Disney released the lyric video for We Don’t Talk About Bruno on their Vevo channel today, and I wondered how it would handle the overlapping lyrics in the final part of the song and if I could learn anything new from it?

And then I learned that Lin Manuel Miranda is too good at what he does and my heart cannot handle it and I’m cry.

Isabela starts that part reprising her earlier bits from the song, but she finishes it earlier than the others, and adds: “and I’m fine”. For the second half, she reiterates that Bruno promised the life of her dreams would someday be hers, and repeats, like a mantra: “and I’m fine, and I’m fine, and I’m fine, I’ll be fine”. It’s like she’s reassuring herself that even though she’s about to do something she absolutely doesn’t want to do, things will turn out okay in the end. It’ll be good for the family, and Bruno said she’ll have the life of her dreams, didn’t he? …didn’t he?

Meanwhile, Dolores starts out reprising the spoken word-esque part about her impressions of Bruno, but for the second half, she sings the bit about the man of her dreams being betrothed to another… and then she joins her cousin with the mantra: “and I’m fine, and I’m fine, and I’m fine, I’m fine”. Because Isabela is going to marry Mariano and everything is happening just as Bruno predicted and it hurts but she’ll smile and bear through it because she loves her cousin and her family! It’s fine! It’s fine!!! …isn’t it?
