Left Behind

And as I stared at your eyes, I saw the uncertainty of the future But you promised we will be in it together. Then you bid me to sleep So I closed my eyes, with a smile You embraced me as I dreamed peacefully in my mind. Then I awoke in a nightmare. You were gone. Your promises forgotten. You never meant to fight this with me. You always have to be the one who wins. The one who leaves. Me. Left behind, with broken promises and a broken heart. And yet, I waited. I kept around.
