Yuu had always found the world boring. People constantly chased after love, pleasure, and even pain, but he could never see the appeal. To him, it was all the same thing repeating over and over again, an endless cycle with no real meaning.
Whenever he spent time with his friends, he never understood their obsession with idols, especially the ones depicted as "pure" or "innocent angels." The admiration they held for those figures was something he simply couldn't relate to.
He even tried watching romance movies in hopes of understanding the attraction. Yet no matter how many he watched, he remained confused. Why were people so captivated by love interests who were cute, naive, and wholesome? What made them so special? He had no answer.
When Yuu arrived in Twisted Wonderland, he assumed it would be no different. Another place, another cycle, another repetition of the same things he had already grown tired of.
But one night in Ramshackle, everything changed.
It happened after the incident with Azul's Overblot when Yuu was suddenly jolted awake by a loud scream from Grim.
Grim's terrified scream shattered the silence of the room. Startled awake, Yuu immediately sat up as Grim frantically pointed toward the window. A faint scent lingered in the air and Yuu could tell it was an omega's scent. It was subtle, but unmistakable.
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, Yuu turned toward the window and caught sight of a shadowy figure sprinting away from Ramshackle Dorm. However, still half asleep, he couldn't make out any distinct features before the figure disappeared into the darkness.
Letting out a quiet sigh, Yuu shifted his gaze back to Grim. "What happened?" he asked, deciding it would be easier to get answers from the frightened direbeast than from a fleeing silhouette.
Grim then looked at Yuu and explained how he was having the best dream of his life then he was suddenly woken up by a noise. When he opened his eyes, he saw a figure staring at Yuu while he slept. Startled, he screamed in shock and fear
Grim turned toward Yuu, still visibly shaken. "I was havin' the best dream ever!" He exclaimed, his fur puffed up. "There was a mountain of tuna, and it was all mine! Then I heard some weird noise and woke up."
"When I opened my eyes, there was someone standin' right there!" He pointed toward Yuu's bed. "They were just starin' at ya while you slept!"
"I dunno who it was, but they were creepin' me out! They weren't saying anything, just standin' there and lookin' at ya!" Grim's voice rose as he spoke. "Then I got scared and screamed! The second I did, they bolted out the window!"
Yuu fell silent, the last remnants of sleep vanishing from his mind.
Someone had broken into Ramshackle in the middle of the night and stood over him while he slept. By all accounts, it should have been disturbing. Creepy, even.
Yet for some reason, Yuu couldn't bring himself to feel afraid.
Instead, a strange warmth settled in his chest.
The thought surfaced before he could stop it.
Why was that his first reaction? Maybe he was still half asleep. Maybe his brain wasn't functioning properly after being woken up in the middle of the night. That had to be it.
Choosing not to dwell on it, he shook his head and turned to Grim. "It's fine now." He said, keeping his voice calm. "Whoever it was, they're gone."
Grim still looked nervous, but Yuu managed to reassure him enough that they eventually settled back into bed.
Once everything had quieted down, Yuu lay back on his pillow and closed his eyes. Yet somehow, he couldn't get any sleep
His eyes remained stubbornly open as he stared at the ceiling. No matter how hard he tried to think about something else, his mind kept circling back to the same thing.
Someone had snuck into his room. Someone had stood over him and watched him sleep.
And instead of being horrified, his first instinct had been.. Hot.
Yuu groaned and buried his face in his pillow.
What was wrong with him?
All his life, he'd never understood people's obsessions with romance, love, or attraction. He'd always found those things pointless, repetitive, and impossible to relate to.
Yet now, of all things, this was what managed to catch his interest.
The thought of someone secretly watching him while he slept shouldn't be appealing. It definitely shouldn't.
...So why couldn't he stop thinking about it?
Yuu rolled onto his side with a frustrated sigh. For the first time in a long while, he found himself genuinely questioning his own tastes.
