And the thing with trunks x mai aside from the obvious glaring issues of the age gap, it's just...so boring. Blah. Empty. Forced. No substance, no chemistry, nothing that stands out , no narrative parallels NOTHING.

When you look at other dragon ball ships, whether they're well written or make sense or not (let's be real this is dragon ball, none of the pairings are all that well written) they at least have something going for them. Be it fun banter or just having buzz or spark, something that makes it iconic. Bulma x Vegeta or Gohan x Videl are arguably 2 of the most popular ships in DB, why because they have something going for them. Gohan and Videl had a good dynamic that eventually blossomed into love and decent chemistry, Bulma and Vegeta are both firey and arrogant and play off each other so well. They're fun together!

Trunks x mai...is a huge nothingburger. They have no chemistry, no profound moments, there's no interesting banter or a good, compelling dynamic, they don't play off each other well, their personalities don't mesh well enough to make a good ship. It's very much gives "go girl, give us nothing!" Mai is not the kind of girl I would have imagined for Trunks, who would be an interesting match for him; not only was her entire character rewritten to attempt to make the ship work, but she's so unfathomably bland and uninteresting as a character herself. She lacks depth, she doesn't have the loud charisma of Bulma, or the passion of Videl (that she used to have before Super turned her into a Housewife (tm) she's just...generic female love interest with a gun. Who doesn't have any interesting traits or attributes to her. She's very much there to be forced in a relationship with someone much younger than her. And not only that but Trunks as a character had to be dumbed down and made stupid (I'm referencing present trunks mostly future trunks as a whole in super is a whole other issue in itself) to prop Mai up.

There's just nothing to like about it. It sacrificed both characters for it to be a thing, and that's the worse thing to do for a ship

I just don't like the writing behind it. The relationship itself was poorly written and extremely rushed, there was no natural growth or development between them. And I'm quite sick of the whole 'Tanjiro is the key to fixing this characters trauma', trope, main character or not it's just repetitive and lazy. It's the same issue with Kanao, like how do you have characters who genuinely cared for them being unable to help them for years, then Tanjiro who's known them for 10 minutes comes and says basic shit or he just so happens to resemble someone from their past and now they're fixed and better people. I don't like the 'I can fix them' trope in general it gives me the ick.

And I for sure don't like how the fandom gets with them. If it's not g*nmui mischaracterizing Mui it's the mui tan stans, I don't like how they treat him like he's an extension of Tanjiro and has no life, no other bonds or meaning outside him. And I don't like how it gets fanservice too it literally makes me cringe when I see that shit.

Plus it's just boring in general. I see no special chemistry or nothing. Too vanilla and bland

See, I haven't watched OG DragonBall in years but from what I remember, they were just dumbass somewhat lighthearted goofy villains. They were gag characters used for comedy relief at best

They were never all that important honestly and they definitely faded from relevancy when more iconic, interesting villains were introduced in the story. So what Toriyama and them were thinking when they decided, let's take this older gag character and force her into a shitty, forced nonsensical ship with one of the most popular characters in the Dragon ball franchise, (oh and she's older than his mother! )and try to pass it off like its something good and natural, I'll never know. Firstly, I don't ship muinezu nor do I particularly like it but I will defend it from you hypocritical fujos. You can't come for other ships and talk about how they don't make sense or fit when you can't even name 2 times genya and muichiro have interact in the manga so what gives you the right to act like your ship is any better. Your ship is not above or special. Your ship is equally forced and nonsensical because what chemistry does genmui have? No the reason muinezu gets hate is because their annoying ass shippers like to demonize Zenitsu to lift their mid ship. Don't pin that on other shippers

I'm well aware of how Zenitsu gets treated by some Muinezu shippers and I think putting a character down for the sake of shipping is dumb, but why are we singling them out specifically. Zenitsu gets a lot of hate in general from everywhere in the fandom, not just those shippers. A lot of people just tend write him off as loud and unbearable, and unlikable in general without looking deeper into his character.

And guess what, Zenitsu isn't the only character to ever get hate because of shipping. Tanjiro gets hate because of ships, Giyuu, Inosuke, hell even Rengoku has gotten hate due to shipping and he doesn't even have any canon options

And do I need to bring up the way female characters get hated on for the sake of ships? Aoi gets hated on by tankana fans due to some dumb headcanon that she liked Tanjiro (and Kanao also gets hated for that same headcanon too). Don't even get me started on the femalea get hate for being in the way of precious shonen yaoi. (The way female characters constantly get treated like shit and erased for the sake of mlm ships in general is a whole separate conversation in itself) Shinobu gets hate from sanegiyuu shippers and she's not even Giyuu's love interest nor is giyushino implied in canon. Kanae is hated for the same reason. Mitsuri is hated by people who ship Obanai with other men, I've seen it with my own two eyes. Poor Kanao DEFINITELY gets hate by Tanjiro mlm shippers. InoTan, ZenTan, MuiTan (even some Gentan shippers have been weird about her). Nezuko even gets some hate due to ships (ironically by genmui shippers sometimes). See how this is a universal thing in general in fandoms? It's not relative to one character.

