Dirk Crocker Thoughts

I’ve been thinking about the Dirk Crocker AU some more, and I don’t know if a tiny Dirk raised by Candy Jane and Jake would end up loyal to Jane and follow her fascist regime, or if he would rebel the first chance he gets.

Either way, I can’t imagine Dirk would be an easy child to raise. The original Dirk was definitely a feisty, superpowered baby who could survive well enough on his own. The first thing he did upon being born was break open a glass ectobiology tube. A clone of Dirk would probably wreck so much havoc before he’s even a year old. Even when he gets old enough to understand more, I can’t imagine Dirk listening to a parent unless they are very patient with him and explain the reasoning behind everything they tell him to do. It’s not that he’s a literal demon child, he just has a lot of energy and he’s very precocious. He would be challenging to raise, but I think he would still want love and affection like any child.

Candy Jane and Jake would not be the kind of parents Dirk would need to grow into a well-balanced adult. I feel like Jane would react very badly to Dirk’s early behavior and try to find an effective way to control him, either with robot intervention or maybe even mind control if that didn’t work. Jake would do his best to stay out of the situation and do nothing to help either way. Despite whatever he was thinking when he agreed to raise Dirk, I don’t really think he could have a healthy relationship with a clone of his dead ex. Depending on what happens, I feel like Dirk Crocker could end up a very angry, miserable child. Love could turn to resentment and hatred as easily as it did for the original Dirk.
