Eragon aesthetic
eragonargetlam:
“But picturing it through my memories just isn’t the same, you have to live it to understand it and you have to try as many things as possible while you can!” He crossed his arms and tried to give her a stern stare, but failed pretty quickly and allowed his hands to fall down again. “Who knows? Yet someone has to figure out why or how we even got here to begin with. That’ll be something once they do but I don’t think anyone’s in a rush either.” Saphira was right about that part; back home everyone had to rely on each other to get through the winters, food cuttage and other natural disasters. It was either trade or hope you can find it on your own, families living together for generations inside the same house. Here it felt like people his age couldn’t wait to move out and mostly they didn’t move back with their parents until a generation later. Everything was upsidedown to him. “That doesn’t sound like a bad idea, keep to it in case things turn badly and fine, let’s trust our guts with this. What’s that supposed to mean?” He gave her an offended stare this time, hoping to keep it up.
“Fine! How about you take me to the woods after that movie is over. We can find a muddy road and walk it for a while so that I can relive this awful experience with my own two feet.” Her voice sounded a bit repulsive, but it didn’t stop her from shaking her head at Eragon and his cheerful attitude towards all of this. At least he was keeping his head up, something she had troubles to do herself. “I don’t see why they aren’t spending money on that type of research. If we came here one way there has to another way back, or are they just lazy? I’m sure there has to be some people here who... rely on that science stuff, it’s science right?” Science was another thing completely new to her, as it hadn’t even been invented during their time and all that jumbo went over her head most of the time. She preferred to avoid it than confront it and hopefully she could keep it that way. “It means that you have left me to educate me on my own, it’s not very helpful if I have to be honest. I really want to start reading some more.”
eragonargetlam:
“Trust me, these roads are so much easier to get by on, you wouldn’t have wanted to walk on those muddy ones. Then again, if we leave the city I can show you how bad things were. It’s awful being stuck on the ground all the time, I miss the air. It really isn’t.” Eragon shook his head at her, putting a hand on his waist as he stared at a person walking by with a phone up their face. “I really thought people were more social than this, actually, seeing how close and open people were in my home town. But then again, it was smaller.” Saphira’s comment made him chuckle lightly and nod along, she was catching on just fine and he was thankful for that. “Sure, that sounds like a good plan. Heard about Ant-Man? People say it’s good, I have a coworker who watched it with their brother the other day. You’re doing quite good with that language skill of yours.” He nudged her shoulder in a playful manner, ending it with a wink.
“You don’t have to show me anything, Eren, I’m all fine. I can picture it well enough from your whiny thoughts alone. Or have you already forgotten about our connection?” Another thing she missed, even if she liked being able to openly speak to people. “We will get back up one day, we can’t be stuck here forever that’s just insane.” Saphira placed her hands in her pockets, feeling her heart sink a bit while listening to Eragon’s smaller rant. “I understand, I guess people are simply more occupied by stuff around them. They seem... more independent than before, if I have to say so myself. Maybe we should just grab every member and make our own town?” She finally let out a laugh at the thought, wondering what mess that would bring. “Do you really have to ask me that? No, I haven’t but I’d say it’s worth a shot if it takes away a few hours from our lives.” She wrinkled her nose, playing a bit offended by his words. “Not thanks to you, you know.”
eragonargetlam:
Eragon shrugged, as he wasn’t too sure of why people found it amusing to stare at a couple of old rocks. “History, I guess, people like to know how things looked like in the past. I mean, there’s quite the change compared to our home and now, don’t you think? Cold, harsh… depending on where you live.” He dragged his foot over the pavement. “Like we didn’t have set roads like these, shame since this is easier to walk on.” At her next question he shook his head, turning around to face her. “Unless we watch something foreign, there’s no reading so don’t worry. There’s two types: one playing on this big screen, like the TV but bigger, the other is a live peformance. You are free to pick and I’ll take you there.” He ended it with a nod, calculating the distance between the cinema and here while he waited for an answer.Â
“I never had to walk on those awful, muddy roads like you did so I wouldn’t know. I guess you can speak more for it, but everything is so closed off around here. People walk around each other, they don’t talk or even look another’s way. It a bit of a shame, it can’t be easy to connect with others that way.” Saphira had never been in much need of friends or the like, as long as she had Eragon by her side. However her human mind made her wish for a few other relationships to lean on and the close minded humans around here didn’t make it any easier on her part. “How about we stare at that dumb screen first and then we go from there, I’m sure I have spotted a movie while waiting for you to come back home again. Have you heard about any good ones? I assume that’s the term used.”