And what did Zenitsu even have to do with the original post? Anon was talking about Muinezu getting hate from genmui shippers which is very much true. Genmui shippers hate muinezu because they have this weird mentality that Genya or Muichiro can't be shipped with other characters for whatever reason despite how little sense their ship makes, despite how their ship isn't even that good. I guess they get so triggered because they feel threatened, idk. I mean if my ship was a big nothingburger...

tbh I'm more of a muinezu shipper I just think its cute but it gets a lot of hate from genmui shippers who always bash it and says it makes no sense, Muichiro is gay, Muichiro doesn't care about Nezuko and they never interacted or some excuse it's really annoying how toxic they are 😮‍💨

there's nothing wrong with shipping muinezu because muinezu is a harmless non problematic ship, even if I don't ship it or really don't see much for it it's not nearly as bad as other ships. I understand some muinezu shippers can be weird which is a turn off but 1. They not the only ship who has weird shippers and trust they pale in comparison to how other shippers act and 2. like...muinezu is a rarepair that only really gets steam on like, tiktok. I rarely see much it elsewhere. It makes you think, if they were so secure in their mid ship, they wouldn't be bothering other people. Why are you pressed over a ship that's hardly even popular, way less popular than yours?

One thing about genmui shippers is that they're the biggest hypocrites ever. Muichiro and Nezuko don't interact sure, but go and ask them to list 3 times Genya and Muichiro interact in the whole manga and they can't do that, why? Because they have one interaction. A normal ass, quick interaction where they interact as normal comrades would. Nothing profound, nothing noteworthy, nothing that shows chemistry. So they're soul mates because they fight Kokushibo together and get cooked in the same fight? Lol yeah okay. Genya took a hit for Tanjiro against Upper Moon 4...where's the hype for that? Tanjiro saved Genya from getting his eyes taken out. Like, a lot of people consider gentan to be only genya ship that makes sense for a reason. Because there's something between them already established, they actually develop a bond on screen. If we're judging the validity of ships based off whether they're shown concern for the other or interact, Genya and Tanjiro are deeply in love I guess. Pretty much everyone in the ds corps are in a relationship with each other lol. Genmui shippers have this weird notion that Genya is somehow special to Muichiro when he really isn't vice versa. Muichiro would've shown concern over any other slayer if they got whooped by Kokushibo be fr, and Genya would've tried to help any other fellow demon slayer who was in danger too. It doesn't take much media literacy to know this

And mind you, Genya and Muichiro both appear in the swordsmith arc...never acknowledge each other's existence once. They didn't acknowledge each other until they were literally about to die. They don't have remotely any relationship development, depth, and established dynamic nothing. So it's mind-boggling why they act so high and mighty like their ship is so good and have this deep, compelling relationship and think they have room to talk about other ships, because what exactly does your ship have over others? What makes it special or stand out? Nothing. There are far better gay ships in kny with more interactions, potential, and a compelling dynamic. Genmui isn't special. If we're gonna go fanon for fanon ship, it looks even more empty and weak if you compare it to ships like gentan, even muitan. Who actually have interactions and development (regardless of said development was good or not).

Also Muichiro is not canonically gay lol. He has no confirmed sexuality nor was it ever hinted at. He's never shown interest or attraction to any character, so don't take them seriously. Its all headcanon. He hasn't shown interest in Nezuko yeah sure, but guess who he also never shows interest in? Guess who he also hardly interacts with. Some people in fandoms get so wrapped up in their own interpretations that they forget theirs isn't the one all be all and not everyone sees characters the same way. None of the canon characters have any established or confirmed sexuality, save for Suma but she's a side character so who really pays attention to her lol.

This got long lol but all in all, continue to ship muinezu and if genmui shippers bother you just cuss them out or ask them to name 5 times genya and Muichiro interact and watch them struggle. Ask them to talk about the ship without including headcanons lol. They're just hypocrites who get triggered over seeing other ships and that's entirely their problem bc they settled for the most mediocre nothingburger yaoi ship with no basis in canon and runs of delusion in existence and they have to make it everyone else's problem.
