Also like... a lot of militant vegans I've met are pretty ableist and classist as well? They seem to think that anyone can do a vegan diet and immediately have all their health problems cured, despite many people who have dietary or monetary restrictions telling them that they can't afford to live on expensive substitutes and supplements (you MUST take lots of vitamins and supplements to successfully go vegan or risk ruining your health dramatically!), or that they can't get the levels of nutrients their bodies need from just supplements and vegetables/grains/etc.

Okay, I know it can also be hard to be skinny, but... The problem is that media tells us that in general, skinny is the ONLY way to be hot, and that fat is always ugly. There's a lot of positivity toward thin girls, even if it's of an idealized kind. That's the context that has to be considered before derailing a post that was made with the aim of uplifting a group that is normally discriminated against and making them feel like they're worth something

My wife was feeling down about herself the other night and asked me “why do I look like this?” And I immediately brought up a photo I had taken of a sculpture of Aphrodite I had taken at the Chicago MOMA. I said, “look at this picture. What does she look like?” And my wife very shyly answered “Me…” (Literally her body is IDENTICAL to the sculpture) so I replied “that is the Goddess Aphrodite. THAT is why your body looks like this.”
