DISTRICT 11 ORANGE DRESS REDRAW

When I’ve started “Everlark Outfits” series I was avoiding Instagram (I have very mmmm strange relationships with this platform) so I haven’t posted my illustrations there. And now I need to redraw my old illustrations before posting because they look bad lol (it’s normal for artist to start hate their illustrations right after it’s done and it becomes even worse with the time). And I already redraw many of my old illustrations to post it on Instagram but I didn’t post it here because I thought “why would people want to look at something they already saw but a bit fixed”. So I didn’t post it separately and only post it all together with all first book outfits. But gosh, that’s my blog, why can’t I post whatever I want to post lol. Sometimes it’s weird in my head 😅. So here’s my redraw of D11 outfit (the square one) that I did recently. I actually still like the old version but I have changed the way I draw Peeta and overall… it just doesn’t look good among my recent illustrations. Funny fact: my patrons on Patreon saw my rough sketch for this redraw and might have noticed that Katniss looked pretty cheerful there. But I decided to save the mood from the old illustration and here she is, looking concerned and sad. Lol.

What do we know about this outfit: I go to my compartment and let the prep team do my hair and makeup. Cinna comes in with a pretty orange frock patterned with autumn leaves. I think how much Peeta will like the color. <…> As the train is pulling into the District 11 station, Cinna puts the finishing touches on my outfit, switching my orange hairband for one of metallic gold and securing the mockingjay pin I wore in the arena to my dress. <…> I can hear the anthem beginning outside in the square. Katniss’ story. A story in which a huge aspect was her finding Peeta and falling in love with him in midst of class difference, injustice, poverty, dehumanization and a war. If you boil the series down to it’s very basics, it’s about love and hope and compassion and sacrifice being the key to survival and the key to moving on and Peeta is essential to all those aspects but it’s Katniss’ story. And I mean, at the end of the day, each of our lives are all our own story. It just so happens every story deeply intertwines with the people we love. It’s her story but Peeta is fundamental and essential to it.
