SamBucky Secret Santa 2021 Mid-Exchange Update

Hello and thank you to all the incredible people who have signed up for our exchange this year! It's already shaping up to be an amazing event, and in the interests of keeping it amazing for everyone, we thought now was a good time to check in with everyone and clarify some questions you might still have.

Firstly, the check-in: we promise that this is an absolutely no-pressure, very informal thing. All you have to do is fill in a quick Google form about your progress. We'll ask "do you think you'll be able to finish by the deadline?" If you answer "yes," we cheer for you, everyone's happy, and that's that. If you answer "no" or "I'm not sure," one of the mods will get in contact with you and give you pinch-hitter options.

Since we want this to be a fun exchange for everyone, we ask you to be as honest as possible when filling in the form. There's no shame in being unable to finish your fic in time - life happens, and we more than understand. We just need to know ASAP to arrange a pinch-hitter so your giftee can still get their gift.

Secondly: posting instructions. Some of you have already asked what to do about posting when the deadline arrives, so here are the exact details. Fics are due on the 24th of December, by no later than 23:59 (11:59 PM) in your timezone. We'd like everyone to wake up to a Sambucky gift on the 25th!

Everyone has their giftee's AO3 account - please make sure you use the gift function on AO3 to gift it to them. If you're on our Discord server, please post a link to your fic in the #gifts channel and @ your giftee's Discord ID. If you're advertising your fic on Tumblr, please @ their blog name.

When advertising your gift, please also @ this blog and use the tag #sambuckysecretsanta2k21 on Tumblr so we can find and reblog your work. You can also add your fic to the SamBucky Secret Santa 2021 AO3 collection (sambucky_secret_santa_2k21)

If you aren't sure whether your giftee has received their gift, feel free to reach out to one of us mods, or even to your giftee directly (the secret will be out by then, after all.) If you have any other questions at any point, please don't hesitate to send us an ask or a DM!

And then: he’s stopping, and he’s still holding Bucky’s head on account of the whole preventing-whiplash thing. But they came to a rest suddenly, so he’s accidentally holding Bucky’s head really close to his own, and then he’s kissing him.

(Or: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where everything is the same except that Sam and Bucky keep kissing each other.)

His partner arched his eyebrows. “Christmas movies?”

“Absolutely,” Sam confirmed. “I promised to educate you on twenty-first century entertainment, and I’d be failing miserably if I didn’t show you at least one terrible Christmas movie.”

Bucky blinked in shock. A string of expletives got stuck partway in his throat. He was planning to greet Sam with a stern glare and a fond insult. But this wasn’t… Sam. The portal closed. Sam stood up, his cardboard wings crushed and broken. He rubbed the back of his neck and then looked around, confused. Perhaps a little scared. This definitely wasn’t the Sam that Bucky knew.

Honestly, as places to get stranded on a mission go, this isn’t bad.

The cabin is tucked into the lee of a snow-covered hill, surrounded by pines whose spindly trunks give way to shocks of green. The snow glitters in the rays of the setting sun, and Sam half-expects to see Santa and a troupe of reindeer sled into view at any moment. Under other circumstances, it might actually be kind of romantic.

Unfortunately for Sam, their circumstances are these: only road out of the mountains impassable, thanks to a combination of snow and some rampaging rock monsters that were a real pain in the ass to take care of; wings out of commission, also thanks to said rock monsters; a bruised shoulder that promises to ache bone-deep for days; and Bucky hasn’t said two words to him in the past two hours.

(Or: Sam and Bucky haven’t been dating long, and they still have some teething problems to work through when it comes to seeing each other in danger. Getting stranded on a snowbound mountain in the middle of said problems is just their luck.)

Prompt: Sam and Bucky didn't expect to be called out on a mission on Christmas Eve, but here they are. How will Captain America and the Winter Soldier celebrate the holiday after they dispatch the bad guys?

Summary: Sam and Bucky thought they were spending Christmas Eve at home with Sarah, AJ, and Cass. That is until they're called in to help Kate out with an emergency.

“This doesn’t feel important,” grumbled Bucky, looking around at the circus-themed layer, Sam kind of happy Bucky could express both Sam and Bucky’s own outrage at this entire fiasco. Because Sam and Bucky’s life was absolutely weird and he ended up with the weirdest villains now. Well. Now, they were also getting the overflow of the heroes under Sam, because they were currently dealing with villainous jugglers. Yes, a crime ring of dangerous jugglers who decided to make their own villain squad to commit crimes. They called themselves the Death-Throws.
