Aaaand an assortment of fic recs under the cut!
~ Let the House Absorb the Blame, White Collar (2,509 words)
When a case goes wrong, Neal ends up drugged, confused, and he does the only thing he can - he runs. What he doesn't know is where he's run to, and why he's so reluctant to leave.
Which is how Peter finds his missing CI, passed out on the floor of his own living room.
~ L is for Lost, The Listener (3,198 words)
They just wanted a relaxing night out in town, but it ended up with Toby in trouble.
~ Slumped Over, Nightwing (4,735 words)
“Jay?” Dick mumbled, clearly confused. “What’re you doin’ here?”
“This is my safehouse, dumbass.” Shit.
Dick blinked. “Yeah, but…” he furrowed his brow. “Didn’ think you’d be here….” He continued blinking at Jason, but made no further moves to enter the apartment.
Jason’s mind was running through scenarios. Drunk? High? Drugged? Some sort of mental breakdown? And why had the golden boy come here?
~ A Study in Exsanguinity, The Musketeers (3,411 words)
D'Artagnan has been abducted by a cult of purple-robed men. It's all somewhat tedious, until they start preparing him for sacrifice.
~ Get Help, The Man From UNCLE (2,751 words)
Illya and Napoleon have been captured, and escape is made slightly more complicated by the fact that Illya has been drugged and has only a vague understanding of what is happening around him.
~ Juno Steel and the Inside (wo)Man, The Penumbra Podcast (15,652 words)
Juno Steel takes the case of Faustus Silva, a wealthy man beloved by all--except, of course, for the person that's trying to kill him. Wherein Juno gets all dressed up and goes to a party which inevitably goes terribly, horribly wrong.
The look of humiliation & disgust when he’s being examined. The heavy, hitched breaths, the way you can see it on his stomach. His stubbornness & defiance.
A Thought: Daredevil’s pain tolerance is both god-tier and an absolute nightmare.
I keep thinking about how Matt Murdock’s whole deal is heightened senses. So sensitive that a normal cotton sheet feels like sandpaper on his skin.
Now picture this: if something is a 10/10 pain for a normal person, Matt feels more than that. Not just more intense, but more detailed. He doesn’t get “ow, my side hurts,” he gets: “three torn muscle fibers are grinding against each other every time I breathe, and the thread Claire’s using to stitch me is scraping along each nerve ending like a violin bow.”
But here’s the kicker: he can still fight through it. Because while he feels it sharper than anyone, his pain endurance is off the charts. A normal person’s 10 might drop them instantly. Matt? He’ll keep moving until his body literally can’t.
So yeah… a deep abdominal slash (like what Nobu did to him), compound fractures, severe burns... For us, instant hospital trip. For him, it’s Tuesday.
Matt Murdock is basically living proof that you can be in more pain than anyone in the room and still be the last one standing.
And for god’s sake, Charlie interpreted that pain and restraint so damn hot.
