Thinking about some... low-stakes AU of sorts where nothing bad happens to Robotniks (I'm always thinking about this btw) and I'm thonking of how Gerald stuff could work in this

Movie Gerald is probably just homophobic. In that "I'm not homophobic but why can't they just keep it to the bedroom" way and then Ivo goes "Grandpopsicle. Meet my lesser (but still pretty good) half. His name is Stone"
and then Gerald is like. Gerald is like.
"Oh great, NOW you want to end our lineage. The Robotnik gene is truly wasted upon you. Is what I would say if Maria wasn't around to keep it afloat. Anyway, I guess I should've expected this from you. Also stop calling me grandpopsicle I hate this dumb shit" and it's bad and he starts ignoring them and Ivo tries to reconcile with him repeatedly and make him see reason and Stone wants to kill that old goat and. They definitely don't invite him their wedding. Well actually Ivo secretly did and Gerald just returned to sender.
Okay this sucks I'm sad now. Anyway, NEXT. gameverse
Gameverse Gerald would NOT be homophobic. He'd hear that Ivo is in gay relationship and uses it as a jumping point to talk about sexualities in various ancient civilizations before being like "anyway I'm glad you found somebody, Ivo, truth be told I was a little worried about you being alone all the time, hope he keeps you in check haha. Also hey, where does he work. No reason" and then Ivo goes "oh he's a GUN agent :)" and Gerald is like. "Oh. Uh. Okay. Did he. Ask anything about your work or stuff about the ARK." and Ivo's like "oh he likes to listen to me talk and always asks such interesting questions :)" and internally Gerald's like "FUUUUUCK"
Cuz if you remember. GUN tried to screw with him majorly so many times. Always pressuring him for weapons of mass destruction fully knowing how much he hates it and treating him like their pet scientist. In this AU he successfully cured Maria and somehow protected Shadow (don't ask how. I don't know) and there was no raid but still, that was. Such an awful time for him and the last thing he wants is for Ivo to get caught up in something like this.
He'd try to keep it to himself for a while until exploding about it because that man loves to bottle his emotions until he spirals out of control and man that wouldn't be pretty but I'm certain at some point they'll work it out, Stone understanding that this comes from a place of genuine concern and wanting to protect Ivo, Gerald understanding that Stone would never let anything bad happen to Ivo or his family, and he gets invited to the wedding hooray
(Oh and in both movie and gameverse Maria is 100% supportive btw. I didn't mention that because we KNOW she would be)
