had a guy i met not even 10 minutes ago turn to me and go “so i have this mtf friend-” then proceed to tell a story that had absolutely nothing to do with her gender/transition. they’re truly fascinating people
My good friend who's a very supportive pediatrician and raising a trans child was telling me a story about her friend and was like "they're an AFAB nonbinary" and I had to be like. It's great that you're learning the terminology but why are you telling me about your friend's genitals. Is their birth certificate relevant to the story.
I think mostly what young fandom types (and I guess younger people in general) who are very very invested in the idea that “20 is still basically a minor” need to understand is that the feeling of “I’m just a child pretending to be an adult, and everyone else around me is a REAL adult” is DEEPLY universal (and won’t stop, ever, by the way, sorry!) and also is not, like, praxis.
Believe me, I get it, but the self-infantilization needs to stop, especially when you’re trying to engage in conversations about actual children and the harms they can face. Yes, it is scary to wake up and realize you’re 22 and you still feel like you’re 15, but it happens to all of us. You’re an adult. You have to deal with it.
Like I'm nearing 40 and I don't feel significantly different as a person than I did at 20, other than being less depressed.
I know I'm different bc i respond in different ways to things now, but there's not a sense of "ah yes I am become adult" that's for fuckin sure. It's normal. It's okay. So stop infantilizing yourselves about it.
I don't know what made them photograph this home in the dark like this. 1994 stone house in West Jordan, UT has 7bds, 5ba, 6,235sqft, $2.750m. This is a custom-designed home with enough concrete to land your helicopter outside, and if tile makes you smile, this place is loaded with it, in addition to plenty granite and marble.
At first, I didn't realize that the walls were tile. I thought it was wallpaper.
It is, indeed, tile. Well, you don't have to repaint the walls.
The dining room is empty at the moment.
The kitchen is gigantic, but with the cabinets against the wall and no island, it looks empty.
The spacious family room has lots of built-in display furniture.
You can see the details in the tiles up here.
Spacious primary bedroom. I wonder why they chose sliding glass doors, though.
The ensuite has a sunken jetted soaker tub with a couple of steps.
The other bedrooms are also very large.
The finished rec room in the basement has bar.
And, a lounge area.
There's also a full bath.
Also a walk-in closet.
I think that this is a bedroom.
Long driveway.
3 car garage with tons of outside parking.
There's a garden here.
0.9 acre lot. It's odd that there's no pool or patio.
i love the personalities of the wild species we can see here
skunk "i'll do it! i swear to god i'll do it!"
fox "yikes! oh oka-yikes! oh. well maybe i'll ju-yikes!"
that last huge cat "comfy comfy comfy cool"
raccoon *ignoring everyone because they don't give a single fuck*
I also really like how this is largely a meeting of the mammas. Like almost every animal that rolled through there was a mamma with her babby. The only time the mamma raccoon cared about anything is when one of the foxes got close to her little raccoon kit in the background. The rest o the time she was like "what, spray me then skunk, idgaf"
This is actually interesting casting because back when JKR first signed over movie rights - before she was radicalised - she was very, very firm that ONLY British actors could appear in those films, as a way to help revitalise the UK film industry (it used to be very strong and then it got Thatchered. Long story.)
And then she did the America Cash-in ones, but you know, those were American stories. So sure, yeah, cast Americans.
And now here we are, like 25 years later, about 7-ish years post radicalisation, and she's giving her most prized part to an American.
Is that because she genuinely no longer cares about giving British roles to British actors? Or did too many British actors publicly tell her to fuck herself and she didn't like the skills of the remainder? Has she soured on the entire British film industry as too few people supported her? What changed? I'd genuinely love to know to what extent her bigotry in a seemingly unrelated area actually impacted a stance that she so passionately believed in once.
legitimately my first feminist awakening as a ten year old child was realizing that girls were expected to respect “boy stuff” but boys were never expected to respect “girl stuff”
my science fair project in fifth grade was basically i had this printout of a bunch of toys that were stereotypically boy toys and girl toys, and i would have my classmates study the sheet for some short period of time, idr if it was like 30 seconds or a minute or whatever, then put it away and had them recall to me as many toys as they could remember. my hypothesis was officially that boys would remember more boy toys and girls would remember more girl toys, but secretly in my head i knew that girls would probably remember boy toys and girl toys relatively equally but boys would still remember mostly boy toys. and that ended up being the case. and i still remember this 20 years later because it hasn’t fucking stopped. and you know what they didn’t even like my project. participation ribbon. i was a fifth grade feminist theorist and no one cared
