Interview With The Vampire has SOOOO much deeper horror potential that we don't talk about enough and I am so mad about that..
Zombie vampires roaming forests, bright and unnatural eyes peering at hikers from afar. They try to snap a photo and it's gone.
Drained bodies found in creeks and rivers, dumpsters and alleys beside clubs. Only a flash of something moving unnaturally fast through the camera, too fast to pinpoint any features. It can't be human.
Government agencies whisper about aliens on the streets, they know it but cannot manage to prove it. They don't know who it is, or rather, what. Certain kill details classified, only found in the darkest corners and high-ranker's buildings. They don't care enough to figure it out, since they haven't been personally affected. Not yet.
Traces of ash on the path in a small-town park, but no fire around. No cameras, since they don't have a city level budget. Just a pile of ash blowing next to the playground, and a maker distantly processing invisible loss. They know. They felt it, even from that far away.
"Bodies Mutilated by Large, Unidentified Animal" headlines plaguing the papers every once in a while, a vampire either too starved and unkempt or disguised through harnessed power not recognized as a humanoid. The pictures from the cameras nearby have whispers circulating, but most people attribute it to a bear with rabies or something similar.
Vampires stalking humans, relearning all their culture after hiding from it for so long, living through them vicariously, in a way. Watching them go to the beach with family, hiding in an obscure and dangerous fashion just to watch. They can't go in the sun, but they can watch from where it does not reach.
Talamasca members sensed nearby, but the victim of their observation can't manage to pinpoint them. Maybe they're just too tired? But they know someone is watching, someone who isn't normal. A vampire might know better, but this was just a human caught up in contact tracing. The human didn't know they were almost drained, fed on by an alien. But their observers did.
Frantic spreads of printed photos, newspapers from different times and continents, old Polaroids, diagrams and scribbled writing in notebooks titled "Cryptid," "Vampyr?," and "Theory," all residing in one strange human's small apartment.