eragonargetlam:
Something fun? There were tons of fun things to do in old Québec, and the thought alone made him scratch his chin as he kept walking forward with Saphira by his side. “Well that depends on what type of fun. They have a museums up ahead, a few restaurants, we could go to the park, old ruins… or we could just jump in between the shops around here and look at ugly clothes, that always beats it.” Eragon shrugged and placed his hands inside his pockets, feeling the plastic candy wraps against his fingers. It was still odd to him to see Saphira this way, but he was no one to complain as he was simply just happy about having her with him. The more the two of them could do together, the better. “Oh and the theatre!” he quickly added, “or the cinema, each on their own.”
Saphira tapped her chin, hurrying on with her steps to catch up with her roommate. She hated the fact that he was now both taller and faster than she was, it took away so much of her former charm. Oh how she would offer her scales to a day back as herself again. Burn a few sheeps, bathe in a lake and not worry about a thing in the world. “Old ruins? Why would that be a thing?” she asked, feeling confused. If you didn’t need a building, wouldn’t it be wiser to just tear it down? “We can go look at that, sounds nice enough. Do you like the theatre?” He felt almost a bit too excited about all of this. “Do you have to do any reading in there?” As long as she could skip that part, anything was fine with her.Â
eragonargetlam:
“Isn’t this great?” Eragon put his hands out in the air, only missing the person next to him with an inch. His eyes darted between the stores at each side of him, crawling with people even at early afternoon. Rue Saint-Jean was one of those places he could wander for hours if time was enough, the people always caught his interest among the many objects hinted at inside big winsows trying to lure shoppers inside. Thankfully he knew better than to spend his money on things with no need, but yet his pockets had a tendency to burn a bit extra while walking by. His sweet tooth usually won, forcing him inside the nearest candy shop – one he had just left behind him. Eragon put his hands to his sides again, moving his stare over at the person he had decided to drag along. “Something you want to take a look at? There’s countless of stuff waiting up ahead.”
Saphira let out a grunt as an answer, eyes peering through the mass of people coming their way out and in of these stores. It wasn’t often she decided to take a look around town, mostly seeing as her reading skills were a bit... off. She knew a few words and letters, what to look for and what not, but it didn’t get her very far and thus she kept to the places she belonged. However, when having Eragon with her it was another story as he was fully capable of going right and left without having to worry a bit. Saphira jumped to the left once Eragon’s arm came swinging and she gave him a stern stare, only to later shake her head and focus up front. “Like what things? You know I’m not as fluent with this city as you are but... maybe we can look at something fun?” She decided to pull him a smile, his cheerful attitude winning her over.
She laughed. “I do let it happen to me, but usually I brush it off.” She held her smile. “You’re pretty fierce. What’s your name?”
“That’s a good way to go. You should always take pride in your good qualities, and develop the negative ones. There’s simply no right and wrong to how other’s view you as everyone sees things differently.” Her pride could be seen as both a negative and positive trait, as it sometimes took over most of her thoughts and speech. However, that was who she was and she was not to change it. “I’m Saphira, and you?”
“Do you ever let that happen to you? The more fear I can strike into a person, the better.”
“I do,” he gave an unreadable expression and a smile. “I’ve lived there once, not so long ago. I’m sure most of us,” his eyes had a slight glint in them, shimmering with past, but his face was firm and invulnerable. “Have been to places you feel an… attachment to.”
