I posted this on reddit, so I thought I’d post it here. With the recent info about the finale that Marlene gave in an interview earlier today, I feel like ‘Twincer’ may just be someone in a mask and not a twin. Who do I think it could be? Melissa. Here’s why I think this could be the route they go:
- Troian and Torrey are the same height (5′7″), have the same eye color, and have the same color hair. A mask obviously would only alter a face so at least AD has to be the same body type and height as Spencer or it would be obvious.
- Masks don’t alter voices or body language so it would have to be someone who can sound and act like Spencer. Melissa grew up with Spencer so she would know how Spencer speaks, things she says a lot, how she walks, hand motions she makes, etc.
- The airport scene could be a meeting between Wren and Melissa because we know they have tons of history together. Melissa is wearing the mask in case anyone they know shows up (like Ezra) and Wren isn’t on a layover. His destination was Rosewood and he was meeting Melissa there to discuss plans.
- “You and your sister look so much alike. Almost like twins.” This line by Mary in 7x01 may not have been a hint at Twincer, but a hint to us that Melissa is the one pretending to be Spencer in a mask.
- In the promo for 7x20 it looks like Spencer has been kidnapped. There are two scenarios for the scenes with her and Mary. (1. Mary may have been kidnapped by Melissa (dressed as Spencer) and thinks the real Spencer is Melissa and attacks her. When she realizes it isn’t the fake Spencer, she stops attacking her and they have an emotional hug. OR (2. Mary is working for Melissa and attacks Spencer to help Melissa which is why she made the twin comment in 7x01.
- The Hanna dream could have been Melissa pretending to be Spencer which would explain why she knew the name AD before Hanna had ever heard it and why she asked “You told the truth right?” about Hanna murdering Charlotte. Obviously Hanna didn’t do it and Spencer knew that so why would Spencer ask that? Also Melissa didn’t bother faking bangs because Hanna was already seemingly delusional and wouldn’t know the difference.
- In the Hanna dream scene, “Spencer” says a quote referencing dreams and experiences. We know that Melissa loves to use quotes from books and uses metaphors every now and then. This could be a very subtle hint that it’s actually Melissa. This also ties into the speaking-similar-to-Spencer-to-not-be-caught scenario.
- If Melissa and Wren are working together it would explain why AD was wearing nursing clothes and giving Jenna tea in 7x11. Melissa would have access to these things because of Wren being a doctor and stereotypically, British.
- If someone wanted to blend in as Spencer, they would probably want clothes she’d actually wear and who would have the best access to Spencer’s clothes and who would fit them best? Melissa.
- In Mona’s apartment, when we are shown her wall of clues, we are shown a black and white photo that the camera focuses on more than the other things. This was a photo of Wren and Spencer kissing. This could be a hint to us as the audience, to keep an eye on those two characters in these last few episodes.
- Melissa and Wren would be able to afford to torture the liars because Wren is in the medical field which pays very well and Melissa has two lawyers as parents. They would be the perfect combo when it comes to being able to afford things like technology, vehicles, etc.
I’m still all for Spencerietta because the masks are annoying, but if it is a mask, I feel like this scenario is the one that makes the most sense. I could be completely wrong and this theory may have been done before, but I’m posting this anyway lol
