Anabel and Mare talking in a one shot please. I canât wait for war storm and whoâs better to make this fanfic then the queen herself of red Queen fanfics???
Aye, I should be studying for my finals tomorrow but I got the muse!!!!!!!! (((((: Gather round children⊠itâs story time⊠((((((:Â
âI now see what my grandson saw in you.âÂ
I flipped around to see Anabel Leralorn standing behind me. Her uniform was clean and pressed. I feared that if she moved in anyway, it would crack and fall off her. I couldnât imagine how I looked to her, grimy and dirty from my training. I raised my chin at her though, and said, âAnd I see exactly who you are too.âÂ
Her brow raised in surprise at my tone, and I see the glint of the small tiara she wears, and Iâm forced to remember that she was a queen, long before Elara was one. But Iâve killed one queen, I canât imagine that killing another would be that much harder. She approaches me like a cat would another, her eyes hard. I had seen that same look on Ca- Tiberias, Iâd seen the same look on his face once before too. She narrows her eyes at me and says, âAnd what do you see Miss Barrow?â
âI see a woman so desperately holding onto the past, that sheâll put her favorite grandson up as a target for everyone to shoot at, so long as the traditions sheâs used to stick around a little longer.â I smirk, feeling my scars pull in my neck. I could care less whether or not she obliterates me on the spot. If she does, she starts a war with the Guard, and with Montfort. For the moment, Iâm untouchable. I relish in that too, and feel my lips pull into an even bigger smile where her eyes go cold.Â
âYou have a nerve that I dare say is dangerous for your own health and wellbeing.â She whispers, her voice so dangerously low, that I can almost hear the cracking of rocks underneath it. Straightening my shoulders even further, I say, âMaybe thatâs why he had such an interest in me. Boys seem to like it when they find a girl who does the opposite of what theyâre used to. They like games that are dangerous.â
âWhich is why he will not be speaking with you anymore.â She warns, the side of her lips twitching into a half smile as she continues, âHe knows that you are simply a distraction. His final goal is in front of him, and your are simply a hurdle he has to get over. I will push him over it if I have to.âÂ
âHe might trip over me then,â I reply with a laugh, and then shaking my head say with a smirk that makes my cheeks ache, âYour grandson is twenty-one years old now. Surely he can handle himself.â
âBoys make hasty decisions at that age. They think with a different body part than their brain. Calâs judgement is simply impaired.âÂ
âI donât think Iâm the one causing that impairment,â I reply with a shrug, âIn fact, I personally thought he was thinking very clearly when he was with us. Maybe, just maybe, being here is clouding his judgement.âÂ
She laughs at me, and the slight tinge of hope in my voice. I want to beat myself into the ground for it too. She shakes her head as she goes to pass me, her eyes like gold as she replies, âYou stupid girl, he was born for this. He is a king through and through, it courses through his veins, itâs in his very blood. You were a passing fancy, a little bit of excitement. Now the real show begins, youâre time on stage is over, I suggest you find your way off of it. Let the real players take over.â She starts down the hallway then, her shoulders back, proud in her belief that sheâs successfully destroyed me. I wonder if she knows that Tiberias came looking for me last night, that our tussle in the sheets had been nothing if not electrifying. I wondered if she knew that I still had him wrapped around all my fingers. I grinned to myself as she walked away, and then said, âYou stupid woman, we just finished the first part of the play, youâre a little late to the show.âÂ
