@sarebearcares
some problems are so humiliating the only solution is to solve them yourself and then continue to never talk about it
downside of this is you can never tell anyone when you’ve made huge progress or had a huge breakthrough bc you’re either keeping the problem to yourself or you’re pretending the problem is already solved and then rapidly working to make that statement true by the time anyone checks
Marriage is good and weddings are great but I hate modern wedding culture. You don’t need to bankrupt yourself to have a nice wedding. Stop supporting the wedding industry, stop buying outrageously priced engagement rings, stop spending 10k on a dress you’ll only ever wear once.
Coming from a professional event planner - weddings are egregiously expensive because companies openly raise prices at the word “wedding.”
Pro Tip - Never drop the word wedding while planning if you don’t need to. Most things can be for “an event you’re planning.” This obviously doesn’t include things like the venue, DJ (who needs specific wedding songs), and the wedding dress company if you’re going that route versus just buying a dress.
For my wedding I got “discounted” cupcakes, flowers, decor, bridesmaids dresses, groomsman attire, and invitations. I did this by either searching for things that aren’t marketed for weddings or not telling the companies I was working with it was for a wedding. Because honestly, most of the time they don’t need to know why you’re ordering.
These companies target people planning their weddings and markup everything the second “wedding” is said. And it’s said often because people assume the services change exponentially for weddings. They absolutely do not.
The best example are the cupcakes I had for my wedding. I used a designer cupcake store in town instead of spending $1000 on a wedding cake. If you place a large order of cupcakes with a cake tree for display - it costs about $150 for 100 (which is what I did). When you order their “wedding” package - the price raised to a $700 base for 100 cupcakes. The only other perk includes a “tasting.” Forget that. Our tasting was buying a few cupcakes in flavors we thought we’d like and picked three. It cost maybe $20.
What these companies do is scummy and targets people who don’t have information about the event industry.
I will yell it from the rooftops until people realize there’s a better way.
reblog to throw tomatoes at people who harass/shame others over fiction.
also reblog to give fanfic writers the love and courage to write whatever they want—however they want—forever.
Here’s dril’s candles on a graph for reference.
It’s easy to look at these and assume “well, high crime cities need more police,” but i think that’s putting the cart before the horse.
Police make crime worse.
Police take fiscal oxygen out of the room, away from actual social support programs. The money spent on policing could go to housing, nutritional services, healthcare, civil rights, building inspections, labor rights enforcement, street maintenance, public transportation. But it goes to paying guys to sit around idling Ford Explorers all day and hitting poor people with sticks.
Crime follows poverty in absolutely every single case. Every single “high crime city” is because of the fucking poverty.
I do think when it comes to making friends a lot of it does have to do with getting over yourself like yeah some people will reject you or sometimes you’ll feel embarrassed or get your feelings hurt but thats not the end of the world if you want to experience anything in life you have to get over that and put the effort in idfk unironically a lot of people ive met who have trouble making friends also admit they won’t put themselves out there first and start talking to somebody first or ask somebody to hang out first etc etc and it truly is like @3liza said you want the experience of already having friends without the experience of making friends and getting to know them. None of this is to say it’s easy it’s not but it’s worth it
agreed 100%. i also think the rhetoric around "being the friend who always reaches out/makes plans" leads to people equating a would-be friend's lack of initiative with a lack of interest in the relationship. like that's not always the case. people are lazy and forgetful so if you want to be their friend that bad, you gotta be willing to overlook some annoying qualities for the sake of community idk.
Im ngl I think a lot of the “being the friend who always reaches out” stuff is people kind of purposefully ignoring how busy the average person is it does take an extreme amount of effort to have friends on top of work and life. especially if you have a large number of friends. Like idk it’s good to be able to recognize the difference between hurt feelings and personal annoyances vs thinking it’s an objective truth that the actions that caused them means nobody cares about you and you should stop pursuing it
hey sorry it's just that i don't think i'm very good at being a person. thanks for letting me try with you, anyway.
"Let me guess. You're trying to create a potion of immortality."
"What? No. That's boring. I don't want to live forever, I only want to know everything."
"Yeah. Only."
I need to stop replying to “how do you make friends in your 30s?” threads because all my answers boil down to “you have to want to know people instead of have friends” and I don’t think people wanna hear that
It’s like. People can tell if you don’t really like or connect with them. If you aren’t truly enamored with someone you will have a hard time coming up with activities to do together to deepen the friendship. Because you don’t really like that person that much.
can’t find a post about it so i’m making my own. the spokane 3 trial reached a verdict today and it was Bad. these people (jac archer, justice forral and bajun mavalwalla II) were part of a group of people arrested After the fact for attending a protest last june on charges of “conspiracy to impede or injure federal officers” (none of them injured anyone and a lot of the people there that day were there in response to a facebook post calling for help to prevent ice from kidnapping a community member. not exactly a conspiracy) this is a federal case and they’ve just announced the verdict and all three have been charged with counts of conspiracy. obviously a not great precedent is set by that verdict, though they are hoping to appeal. this is. miserable. posting this so people are aware because there has been speculation that they will use this as a test case to charge other protesters with felony conspiracy charges
The defendants could face up to six years in federal prison and/or $250,000 in fines. They are expected to appeal the verdict.
truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I asked her if she’s sad about anything and she asked me why she should be. I asked her if she’s perhaps worried she’s a shadow of who she used to be and she said that if she is a shadow she is a joyous one, and anyway whoever she was she is her, now, and that’s enough. I inquired about revenge, about unfinished business, about what had filled her with the incessant need to claw her way out from beneath but she just said she’s here to live. I told her about ghosts, about zombies, tried to explain to her how her options lie between horror and tragedy but she just said if those are the stories meant for her then she’ll make another one. I said “isn’t it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?” and she just looked at me funny and said “what do you mean? The whole world was here, waiting”. Some people, I tell you.
She should be at the club
Baby mouse had earplugs in the sketch and I straight up forgot to ink them pretend they're deep in there
Meanwhile not at the club:
I was so enamored by the party shrew this morning I had to doodle her in my lab notebook at work
shrew girls after just ONE mezcal worm:
do not ask me the color of ANYTHING when pro hero shouto is in the room !!
The degree to which people who know little to nothing about OCD will blithely leave comments that are reasonably likely to trigger someone's OCD on posts that are explicitly about OCD is truly a sign of how dire it is out there, mental health literacy-wise.
the invisibly disabled & the visibly disabled should be best friends btw
always doing something annoying
can I be honest? I was so pissed off by friends and family criticizing my soap choice that, for half a year, I did an experiment where I washed one hand with Palmolive and one with handsoap, to prove that it didn't make your skin any rougher. and do you know what the result is? it does make your skin rougher. and now I'm even more pissed off.
