i will be here for the rest of 2026.
you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love — OLIVIA RODRIGO.
My Mouth Is Lonely For You (From Mother Mary)
Produced by - FKA twigs, Koreless, Jeff Bhasker & Tobias Jesso Jr, Xquisite Korpse
My Mouth Is Lonely For You (Which I'll also be referring to as MMILFY) is the boom from this album that was much needed. Whilst being undoubtedly a surface level song, with repetitive verses and chorus, its a fun, modern song that has me constantly wanting to come back to it and press play, whether that is what makes a good is up for debate, but its definitely a catchy that you'll either find enjoyment in, or not.
Its an airy, upbeat, modern pop song, with FKA twigs work present throughout.
Anne Hathaway's vocals work really well with the style of song, with FKA twigs being a leading producer and writer of the song, a shift from Burial's production being led by Charli xcx and Jack Antonoff. Despite the shift in team, the songs both work sonically together, which brings me anticipation for the full albums release as they are the two main teams for the tracklist.
In conclusion, Anne Hathaway shines as a believable popstar in the role of Mother Mary throughout the released singles, and with the trailers and releases so far I can say for certain will translate in the final product of both album and film due to her and the teams working on both projects immense talent.
Burial (From Mother Mary)
Its taken me a little bit to listen to the song purely for the fact it fell off my radar cause ive been busy
Burial (From Mother Mary), performed by the outstanding Anna Hathaway, is a fun, darker pop song that you coulld probably get stuck in your head for a while. The whole album, being 7 songs, has many high industry collaborates (such as Jack Antonoff, Charli XCX, FKA TWIGS, and many others) on it so theres no doubt I'll probably end up loving the album as a whole. I enjoy Anne Hathaway's voice in this song, but i may be slightly bias as I love that woman and everything she does, but i do hope we will hear some more amped up vocals in the full product.
I do have a slight gripe with the repetitiveness of the song, there's no stand out moment where I go WOW, each verse and chorus sounds the same.
In comparison to Skye Riley, another fictional artist created for a horror movie, i dont think this single is as immediately attention grabbing as Blood on White Satin, which for me was a smash hit the second I first heard it, i CRAVED more from; Burial however, is just a fun, enjoyable song ill have in my queue for the next few days and that gets me excited for the whole Album release on April 17th (Day after my birthday, kind of made for me actually).
Overall, I think fictional popstars are a really great idea which i think more companies should be capitalizing on more and im so glad A24 are using Anna Hathaway as their attempt. I can for sure see this song growing massively on me very soon, and I WILL be supporting the entire release just for my immense love for the topic, i mean it, fictional popstars are truly the way to my heart, ESPECIALLY in horror movies, looking at you Skye Riley. I cant wait for the full Mother Mary Greatest Hits album and I can NOT WAIT for the movie, it was in my predicted top 12 movies of 2026 list i made at the beginning of the year and the album alone is one of the reasons, and this song gives me very high hopes.
NMF 03/10/09
The first week of October and despite taylor swifts new album, there was quite a few releases this week, hers unfortunately being the weakest.
My top releases of the week are:
(in no specific order)
1. ‘Love zombie’ by Victoria Justice is THE halloween song of the year, and im so glad she finally released this new revamped, modern recreation of it after ive been obsessed with her leaked album for a year or two now. The production on this song is incredibly catchy and well done and the vocal choices are what MAKE the song. I hope she continues down this genre of music for her future releases🙏
2. ‘B.O.Y Deluxe’ by Kylie Cantrall is the solidification of Kylie Cantrall as an artist UP THERE for me, with only 3 extra song (one being an interlude) the additions still feel well worked into the concert aesthetic of the EP. The songs themselves are INSANE, every song on the base edition was a hit and that carried into the deluxe, top tier production and Kylies beautifully unique vocals set her place in the modern pop world
3. ‘Wet like’ by Ashnikko (Feat. COBRAH) is the latest single from Ashnikkos upcoming album, Smoochie girl, an album i am HIGHLY anticipating, and this song is a BANGER. Its clubby, its unique, its fun and its camp and thats why this song is so good, and again, PRODUCTION, makes me feel like im a model on a runway
Other releases i want to mention:
1. Taylor Swift’s new album ‘The life of a showgirl’ is a huge miss. From the cringey lyrics that seem narcissistic and as if theyre TRYING to be deep, to the surprisingly flat and boring production from Max Martin which shocked me due to his incredible work on eternal sunshine, which im now realising just HOW MUCH Ariana helped bring that side of her album to life too. From start to end i was waiting for a BANG, and all of a sudden it was over. Every song would seem as if it was leading to an explosive ending but would end up just being a louder chorus. I was truly open to like this and thought i would honestly, but for me it completely missed, and it seems it did for everyone else
2. ‘Glass jaw’ by Kat Cunning is a stand out release because ive been a HUGE fan of Kat Cunning since trinkets, which is one of my favourite shows, and i love this EP, her voice is SO unique and it scratches my brain so well. There will always be a place in my heart for Kat Cunning
3. ‘Back to me’ is the debut song by SZN4 and is a good one. Imo its nothing special and quite repetitive but i am still on the SZN4 train ride
MUSIC RELEASES 28/09/25
SO much music released this week and all of it is genuinely great, ESPECIALLY the albums, not a single album ive listened to that i havent loved.
‘Tit for tat’ If you knew me in person you would know my absolute ADMIRATION for Tate McRae, she is truly one of my (frankly many) favourite artists oat, and tit for tat is another hit from her. From the incredible production that she has made a staple in her new era, the expectedly great vocals, to the dramatic and insanely catchy lyrics that i DIE for, i see this being one on shuffle for a long while
Perries new album ‘PERRIE’ was INCREDIBLE, she has so much power in her vocals and as an individual, another strong debut album from the LM girls. Favourite song right now is probably ‘Bonnie and Clyde’, INCREDIBLE production and vocals on that
‘Vie’. Oh. My. God. I love modern music that encapsulates a sense of 90s/80s music in it, and this is the best ive heard done, PERIOD. Doja Cats voice just works so well with the vibe, i ADORE this album, to death, i cant put into words yet how much, its all just incredible; her voice; the production; the LYRICS; the catchiness. Again, i see myself having this on shuffle for a LONG time. Favourite song is probably ‘Aaah men!’
Individual tiers aren’t in any order
This has nothing to do with music or movies BUT i have to talk about how i just finished blasphemous and that game is CRAZY good
Thank you to the friend that force me to play it🙏
