so pretty, do you got the rings ready?”
Kureha smiled at the young girl who nodded and presented with the sacred pillow with the rings.
“Great, keep a close eye on them, you’ll be going after Yoshiko, don’t worry about a thing, alright? Just keep your eyes forward and make sure the rings don’t fall off.”
She gave her a thumbs up and smiled when Kyoka reciprocated.
“Alright kid, the ceremony is gonna start soon, break a leg…uh, don’t literally break a leg, that was a joke-“
(To Reika) “Wow, respectfully, you look gorgeous, Reika, I’m usually confident in my abilities but now you kinda got me second guessing myself.”
Kureha flashed a small smile at the purple haired woman, out of all the members of Silent Tragedy, Reika was the one member she was somewhat familiar with in due to no small part of her best friend bringing her over any chance she got.
“I’ll admit, this whole thing was a surprise, when Lola told me that you two had history, I didn’t think how far back it went nor that it would lead to this but I’m glad that Lola has you, I know you really love her and it makes me happy to know that she’ll be taken care of, just don’t hoard her too much.”
Kureha gave one last wave as she left for the door.
“Good luck on the altar, I wish you and Lola nothing but the best, take care of my girl, will you?”

Sayaka had checked the oven for the fifth time as she fluttered around the kitchen and living room, making sure that everything was clean and spot free and that every piece of her surprise was set in place, she looked at the clock on the wall, yet another action she had been repeating for hours at a time, she still had a bit of time left before Ayumu arrived.
A smile rose on her face and her stomach fluttered with butterflies (or maybe something else-) at the thought of her…boyfriend? Lover? They never did talk an about what they were at in their relationship but Sayaka knew that she was deeply in love with him and had been for a long time even before their four day tryst last Christmas, never did she thought she would ever fall in love again after the death of her husband but Ayumu was nothing like she had ever experienced yet at the same time was everything she could ever want in a partner.
Ever since Christmas, it was like a switch had been flipped, the two of them just couldn’t stay away from each other nor did they want to, they had frequent dates, scheduled multiple playdates and slumber parties between Yoshiko and Sara so they could spend time together and when the girls would fall asleep, she and Ayumu would spend hours in the sheets together in the throes of passion and love.
Just thinking about her escapades with him is enough to make her blush and giggle like a schoolgirl, resting a hand on her now quite visible bump and feeling a swell of joy and affection, to think in just six months, she’s going to be a mother again, and not to just one baby but three of them and all from the love of her life.
Of course she was surprised when started having symptoms but looking back on it, neither of them were really concerned about using protection and if Sayaka was being honest with herself, a part of her really did wanted to be pregnant again, she missed the feeling of her womb being full of life again and now that she’s got her wish, she’s been on cloud nine ever since.
Which led her to right now, the only people who have knowledge of her pregnancy are her teammates who she made them both swore to secrecy not to tell anyone, of course she wanted to tell Ayumu the moment she saw those positive test results but for one, she wanted to be undoubtedly sure and two, she wanted to make the reveal memorable for the both of them.
The sound of the doorbell brought the brunette woman out of her thoughts and her heart fluttered in her chest, rushing over to the door, her smile grew bigger at the sight of the blonde paramedic on the other side, seeing her beaming face caused Ayumu to widen his own smile, eyes softening in affection at the sight of his beloved.
“Hi.” Sayaka greeted breathlessly.
“Hello to you too, how are you feeling?” Ayumu chuckled and stepped inside once Sayaka ushered him in.
“I’m fine, great really, I’m glad you could make it.” Sayaka leaned up to kiss his cheek before taking his jacket and hanging it up on the coat rack, taking the taller man’s hand and leading him to her dining room.
“Of course, I could never decline a chance to see you, the dinner is just a bonus.” Ayumu winked as he sat down, eyes roaming the enticing spread of food laid out on the table, he whistled, impressed. “Goodness, you really went all out, dear.”
“I hope it’s not too much, I know you’ve been working hard more lately, I just want to make sure that you’re getting enough food and taking care of yourself.” Sayaka smiled as she sat down in her own seat, the two of them now starting to fill their plates and beginning to eat, Sayaka subconsciously filling her plate with more food needed for apparently one person.
What came after was nothing short of lovely, Sayaka and Ayumu talked, laughed and bonded together over a nice, homecooked meal, at some point the two of them were just looking lovingly into each other’s eyes while using one hand to hold onto the other’s before the sound of the oven’s timer went off, breaking the two from their romantic moment.
Sayaka gasped and shot up from her seat, although a little to abruptly as nausea flared up inside her but thankfully she managed to push it down and assure Ayumu that she’s fine before making her way to the kitchen, putting on her oven mitts to take out the freshly baked sweet bread, humming a tune to herself as she placed the finishing touches on the baked goods.
Deeming her creation perfect, Sayaka took the still hot tray and made her way back to Ayumu still sat at the dinner table, after helping her clear the table, she set the tray down and smiled so brightly and wide that her cheeks were starting to hurt, giggling at Ayumu’s confused expression.
“What…is this, dear?” Ayumu questioned as he looked at the three human shaped bread cakes in front of him, they all had smiley faces and were coated in frosting in certain areas that look akin to that of baby clothing. The more he stared at them, the more the gears in his mind started to turn before his eyes widened and he snapped his head over to look at Sayaka.
Sure enough, the brunette woman was grinning hard while keeping her happy tears at bay, as she held up three positive pregnancy tests, taking the blonde man’s hand and placing it under her shirt, making Ayumu’s breath hitch as he felt over the swell of her stomach.
