I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore. To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in. I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them. And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon. We’ve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around…

This year has been Wild! I had to move out of the city and work to finish final year of college at home which was so stressful especially when your working with an amazing partner but trying to communicate over like 5hr phone calls on dodgy WiFi, but finishing and graduating without getting to see her or any of our classmates.
I haven't seen any of my friends since July, although ive been to see my dentist 8 times this year and orthodontist 3 times not fun trips but hey i can nearly say that I've seen my dentist more times this year than my friends 🙃
And my grandad being brought into hospital and deteriorating so much that we had to fight so hard just to bring him home, but nearly being too late and that he's now bed bound needing round the clock 24hr care most of which being done my by gran, while the rest of us try and help but it being a risk coz covid.
And honestly one of the few few things that has made my 2020 bareable is the wonderful album Folklore, I have listened too it id say at least once a day since is release, if its just like a 5min break or having it on while I fall asleep it has been the most constant comfort of this horrific year and when I seen this post today I honestly just sat down and wept because I know that the next few months are going to be hard too but I feel like I've just been given the best gift ever another aid from this amaizng artist just to help me through the next rough patch ❤
So I've been drinking water like you guys said.
Didn't realize there was this much peeing involved. 0/10 dehydration is more convenient
helping other people does make me feel better tho
this is actually a legit mental health strategy!
when you’ve got so many problems and/or such big problems that you can’t solve any of them, you can fall into learned helplessness (where you learn from repeated failures that you can’t ever succeed, and so you don’t try anymore, even once you’re in a situation where you can succeed)
so if a friend shares one of their problems with you and you can help them with it, even if it seems small or irrelevant compared to your own issues, you can prevent or reduce your learned helplessness (because yay, you succeeded! not totally helpless!)
also, both empathy and compassion can help to reduce the distress of those who are struggling and help to facilitate problem-solving and emotion-soothing behaviours (two important adaptive coping strategies… we cope as groups, not just as individuals) from others, so it can often be a case of “a problem shared is a problem halved”
if you feel better in any way after helping your friends, then it’s not as simple as “valuing their mental health over yours”. social interactions aren’t always give-and-take transactions, you might both get something good out of it :)
and on the flip side, there’s absolutely no shame in saying “feel free to rant, I’m listening, I just don’t have the spoons to respond / give advice right now” :)
i always thought i’d be the therese of a love story. turns out i’m meant to be abby.
I’m always intrigued by my capacity to love middle aged actresses that I’ll probably never meet because I literally can’t even look at a woman in real life (-:
Anyone else's life been kinda crazy for like the last month or two, but to pick yourself up you decide to watch "Carol" at 1am but you just end up crying for 2hrs because how can a movie be so perfect and just so not nearly enough, anybody??..... no just me 😅
I started listening to Hamilton way back in 2016 according to my Spotify 😂 and i loved it, i loved it so much I swore that I wouldn't watch a bootleg of it, there was something about it, and while its hard to grasp the whole show without seeing it that didn't stop me from listening to it again and a again and loving it more and more each listen a new favourite line a new favourite song.
Well today this morning at 8am I got up and for the first time watched Hamilton, words cannot explain what this meant to me, knowing I will probably never get to see it in person and loving it too much to watch a bootleg, this recording means the absolute world 🥰

“…Because River Song always insisted on looking so alive.”
Really wish we could go back to a time when movies were worth something as long as they were fun to watch
Like I mentioned the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot (the all-female one) to someone bc i had a lot of fun watching that movie!! And they were like “that movie wasn’t that good it was just a comedy… It didn’t win anything did it?” like bitch …. The first Ghostbusters movie wasn’t fucking good either but I’m still sitting here watching some dudes chase a ghost through a library to some weird synth music so maybe movies don’t have to win awards to be worth watching
Not done.
When I ask people about their fave movies I always ask for two:
1) Which movie do you just fuckin. Watch over and over again (mine is Groundhog Day)?
2) Which movie do you recommend to other people/to me specifically?
Like. These are two VERY different questions. I know my bff from high school is obsessed with the star wars prequels like SHE KNOWS THEY AINT GOOD. I asked my roommate the first question and they were like “fuck dude I just love Mrs doubtfire.” Like yeah you’re not gonna be telling every person you meet to watch Mrs doubtfire! But it’s okay if it’s a movie you like some movies are FUN
There’s an Ebert review, I believe, of the Brendan Frasier Mummy film. It basically goes, “k, there’s only one nice thing I can say about this movie, and that’s … I enjoyed pretty much every minute of it.”
Like. Was it a cinematic masterpiece? No. Do you want to pop some popcorn and put it on while you hang out with your D&D group or whatever? Hell, yeah. It’s fun.
“There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased.”
