the Hermes shrine in hoh is a literal deus ex machina and imo the entire thing could've been written better
personally I think it is worse actually to give sympathetic backstories to Circe and Medusa that emphasize their victimhood and the misogyny they faced and then proceed with making them villains. Like I’m so serious “evil snake lady wants to kill us so we chop off her head” is better actually than “traumatized woman wants to see us renounce her abuser but we refuse so THEN we cut off her head”
I’m so serious when I say people should just forget that Thalia and Jason are siblings because canon never did anything with it
"why did we stop calling rr Uncle Rick?"
why did you call this middle aged man you don't even know uncle in the first place? you don't know him! he doesn't know you!
why would you encourage children into parasocial relationship with a stranger anyway? is that not concerning to anyone else?
seeing heated rivalry people calling their author rr is such a jumpscare, I always think they're talking about rick
I just started watching The Summer Hikaru died, and idk what's going on yet, but it basically sums up how I feel about og pjo characters in the newer books.
#anyways. another reason for why ‘‘show is bad’’ is seemingly an unpopular opinion anywhere that isnt tumblr#is probably bc pjo is actually still quite niche. and the show didn’t really help with this lmao (im laughing at rr as i type this)#(damn bro u destroyed the goodwill of ur work for nothing)#i just think general audiences are mostly indifferent toward pjo/pjotv so they dont really feel the need to really speak on it#unlike with atla and bridgerton and hotd and literally any other series with actual cultural impact and relevancy lmao
<- thinking abt these tags from @sleepyvib-es' post and the thing that gets me about the basically no-reaction reaction from the general public to pjo is that. it could be a franchise with actual cultural impact and relevance like atla and bridgerton and hotd and god forbid, hp. pjo was literally one of the biggest book fandoms from the mid 2000's to late 2010's. it was required reading in a significant number of schools. if you mention pjo to a random person, chances are they do know who it is and/or read the series when they were kids. rick just did an fuckass job of keeping it relevant beyond hoo because instead of keeping the material fresh he kept on falling back on the tropey fanservicey bullshit that he thought it was what the fans wanted. (or maybe he just wasn't good enough. lol) and he was kind of correct because the fans that did eat up that stuff were his diehard, uncritical fans who refuse to mature their tastes and critical thinking in the name of staying loyal to pjo. he's used them as a crutch for so fucking long to push the new series(-es, plural, DEROGATORY), to hate on the movies, to build excitement for the show. but in this age of streaming, pjotv was never going to survive just on the goodwill of the diehard, uncritical niche. it needed to catch the interest of the general public. but ricky rick refused to learn his lesson, and. well. here we are!
edited for addendum: lest we forget, if the numbers are right, pjotv s2 suffered a 63% viewership drop from s1. the general public was potentially interested; the show just simply wasn't good enough to keep them jooked.
Very funny to me that Rick's canon has become so convoluted that it is quite literally impossible to nail down a timeline. So you just have all these various fictional stories that exist within the same universe and reference each other but have discrepencies when it comes to certain details and the order of events and the motives behind those events.
It's almost as if there is no canon anymore and there are just particular subsets of people attached to the version of events and the depictions of particular characters that they find the most compelling. Almost like - almost like - dare I say it.... mythology ?
percy jackson voice Imagine how tired we are. imagine how tired we are
Rick needs to do the 'Let Percy and Nico interact without mischaracterizing either of them' challenge
I JUST MADE SOME BULLSHIIITTT
Saw this on Twitter and wanted to share.
Things I want for Christmas
Rick Riordan to never write a book again
Him to never find out me or any of my mutuals exist
Enough money to move out
Also for Rick to never know about me or my mutuals
It's really a shame that HOO had to be so bad and everything after it had to be worse because I'm just stuck her like Sisyphus forever rolling my rock up the hill of 'trying to arrive at a satisfying conclusion for the PJO series' that will never come, because we already had a satisfying conclusion that was rendered meaningless the very date Rick decided to publish the Lost Hero.
If you say you love Nico di Angelo but don’t hate Rick Riordan, then we are very different people and I don’t trust you.
Sorry not sorry but you’re not a real Nico fan if you like or support the existence of the cacodemons in any way. You’re especially not a real Nico fan if you enjoy referring to them as his children.