Now playing: Cold by Alfie Castley
The revelation didn't happen with a dramatic confrontation. It happened in pieces, like a puzzle Yuu didn't realize his friends were assembling right in front of him.
It was the way Ace's eyes darkened with a manic, possessive hunger whenever Yuu so much as breathed a thank you to a student from another dorm. It was Deuce's sudden, terrifying habit of "accidentally" breaking the fingers of anyone who bumped into Yuu in the hallways. It was the way the faint, chaotic blend of their omega pheromones, mixed with the sharp, sweet scent of Azul's lingering obsession and Riddle's suffocating, rigid possessiveness began to coat the very walls of ramshackle dorm.
They weren't just watching him. They were dividing him up amongst themselves.
The lock on his bedroom window hadn't been broken by a stranger. It had been unlocked from the inside, a duplicate key meticulously forged. The footsteps he heard at midnight weren't from a stranger. They belonged to the boys he sat next to in class every single day.
When Yuu finally connected the dots, matching the specific, sweet, heavy scent left on his pillow to Ace's laundry detergent, and the muddy boot prints by the windowsill to Deuce's exact tracking boots, he didn’t feel a sudden surge of horror. He didn't feel betrayed
Instead, a devastating, dark thrill coiled tight in his gut.
"Look me in the eye, tell me that I'm still alive."
They were completely unhinged. They were losing their minds over him, turning into monsters right under his nose. And Yuu had never felt more alive.
The next afternoon in the school cafeteria, the tension was palpable. Grim was busy stuffing his face, entirely oblivious, but Ace and Deuce were sitting unusually stiff, their eyes darting to Yuu with a mix of desperate hunger and heavily masked anxiety. They were waiting to see if he'd mention the missing uniform ribbon that had been stolen from his room the night before.
Yuu took a slow sip of his drink, playing his part to perfection. He sighed softly, letting his shoulders slump just enough to look vulnerable.
"You know.." Yuu began, his voice dripping with deliberate, naive innocence. "I've been losing so many things lately. First my button, now my favorite ribbon. I must be so clumsy."
Ace's hand clenched around his fork, his omega scent flaring with a sudden, sharp spike of raw gratification. "Yeah? Maybe you just need someone to keep a closer eye on you, Yuu. You're too careless."
"Maybe you're right, Ace.." Yuu murmured. He leaned forward, looking directly into Ace's eyes.
Yuu reached across the table, his fingers brushing against Ace's knuckles. It wasn't a casual touch. He let his fingers linger, tracing the back of Ace's hand with a slow, deliberate pressure that made the other boy's breath hitch.
"I don't know what I'd do without you keeping track of me." Yuu said, offering a sweet, oblivious smile. "You're always so attentive. It’s really attractive when a guy is that... dedicated."
Ace froze, his face flushing crimson as his pheromones practically choked the air with sudden, intoxicated delight. He looked ready to drop to his knees right there in the cafeteria.
Beside him, Deuce's expression darkened, a toxic wave of jealousy rolling off him so strongly it made the air heavy. Deuce's grip on his glass was so tight the knuckles were white. He looked dangerous, a breath away from snapping Ace's neck just for receiving that touch.
Yuu's smile slowly widened. Perfect.
He turned his gaze to Deuce, his eyes softening into a gaze of pure, crafted adoration. "And Deuce... I noticed the courtyard was completely cleared today. Those upperclassmen who were bothering me yesterday didn't even show up to class." Yuu leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Did you do something? You're always so fiercely protective of me. I feel so incredibly safe knowing you're watching over me, even when I don't see you."
Deuce practically trembled, his pupils dilating as Yuu's praise hit him like a drug. The sheer, unhinged violent urge that had been brewing in his chest instantly melted into a desperate, feral urge to please.
"I-I'll always take care of the trash around you, Yuu." Deuce choked out, his voice thick, his mind screaming at the subtle reward. "Always. No matter what."