Lucas grinned after, and continued with, “Well, we all need to. I’m not especially new here but I haven’t made many friends either. So you want to run away with me?”
She let out a hum, dwelling on the younger human’s words. “Québec is the biggest town I have even been to, actually... I’m more used to the wide lands, trees and well... more freedom to move wherever. It makes me miss home a bit.” A light blush soon covered her cheeks at his question, biting her lip. “It does sound like fun, as long as you lead.”
“In the city,” Lucas said gleefully. He wanted to flinch. He hated the city. “I don’t know, but we all have to relax on the weekends, no?”
“Oh!” she felt her curiosity grow a bit as Lucas spoke. “I do need to get out more, I think. I haven’t got to know a lot of people since I arrived... do you know the city well?”
Lucas raised his eyebrows. “Well, I think running away is the only option. Who said you were such a party-wrecker?” He opened the latch to the window and began to climb out. “Honestly, it’s just a little sneak-out. We’ll have some fun. Steal some things, crash some parties. What do you say?”
“Eh well, I have never been to a party outside the Society before”, Saphira replied carefully. She knew Eragon was asleep in the room not too far away and it wasn’t like her to sneak out without telling him about it first. She was still unstable with words and if she got lost she would be lost. “Where would we go?”
My mother’s side of the family was French, a long long time back. We’re truly British, but names have a way of staying with people, don’t they?
I’m terribly sorry, I don’t believe I caught your surname.
Right, I bet that comes in handy in this city. Names are quite odd that way, surnames don’t work the same everywhere I have come to notice. Some have names like yours, while others have a mix of their parent’s names as their last.
Oh, might be because I never told you. It’s even odder than my first -- Scales.Â
Dorian. Dorian Devereux. That’s a beautiful name, I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before.
Your last name seems like it fits this town, it has that strange accent to it. Thank you, it’s quite uncommon I’d think but it’s very dear to me and... my father.Â
It certainly is. Winter has its charms, but summer has a loveliness all its own.Â
May I ask your name?
Winter in this town is a magic on its own, a bit cold but the nice shops make up for that. Summer on the other hand... I like being around the docks this time of year, the breeze is just brilliant.Â
Saphira, and you?
Oh, hello. Can I help you?
Me? No, I don’t think so. I was um... looking at some birds behind you. They look very tast-- it’s nice seeing summer back in town.Â
Yes! They’re quite the ride once you start to get into them and most of the time you don’t have to read. It’s a moving adventure that ends after two hours or so. It’s kind of insulting in its ways, Orik isn’t even in it I think? But that’s also what makes it fun, we can laugh at how wrong everything is! But you did enjoy your time once we got past that, don’t try to talk your way out of it. Thanks, really nice. A map sounds good either way. But we can’t fly, so roll with it.Â
You have been here longer than me, of course you find these modern things more thrilling. Having it end that quickly sounds exhausting, how do you fit every element needed? What? Now I’m confused. Why wouldn’t he be? Maybe, as long as it doesn’t make me want to throw your TV out. Fine, but the trees had houses on them so there’s a difference. Are you suggesting we should roll to our destination?Â
How can I? Though yes, I wish our movie had been better, we could have gone back for a while that way if so. Have I even showed it to you? It’s hilarious! Oh like it didn’t feel marvelous to you too. A hike? Sure, I don’t see why not? I’ve been outside town a few times and walked through the woods, I can get us around I think. It sure is faster but not as enjoyable, it makes me feel a bit lazy from what we’re used to. It’s a different experience.Â
Movie... right, those moving pictures everyone keeps talking about. No, you have not showed it to me yet and I’m not sure if I dare to watch it the way you speak about it. I had already spent most of my time sailing over trees, I was okay with it. You think? You’re not really that famous for thinking so perhaps we should bring an actual map with is just in case. It’s much faster to fly though, we would be there in just a day or so.Â
