ok i need to talk about the difference in nikola’s tone here. the first time he says this he sounds so shocked, like he can’t believe sciu would actually do this, even though it’s far from the first time he’s been betrayed or that his creation(s) have somehow turned on him or been hijacked from their original purpose for something more evil. earlier in the episode while he’s pouting over being fired from sciu he even says “my interstellar death ray will probably be used as an instrument of war” but when it actually happens with his containment nodes he still can’t believe it😭

and then it sinks in, and now he’s angry— beyond furious, really— because he should’ve learned by now, he should’ve known better. he can’t trust people to do the right thing, he can’t trust humanity to be the best version of itself. if there’s any way for a scientific advance to be misused or abused, it will, and nikola is powerless to prevent his own inventions from falling into that same trap no matter what he does. also this scene perfectly sets up his “why i hate people” speech that was cut from the episode but remains canon in my heart
