I got into a major tussle today at the dog park. I was grabbed and shaken by the neck a few times. Took many tense seconds to encourage the other dog to let me go.  I received several punctures, lacerations, skin fascia separation, bruised larynx and such. I can’t bark or wear a collar. I’m a bit shut-down while the experience sinks in. This is my first real altercation with another dog, and I realize I am a lover, not a fighter!

While puncture wounds don’t look like much, they tend to be more dangerous and there can be a lot more damage hidden under the skin. Punctures are dangerous because abscesses can form and cause major infection problems.  Considering the violence of this interaction, I went to the vet right away!  They shaved me! The vet said I was very, very lucky.

I am on antibiotics and doggy NSAIDs for 2 weeks, and can’t go out to play. I’m getting warm and cold compresses and a check-up in a week.

I don’t blame the other dog or owner.  I am a very energetic guy, and my excitement can offend other dogs. I am glad I had my break-away collar from PetSafe on! It was torn off in the first seconds which takes about 25lbs of pull! If it didn’t come off, I could have been choked.

Thanks to Ryan and Cash-Money, who’s intervention may have saved my life!  We’ll see you all in a week or two!