"I know you will." Yuu whispered softly. He reached out and gently adjusted Deuce's collar, his fingertips deliberately grazing the sensitive skin of Deuce's neck, leaving the boy completely breathless and entirely enslaved to his words.
Later that evening, Yuu returned to ramshackle dorm, satisfied.
When Yuu walked up the stairs, he knew exactly what he would find. When he opened his bedroom door, the window was already unlatched, swinging open a mere fraction of an inch to let the cool night air and whoever wanted to climb through it inside.
Yuu didn't lock it. He didn't even close it.
Instead, he walked over to his bed, picked up his pillow, and inhaled the faint, chaotic blend of Ace and Deuce's scents that had been left behind from their previous break in.
"Cause what you did last night was a sin"
Yuu smirked, a dark, beautiful madness reflecting in his eyes as he lay down, leaving the space beside him intentionally open. So do it again. Show me just how crazy you can get.
The morning sun was bright, but it did nothing to clear the heavy, thick atmosphere clinging to the path ahead. Yuu could feel the suffocating tension before he even spotted the familiar trio. The air around Riddle, Trey, and Cater wasn't just tense, it was heavy with a bizarre, desperate static that made the passing underclassmen instinctively steer wide around them.
Yuu didn't slow his pace. He just clutched his schoolbag a little tighter, letting a small, puzzled frown escape while a devastating, dark thrill coiled tight in his gut. Beneath his carefully schooled expression, he knew exactly what their frantic, heavy scents meant.
He stepped directly into their path, playing the part of the fragile, magicless prefect to absolute perfection.
"I'm falling apart without you"
Immediately, Riddle snapped to attention, his shoulders squaring with a rigid, manic intensity, his eyes burning with a hunger he tried desperately to mask. He looked visibly exhausted, his pale face drawn tight and his strict posture fracturing the second Yuu comes into view.
"It's only been hours, but I can't get you off my mind."
Trey shifted his large frame, smoothly and deliberately cutting off the walkway behind Yuu, casting a protective shadow that effectively isolated him from the rest of the campus. His jaw was set, his eyes hyper focused and hyper fixated.
"Don't know what you've done to all I knew, but I'm ready to leave it behind."
Cater's usual easygoing posture was completely gone, his thumbs frozen over his phone. He looked at Yuu with a terrifying, blank intensity, his bright persona utterly shattered. The internet, his followers, his carefully constructed mask. Cater had discarded it all the moment he crossed the threshold into ramshackle the night before.
Yuu paused right in front of them, blinking up at the trio with wide, beautifully oblivious eyes.
He didn't say a single word. He just offered them a sweet, completely naive smile, his eyes shining with a helpless, trusting curiosity as he looked to them with their dilated, hungry eyes. He "unintentionally" let them see the screen of his phone, quietly showing them the wiped call logs and the mysteriously missing contacts, tilting his head as if asking a silent, innocent question about how it could have possibly happened.
The silence that followed was deafening, but the reaction was instantaneous.
Riddle's breath hitched, a sudden, sharp spike of raw, intoxicated gratification flaring from his pheromones as his cheeks turned a violent, breathless crimson. Beside him, a heavy, feral growl practically vibrated in Trey's chest, his knuckles whitening against his bag as his mind screamed at the soft, sweet smile Yuu has. Cater let out a shaky, breathless gasp, a manic gleam dancing in his dark eyes, his phone slipping slightly in his hand as he stared at Yuu, entirely enslaved by the sheer, unhinged devotion blooming in his chest.
Yuu's smile widened just a fraction. So subtle, so sweet, entirely masking the triumphant madness roaring in his blood. They were completely undone. They were trading their rules, their morals, and their sanity for a silent look from a prefect who pretended not to see the monsters they were becoming.
By afternoon, the atmosphere around Yuu had shifted once more. Heartslabyul's suffocating grip had given way to something far more subtle. A slick, deep sea inkiness that seemed to pull at his ankles with every step he took through the school corridors.
