Love on the L Train
Back at it—sipping on the best oat milk cappuccino at Bel Ami. It’s 76 degrees and pouring rain in typical East Coast summer fashion, and I’m very thankful I swapped my outdoor bistro table for one inside just before a flood of people came in.
I feel like I’m in my romantic summer era and cruising through life doing all the simple things that bring me joy—lots of weaving, reading, shopping, and walks through Central Park.
Lately, I’ve been spending more time in Brooklyn and have discovered that my ideal man resides there. I’ve always been attracted to tall, artsy, stylish guys—and I’ve officially found the secret garden for that genre of man.
When I say I fell in love yesterday on the L-train to Brooklyn, I’m not even slightly being dramatic. This man will live rent-free in my mind until the day I die. He was tall, handsome, and simply perfect. His arms looked like they’d been chiseled by Michelangelo himself and were covered in the sexiest tattoos.
He was probably 6'4", wearing carpenter-esque pants, dress shoes, and a skin-tight white tank top. I don’t think I’ve ever been that physically attracted to someone in person before—it’s a moment I will forever cherish.
This mystery subway man sat next to me at one point on the ride, and I stared as much as I could without looking like a psychopath. We got off at the same stop, and as we were walking, I felt him slow down. I swear I thought he was going to say something—my heart was racing like no other.
I haven’t felt like that since high school, and honestly, I didn’t think I ever would again. Even though we never spoke, I’m encouraged by the fact that I had those feelings at all.
After four-plus years of being single and genuinely having no desire to date, I was starting to wonder if I was asexual. So I’m genuinely excited—and hopeful—that I can actually fall in love again, and experience the kind of love and passion I’ve been missing.
I don’t know if I’ll ever meet my L train hottie again, but I really do hope our paths cross one day.
Love is in the air this summer—and I’m ready to take a deep breath in.

Secret Inheritance
Here I am, sitting at an outdoor bistro table on the Upper East Side, sipping my oat milk cappuccino while trying to track down mysterious inheritance money from a grandfather I never knew. I feel like that statement officially makes me an Upper East Sider.
The reality of the situation? I’m jumping through all these hoops to access an ominous account I just discovered—with a balance of fifty dollars. But hey, a girl can dream. Ten grand would be pretty nice right now, considering my bank account is getting dangerously low.
I miss having money. I used to have a good amount of it when I was selling real estate in California, but I gave that all up to chase a dream at design school in New York City. I’d die for a trip to the coast of Maine to unwind with a limoncello spritz, listening to waves crash on the shore. I’d take my sister, of course—I think I might owe her? She didn’t get a letter about secret inheritance money like I did, and being the kind and loving older sister that I am, I’d sponsor her.
I’ve always dreamed of a glamorous Upper East Side life—rooftop galas every weekend like in Gossip Girl and summering in the Hamptons. Maybe that manifestation is coming true. Then again, with my luck, I’m chasing down fifty bucks. Time will tell.
I’ve been single for a really long time now—I’m talking four years—and lately, I’ve been feeling very lonely. I want to fall in love this summer, but I also know what I deserve... and men suck.
Sometimes I wonder if the love I imagine in my head even exists—if it’s something that can actually be found. I could really use a sign from the universe—or whatever higher power is out there—that I’m getting close to finding my soulmate. I feel like I’ve been doing everything right, but there’s no glimmer of hope.
My chest and throat are tightening as I write this. My last relationship put me through the wringer, and with my lack of romance these past few years, I’m starting to wonder if maybe I deserve the hell I went through.
I’ve always been an optimist and a romantic, but lately, I’ve been feeling cynical and hopeless.
So, like I said—ten grand would be pretty nice right now.
