•1, Backstory and Trauma, along with Peoples takes about it, (seen on Avatok)
We hear about Varangs backstory in the littlest way ever in the film, "The fire came from the mountain when I was little, burnt our forest, it took everything, my people were starving and they cried for help, but Eywa did not come, so I went to the fire, and I learned it's way"
the closest we ever got to an imaginative scene of it, basically a volcano erupted, destroyed their forest, and due to Eywa not intervening it, they decided she has abandoned them and they swore war against her.
Now with Varang, I have always understood where she was coming from (Not defending her action), in the visual dictionary, I can only assume she was Tuk's age (8), when the volcano erupted, I have always thought Na'vi children have a more childlike way of thinking of Eywa, like yes adults see her as a goddess, with limits, no stopping natural disasters etc. but to children, maybe they don't think that way.
Maybe they think of her as a genuine being who can stop if they pray enough, and that's maybe what happened with Varang, her little brain of course couldn't comprehend what the hell was happening around her, until her mother literally burned alive possibly in front of her, and I don't think that's a healthy thing for an 7-8 year old to see.
Not only will this mess up your brain with trauma, it will also leave you questioning your faith in the mother that you always thought was invincible, just suddenly didn't save you or your people, especially your mother.
As the months went on, Varang clearly got older and grew with resentment, not only was her father grieving and her sister was now Tsahik, and Varang was left alone with no rank yet, she saw only on how weak her father was to let his people just starve, or in her mindset at least, we never did know what she did with her sister, if she's even alive or not, but we do know she poisoned her father, and ngl good riddance until proven innocent (don't come at my throat).
She clearly was able to take sway over the clan, which makes me wonder why the clan would listen to a 14-15 year old over their own Oloeyktan, but mk.
Now, AVATOK TAKES/TAKE: Varang was weak-minded due to not staying strong in Faith like Neytiri, yes this was in fact a take on tiktok, mainly neytiri fans but no shame.
And all I have to is...Well duh, Neytiri was in her early 20's or 18 (I don't know nothing was confirmed) when "Eywa didn't come" to save her people, of COURSE Varang was weak minded because she was a little girl who couldn't process a right answer so like a child she turned to rage.
•2, little queen era and rise into a liberator.
I love calling it a little queen, because that's literally what she was.
Being a Tsahík and Oloeykte at 15 had to be a daunting task for Varang, had to learn how to fight better, and do herbs, poisons, medicines everything else, routes for raids, taming the Ska'avum, and everything else, she clearly manipulated her clan into thinking she was the way, I mean she was, they still alive but anyways, I really hope we get something in the movies or comics to show on how she made them go into this very feral and evil way.
Being such an evil and aggressive clan, I'm sure prisoners thought the same, till they saw a damn child and clearly were caught off guard, I'm sure some couldn't take her seriously, but also the dark parts of it.
The Mangkwan take children from other clans and raise them as warriors, like seriously a baby could pop out the womb and they would put a gun in its little hands, pleasure slaves, I wouldn't be surprised if the entire clan was allowed to have them like Varang, they take outsiders, and other things and people.
They clearly worship her in a mother, liberator, symbol, messiah type way, and I wonder if we'll see more in the next movie.
Anyways, I'll make a part 2 later ngl, about her love for Quaritch and maybe her weak demeanor. @raggedypina