The Octavinelle trio didn't operate in the shadows of the night quite like the freshmen or the upperclassmen of Heartslabyul. They operated through contracts, calculated debts, and a slow, agonizing psychological siege. But more than anything, they were driven by a biological frenzy.
Azul, Jade, and Floyd are three omegas who usually held the school in their palms, were completely drowning. They had spent their lives masking their presentation, refusing to bow to anyone. Yet somehow, the alpha prefect managed to turn their life around in ways they never had expected. A true, quiet, devastating alpha whose scent didn't need to roar to completely conquer them. He didn't demand their submission with a heavy, suffocating pressure or display his dominance through brute force. Instead, his presence was a low, grounding hum. A steady presence like the solid earth beneath a deep sea.
He moved with a gentle humility, offering them soft, trusting smiles and a genuine warmth that completely disarmed their sharpest defenses.
He wasn't trying to conquer them, and that was precisely why they were utterly conquered. His simple, quiet presence dismantled their carefully constructed masks, leaving them entirely exposed, aching for a bond they never thought they would want, and desperate to belong to an alpha who didn't even realize he held their world in his hands.
"If you're the devil, then I will sell you my soul. Just for a moment to show you that I’m yours"
Azul's fingers shook as he adjusted his glasses, staring down at a blank parchment scroll on his desk. He had spent his entire life collecting the vulnerabilities of others, turning their desires into chains that bound them to him. He was a businessman. But also an omega who had sworn he would never let a knot or a mating bite define his worth.
Yet, as he looked at a small, discarded pen Yuu had used during a study session, Azul felt a terrifying, clawing void in his chest. His omega pheromones that were usually masked behind a sharp, clinical cologne, were bleeding out. Heavy, slick, and sweet with a desperate, suffocating slickness that practically begged for an alpha.
Azul let out a ragged, breathless laugh. He knew what people called him. A shady octopus, a merchant of debts, a demon of the deep sea. He had spent his entire life crafting a persona that gave him absolute control, ensuring that no one could ever look down on him or see the insecure boy hidden beneath the well tailored suit. He was an omega who had masterfully flipped the script, using contracts to force even the most arrogant alphas to bow to his terms.
But looking at the empty seat across from his desk, Azul realized he would gladly burn every single contract he had ever collected, strip himself of his power, and sign his entire existence over to Yuu. He didn't want to conquer the alpha, he wanted to present his neck. He was ready to bankrupt his own soul just for a single, possessive rumble from Yuu's chest, a fleeting moment to prove that his entire body belonged to the alpha.
"Yeah, you’re a demon, I feel it deep in my bones. But when you love me, you know, you make hell seem cold"
Usually, Jade's composure was flawless, his polite, soft spoken demeanor masking the dangerous predator underneath. But today, his eyes were entirely vacant, his inner omega whining pitifully at the back of his throat, completely inflamed by the phantom scent of Yuu's pheromones.
Jade's twin, Floyd, was unpredictable, but Jade prided himself on being the rational anchor. Not anymore. He could feel the dangerous, unhinged rot spreading through his bones. The primal, desperate need to be claimed, to have Yuu's teeth tear into his scent gland and claim him forever.
He knew Yuu was a magicless human, a fragile creature in a school full of mages. But Yuu was also an alpha. And when Yuu looked at him, a soft, oblivious expression that seemed to swallow all of Jade's dark, violent urges whole, Jade felt a warmth so intense it made the depths of his cold, abyssal heart feel frozen by comparison. He wanted the alpha's brand. He wanted the permanent heat of a mating bond, even if it burned him alive.
"I'm used to getting high, but not in the way you have me. It's a pain I don't want to escape"
Floyd was leaning against the wall, his long legs stretched out, his eyes wide, dark, and completely unhinged. He wasn't shifting or fidgeting like he usually did when he was bored. He was completely still, his scent flaring with a sharp, sweet, desperate distress, his inner omega clawing at his chest to go find the alpha.
