Monty very much so had a vision, I don’t know why you keep trying to discredit the creator like this. He would take Shane and I to a late night Thai spot way past work hours where we’d all equally discuss aspects of the show, and even things beyond that (such as leaving.)

The boys would talk about what scripts they needed to solve for Poser and Maya, sometimes ping-ponging ideas for fights and weapons back and forth while I ate chicken skewers with peanut sauce, focused on listening. Sometimes I’d chime in with relevant knowledge about a type of weapon, or a dance, or mythos that might serve to support their ideas, and the three of us would continue brainstorming from there. My ears didn’t stop working just because I wasn’t speaking.

The thing that has been a thorn in my side is people like you behaving like simply sharing my truth—the real events I experienced—is somehow an affront to you or anyone else. You’re just going to have to come to terms with the fact that what I have to say upsets whatever delusions you have, and that requires some reflective introspection for you to solve.

Volume 2 Opening

The opening was made by the two of us with some compositing assistance from Shane. Inspirations were drawn from Naruto Shippuuden's 8th Opening and the Lightning Returns: FFXIII Special Effects Trailer. I don't recall for how long we worked at it, but the time stamps sure paint some kind of picture.

Winter Schnee

Conceptualized in 2013 following the idea of the Maidens, Winter was meant to differ from Weiss not only visually but also characteristically. I was given a lot of Aion references, primarily the Abyss armors. Lightning Farron and Erza Scarlet were also prominent influences.

With the premise that she would be defiant of her father's expectations and reject her responsibilities as a Maiden, I designed her opposite of her sister:

Where Weiss wears an asymmetrical hair style but symmetrical clothing, Winter would have symmetrical hair styles and asymmetrical wardrobes. I insisted on giving her pants to lend to her authoritative role. I inverted the direction of the Schnee insignia to represent her conviction to take down her family's empire using their very technology against them. It was requested that her main outfit feature a crystallized crow's skull.

Qrow Branwen

I did a preliminary sketch for Qrow knowing how important this character was to Monty. The one desire he had was for there to be, "a lot of feathers," while also referencing Guilty Gear Xrd. What a request.

I unfortunately couldn't bring myself to revisit this design.

Venus Adele

A member of team RAVN. Her two-handed Chain-Whip Katana was designed, modeled and textured before being passed off to Shane for rigging. Inspired by FF Type 0's Seven.

Episodic Designs

Following the Volume 2 wrap, I was tasked by Monty with designing alternative outfits for classical trope episodes such as Beach and Parade/Concert. They only had to be good enough to meet Monty's standards and detailed enough for me to reference when modeling.

Things did not go according to plan, but I still enjoyed the process and opportunity to explore the characters' personalities. Monty told me Neptune needed floaties because he doesn't know how to swim.

Penny got to go to the beach, too. Just not in the water.

Young Cinder

Exploring her journey from starting out as, "ashes," that would later catch flame to become a, "cinder." Her leggings were meant to resemble those on her catsuit design.

Cameos

This request was the most annoying because I could not for the life of me figure out a way to make these characters/team names follow the naming/design convention of the world. Monty had always been vocal about wanting to include his friends in some way and I tried my best, but I'm not very fond of it personally.

I continued working on things up until June of 2015 when it was made more than apparent that my presence and involvement was neither welcomed nor appreciated over a phone call:

"Trying to find a place for you on RWBY is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole."

I packed my things and left.

It has taken me a decade to start believing in myself again, and looking back at everything that Monty trusted me with restores some of the confidence I once had. I should be proud of what I accomplished regardless of how things played out.

I'm surprise to see your post pop up in my timeline. Idk, it's still fun to see RWDE posts nowadays. Especially from one of few RWDE blogger that doesn't hate Ruby in an extreme way. (Don't get me wrong. She had made a lot of weird dumb plans. But she wasn't the only one who cooking up those ideas.).

Anyhow. Yeah. I agree with you about "ancient precursor tech so advanced it may as well be magic is real" idea. VOL 1 already has that sci-fi feels, might as well go deeper. Heck, combined that with the whole "Grimm can develop inteligence based on how long they live" plot. Boom! Secret Grimm civilization. I feel like that would sound less of a clusterfuck we have now.

quite often i think about what rwby could've been had they gone the OG Assassin's Creed route. You know, not "magic is real 😲" but more "ancient precursor tech so advanced it may as well be magic is real"

Just wanted to put this here so I could have it saved. I was reminded of this after watching a video about the Vic stuff. I still remember people thanking Rooster Teeth for firing him and going "Oh they couldn't have known" when it came to the allegations but at that point in time I remembered the multiple posts in 2015 on Reddit and Tumblr of RWBY fans begging RT not to hire him and then those fans being shouted down by other fans because of how things were treated at the time. I also remembered someone even claiming they spoke to Gray about it and Gray saying they'd look into it and when nothing happened people called the fan a liar. I didn't bother trying to find it at the time since I was busy with other stuff but better late than never.

So this is Interesting because if RT didn't know like fans claimed well someone allegedly told the head of animation at the time and even if the person is lying (Which I believe they are not) then I find it really hard to believe that no staff saw any of the posts about Vic the day he was announced as VA and the following 3-4 years RT had him on contract considering how online RT employees were. Considering how RT functioned as a company I wouldn't be surprised if they knew about Vic the whole time and/or didn't care until the allegations became mainstream and forced them to do something. I wouldn't be surprised if Gray just said that they'd look into it to get people to stop asking questions and nothing was done and a byproduct of that was making this person look like a liar and Vic look clean because why would RT hire someone like that?

I wouldn't pass it up for this to be the result of some mismatched telephone game crossing with selective memory arising from Miles all but jerking himself to his ex-girlfriend's bisexuality (Arryn Zech is bisexual, Miles himself is not).

Apparently the red in Ruby's hair was confirmed to actually be dye and not just anime hair logic at some point, so imagine in volume 9 if it started fading more and more as her mental state got worse. She's losing her color as she loses herself.

I don’t know how many times I have to say this but if you smooth away at every rough edge that makes a well written character interesting you’re always going to end up with the same smooth sphere. And if you’re only comfortable playing around with that sphere then either you never liked the original all that much or you should probably have a long think about how you consume with media and why this is the only way you seem able to do so
