I'm making a poll because yesterday I've been shamed by my friends on how I use Spotify. So
how many liked songs do you have on Spotify?
less than 100
100-250
250-500
500-1000
1000-2000
2000-5000
more than 5000
a year ago, i was told that i would be a miracle - something theoretical, i guess
Sometimes being an artist is feeling like a baker seeing a chemist making the deadliest liquid in the world and wishing you could make the deadliest liquid as well but you're a baker, not a chemist, and then you feel like your bread is worthless
If it helps, as a writer with artist friends often feels like being a chemist surrounded by bakers. I'll spend ages coming up with a hypothesis and then lock myself away for weeks or months only to emerge with a small vial of glowing liquid. Yes it took a lot of work, and yes I'm proud that I've created it, but it pales when I look across at the bakers. In the same time, they've made so many delicious things that make living a delight. Chances are they've fed me and kept me from despair while I was locked in my lab. And I envy their wonderful craft.
one very specific thing that i wish i saw more of is cases of charlie being freed from the influence of Them/the throne (either all of the survivors are free from the constant, or they just find some way to free charlie while staying inside of the constant) and charlie doesn't revert back to being the person who she used to be. because- knowing what we know about her- she probably wouldn't. the charlie maxwell killed hasn't risen from the grave just because she's regained what parts of herself she lost.
winona needing to deal with having her sister back, only to feel like she's engaging with a stranger. sure, they know and remember each other... but to charlie, winona's like a time capsule... preserved, just the same as she's always been- only older. but to winona, charlie's barely a flicker of her former self.
she doesn't speak with the same excitement in her tone- or nearly as frequently as she used to. her coy and playful demeanor has been completely replaced with exhaustion. she still smiles, but not in the right way, and never for the right reasons... and she still laughs, but the sound comes out wrong- cynical instead of bubbly.
charlie stares far more than she ever used to... it's difficult to break the habit, after spending so long being practically invisible- an unwanted guest to the mirth of human conversation. and while winona knows its such a childish memory to fall back upon, she can't help but remember the days her little sister was absolutely terrified of the darkness. now night falls, and she doesn't even flinch. she hasn't needed to for a long, long time.
maxwell beating himself over the head for decades- quite possibly longer- forcing himself to suffer for the worst mistake of his life, finding some way to right his wrongs and at the end of it all... he still can never get back the woman he harmed. the woman he killed. and he can only apologize meekly to the ghost left behind, and stay at ground zero after everything he's done. he already knew he would never earn forgiveness, but there was at least a wisp of a chance he could do right by her. that some amount of suffering- his or otherwise- would be enough.
charlie who's a contorted recreation to those who knew her. charlie who's a contorted recreation to herself. she came back wrong. you know how it is.

"Where has all the genuine self-expression gone? Now what used to be authentic subculture is turned into a performance of Aesthetic!" so many posts exclaim, usually concluding that the problem is Capitalism.
I don't disagree entirely, but. The problem is that y'all are so deathly fucking afraid of things Cringe, Weird, and Uncool that anything unmarketable, subversive, or oddball enough to be "genuine subculture" is gross and unacceptable to you.
People wish to see "genuine self expression" that is not a performance or a commodity.
Very well then. I assume you're appreciating and celebrating the dress, style and behavior of somewhat shabby, weird outcasts who firmly refuse to make themselves palatable to you?
I think some of you are forgetting what "subculture" means. If it makes everybody around you think you are cool and look nice, that's missing the point a little bit. That's just...culture!
When people express themselves in a way that is not a performance to appeal to others...
...it is actually very likely that they will...not appeal to you.
"Why can't people be unapologetically themselves, in a way that is of course never "cringy" or too weird or too ugly or uncool? Why can't we have self-expression without performance, in a way that is not boring to me and that doesn't weird me out?"
Do you see the problem?
There are still robust, thriving subcultures full of unique fashion and artistic expression...
"Ah, but you see, that one is personally unappealing to me!"
That's the Point, you fools!
I see how people talk about non-binary youths with hair dyed in funny colors. But there is such a young person of indeterminate gender I see sometimes on my college campus with "Trans Liberation Now!" and a bunch of other symbols and slogans hand-painted on their jacket, and they are a million times more "Punk" than anyone with simply piercings and spiky chokers
I was thinking about the incredibly cruel phenomenon of taking photos of strangers without consent and uploading them to websites so others can mock them, in the vein of "People of Walmart" and other such things, and when looking it up, I was disturbed to see how many of them are just 1) a fat person is in public (wow!) or 2) a (perceived) man is being obviously gender non-conforming
they are just existing. probably at a more advanced level than you.