The furious jealousy clawing at him whenever another omega so much as glanced at the alpha was an absolute, burning torture. It made his blood boil, filling his head with dark, violent urges to tear the eyes out of anyone else who dared look at what belonged to him. He wanted to lock Yuu away where no one else could ever see him, to mask the alpha's beautiful, grounding scent entirely in his own sweet, frantic pheromones so the rest of the world knew to back off.
Yet, Floyd craved the sheer, unhinged madness of that torment. He welcomed the burning ache, wanting Yuu to notice his possessive spiral, to violently break through his defenses, sink his teeth deep into his neck, and claim him so thoroughly that his entire identity dissolved into simply being his mate.
"Come on, Yuu! If we don't hurry, all the good food will be gone, and my stomach is doing the angry rumble!" Grim whined, dangling heavily from Yuu's shoulder as they pushed through the grand doors of the Mostro Lounge.
Yuu sighed softly, adjusting his grip on his schoolbag as he stepped into the dim, underwater ambiance of the lounge. Outwardly, he looked like any other tired student heading in after a long day of classes just to grab an early dinner. He didn't acknowledge the thick, suffocating wave of sweet omega pheromones saturating the air the moment the doors clicked shut, or the way the three figures waiting for him were practically vibrating with a desperate, unspoken need.
Underneath his flawless, naive performance, Yuu saw right through their gazes. He saw how Azul was trembling behind his desk, completely stripped of his corporate mask.
"You see me at my worst, save me from who I used to be."
Yuu knew the dark, insecure history Azul ran from. He knew the feral, unhinged violence Jade and Floyd hid beneath their polite smiles. And yet, his quiet, grounding alpha presence had become their absolute salvation, a safe harbor that stripped away their armor and rescued them from the lonely, defensive monsters they used to be. They were completely undone, their pride shattered in the most beautiful way possible.
"Now my love is all yours to take."
The transactional walls they had built to protect themselves had crumbled to dust, leaving nothing behind but a raw, exposed vulnerability.
"Ooh, I can smell the kitchen from here! My stomach is finally gonna stop yelling at me!" Grim piped up, his blue flamed ears instantly perking up as he practically drooled onto the table. "Hey, Azul! Get us the deluxe seafood platter, extra large!"
Yuu walked calmly over to his usual booth, letting his heavy schoolbag slide onto the seat next to him. He didn't demand their submission or make an aggressive show of dominance. Instead, he simply looked up at the three of them with a soft, tired expression, offering a gentle smile that carried the natural, undeniable warmth of his true Alpha nature. Without him even trying, that steady, grounding presence cut right through the manipulative, tense air of the lounge.
"Sorry to bother you guys so early." Yuu said softly, his voice a calm melody that instantly made their knees weak. "We're just really hungry after class. Could we order some food, Azul?"
Azul nodded, his breath catching sharply in his throat as his fingers trembled against the edge of his desk. His face burned a furious crimson, his inner omega practically weeping with a desperate, ecstatic urge to serve the alpha, to provide for him, and to beg him to stay. Beside him, Jade let out a quiet, shaky gasp, his polite facade fracturing completely as his pupils dilated, his hand twitching with the overwhelming primal need to cater to Yuu's every whim just to catch another hint of his scent.
Floyd's eyes darkened with a manic, possessive heat. His massive frame loomed completely still, his breath hitching as he inhaled the passive trace of Yuu's grounding scent spreading across the room. A low, needy rumble vibrated in his chest, entirely enslaved by the urge to pull Yuu close and feed him himself.
"O-Of course..." Azul managed to choke out, his voice betraying a breathless, uncharacteristic hitch as he frantically tried to reassemble his shattered composure. He pushed his glasses up his nose with a violently trembling hand, his eyes wide and completely fixed on Yuu. "A deluxe seafood platter... right away. It's... entirely on the house for you, Yuu. Jade, please see to it immediately."
