if you've made this joke already fuck off
star trek would be the ideal fictional universe to get trapped in because you'd explain your situation and they'd be like yeah makes sense. no further questions. fortunately we can use the mysterious warp signature emitting from this system's icy moon to counterface with the solar radiation and slingshot you back home
hi! yay-bunnies here. i got banned unfortunately. can u spread my bunnyspores?
I witnessed this moment and was inspired to go home and tidy up my living space
all you new fandom members need to QUIET DOWN oh my god you're going to get us KILLED. we're happy to have you but if you keep talking about BULLSHIT like PUBLISHING fanfic for MONEY, Anne Rice is going to come back from the dead to KILL US. looking at YOU, maurauders fans, heated rivalry fans, byler fans...out here giving out interviews to news channels SHUT UP. we're going to have to start setting off firecrackers to keep the rent down.
For the most part authors and corporations are willing to look the other way where fanfic is concerned. As soon as you start trying to make money off someone else's intellectual property, that's going to change. You don't want to be the test case for Finding Out about everyone's Fucking Around. You don't want to be taken to court and sued for enormous chunks of money you don't have by a team of lawyers who charge more per hour than you make in a week.
"Oh, please! No one cares! Everyone does it! Just look at [Example]!" Yeah, "no one cares" until suddenly they do. It happened with music piracy (including a 12 year old girl getting sued) and it will eventually happen with monetized fanfic.
Sure, you can say that "oh, but I can prove my story is transformative enough to be fine," but do you have any idea how expensive that will be? You'll need lawyers; lawyers doing a LOT of research. You'll need proof and receipts and all kinds of shit and the case will probably drag on for years so the author/publisher/corporation can drain you of as much money as they possibly can. Even if you "win," the amount you lose will vastly outweigh anything you might have made by selling your little fanfic.
But hey, if you think you "deserve" to make money off your stories, go ahead. Just don't be surprised when the fic community doesn't rally to support you when you're in the crosshairs. Because most of us know better and are not going to get dragged down with you, you entitled sacks of stupid.
Also, as others have pointed out: this isn't just "new" fans, I can think of some who've been entrenched for years and still think they deserve to make money off their shit.
toph in the new atla movie...can i get a hell yeah
Kevin still visits the grave.

this is basically what was happening on chorus while she was hanging out with epsilon right guys
i hate that diet culture means all the tasty drinks everywhere are loaded with stevia now. this isn't even a stance about health, I just think it tastes so fucking bad
stevia is cross-reactive with a common environmental allergen: ragweed! if you've been drinking your fun little drinky drinks & have been feeling off there's a chance you're actually allergic!
I can't have artificial sweeteners because they give me migraines. I can't have stevia because I have an anaphylactic reaction. this new wave of "make everything 0 sugar" coming back into fashion could literally kill me if I'm not careful. nothing is safe, nothing is sacred, if I'm getting a little treat, better check the ingredients in case they changed em! :)
*head in hands* it's like ragweed??? Ragweed?? Oh my god everything makes so much sense
Ty for sharing that I had no idea
I like when Pheidole ants do the thing with the head
I was curious about how accurate this is and am pleased to report it is extremely accurate
@animals-with-fan-art
people love the social cantagion/"only contagious mental disorder" model of restrictive disordered eating because it's a very clean comfortable pleasant way to ignore the fact that disordered eating is quite often just the most logical response to being inundated with the message that fatness is morally and medically repugnant, socially unacceptable, sexually repulsive, a fate worse than death -- and you can see this in the very way people express concern for the visibly anorexic, lamenting that they "weren't even that fat" and "didn't even need to lose weight." these are things you will never, ever hear if you're fat and your anorexia almost kills you, btw
like i think that "role modeling" and the glorification of dangerous thinness play a part in this, i do think it's irresponsible to model this behavior for young women, but placing the whole weight of disordered eating as a phenomenon on the shoulders of ariana grande or any similar figure falsely locates the problem within the superstructure. your average teenage girl is being put less at risk by waifish starlets than they are by constant, grinding, "well-meaning" daily fatphobic jabs about food and their weight by their parents, teachers, doctors, siblings, classmates, friends etc. and moreover by the general observation that life is actually made crueler and materially harder for fat people
