Day 08 - Makorra
Watched untill episode 5
So I started the second season and at first I was a little bit uneasy with Korra's temper, mainly because it was affecting her relationship with Mako.
I was thinking that the writers missed all the progress she made throughout the first season, but then I realized she was facing practically the same problem. Her freedom was at stake again, people telling what she had to do without asking what she wants or what she thinks and Mako got caught in the middle of those things.
She started to be confused, worse then that, Korra didn't know in who she could relay on. Tenzim wouldn't let her breathe, her father had hidden important information from her, and it was in her uncle that she saw an opportunity to truly grow as avatar, but then, she found herself alone when realized she couldn't trust him.
Plus, her behavior towards Mako wasn't right btw. In the first season one always balance the other decisions. Fr, they don't seem the same characters. Ugh
I will make a post about that 🤔
Mako, in one of their discussion said: "what's your problem with sides? Why you always thought that I'm against you?"
One of the differences between Aang and Korra trajectory as avatar is that Aang didn't have to pick a side to defend, he had one only target, but Korra always had to make a choice, and making that, she unleashed a lot of things. Good and bad.
Even the bad ones was necessary tho.
She was constantly searching answers in and with Mako, but he didn't know how to answer as well, at the other hand he always said, and affirming, that he was on her side no matter what...
First season by the way ↑
And the problem start here... Mako characterization.
At the beginning he was in the Avatar side, they go through a lot since the first season as a team... But then, suddenly he chooses his duty as a police man over all of this?
First of all... They put his character in a position to create conflict with Korra's. In the first season we never seen him being interested in serve the police or the city, he had one and only thing in mind. Being at Korra's side even if this cost his life and do the right thing...
Is so wrong that they put Mako in this position, and worst, reaveling or not Korra's plan, any wouldn't affect his job in any way. He was coerced because of his closeness to the Avatar, but nothing forced him to do it... Even worst than that... Reaveling such a thing would put a target in him too.
Anyways...
It's seems like they throw away everything his character was created to be. A loyal man that gives his live for those he love the most.
What a waste in here guys.