Yuu blinked, his head tilting slightly as a genuine look of confusion crossed his face. He looked from Azul's flushed, trembling form to the menu, completely missing the desperate, submissive undertone in the octomer's voice.
"Wait, on the house?" Yuu asked, his voice full of soft, bewildered innocence. "Are you sure, Azul? You usually charge double for extra large platters, let alone the deluxe ones. I didn't bring any special coupons or anything..."
He scratched the back of his neck, completely oblivious to how his casual, grounding scent flared with his confusion, sending another devastating wave of warmth crashing over the three struggling omegas.
"I mean, thank you." Yuu added with a small laugh, offering Azul a sweet, blinding smile that nearly sent the octomer straight to his knees. "But you really don't have to do that. I don't want to hurt your profits."
Azul's breath caught completely, his heart hammering against his ribs so loudly he was certain Yuu could hear it. The alpha's innocent concern for his profits. the very transactional shield Azul always used to protect himself, felt like a beautiful, agonizing joke. After all, Azul knew he would have signed over the deed to the Mostro Lounge for Yuu without a second thought.
"I-It's no trouble at all, prefect" Azul stammered, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the edge of his desk to keep his knees from buckling. His throat felt entirely parched under Yuu's honest, trusting gaze. "Consider it... a preferred customer discount. Your presence is always... highly valued here."
Behind him, Jade let out a low, uneven breath, his golden eye darkening as he stepped forward to salvage what was left of their collective dignity. Even the fiercely composed vice housewarden was trembling, his hand smoothing down his coat with a frantic, rhythmic motion just to keep his inner omega from outright begging Yuu to take whatever he wanted.
"Azul speaks the truth, prefect." Jade smoothly intervened, though his voice possessed a raw, breathless edge that completely betrayed his usual perfect cadence. "A hardworking prefect and his companion deserve to be thoroughly looked after. It is our absolute pleasure to accommodate you."
"Yeah, yeah! Free food!" Grim cheered, completely ruining the heavy, desperate atmosphere as he slammed his paws onto the table. "Hurry up and bring out the food! My stomach is already rumbling!"
Floyd, meanwhile, had completely stopped pacing. He loomed at the edge of the booth, his massive frame radiating a volatile, suffocating heat. His eyes were entirely locked onto the soft skin of Yuu's exposed neck as the alpha tilted his head in confusion. A deep, heavy rumble tore from the eel's chest, a primal, possessive sound of pure submission that made Azul twitch in warning. Floyd wanted to tear the table apart, throw himself at Yuu's feet, and squeeze him until the alpha's grounding scent completely drowned out the smell of the restaurant.
"Shrimpy is so dense~" Floyd whined, his voice dropping into a needy, breathless register as he leaned down, his face a mere inch from Yuu's shoulder. He inhaled sharply, entirely intoxicated by the passive, warm alpha pheromones Yuu was giving off. "Azul says it's free, so just eat it~. Or do you want me to feed it to you myself, huh?"
Yuu blinked, acting completely blind to the fact that his casual, hardworking persona had just completely stripped three of the most dangerous mers in the Coral Sea of their sanity. He merely offered Floyd a bright, grateful smile, entirely missing the way the taller boy's pupils dilated to thin slits at the gesture.
"If you're sure.." Yuu said softly, his voice carrying that natural, undeniable warmth that made all three of them want to weep. "Thank you, guys. You're always so nice to us."
The word nice practically shattered what was left of Azul’s corporate mask. He could only nod dumbly, his face burning a violent, breathless crimson as Jade quickly turned on his heel to retreat toward the kitchen before his own instincts completely overrode his logic.
"So cute..." Yuu thought to himself, his internal monologue dripping with a dark, satisfied amusement that never once touched his innocent outer expression.
