It’s never too late for a new beginning.
So. It’s almost December. And I think we can all agree that 2019 has not been the best year.
Every year, in December, people start making promises to themselves. “Next year I’m going to find love.” “I have to lose 3kgs this year.” “I have to get above 90% in all of my exams this year.”
New year’s resolutions aren’t necessarily a bad thing. They allow you to set goals for yourself and achieve them. But December can also be a time when really toxic resolutions are being thrown in your face, with companies making you feel guilty for eating food around Christmas and telling you to lose weight and whatnot.
This December don’t listen to any of that. Make your resolutions based off what you want and you think is best for you.
I know it’s easier said than done. So, let me help you.
Start your new year by being kind to people. And that includes yourself.
Being kind to yourself doesn’t necessarily mean to pamper yourself daily. Even if it’s just lighting that scented candle you’ve been saving forever while you write essays or wearing something that makes you smile, just to be happy. Not for anyone else, but for you.
Try to do things that make you smile. And stop making self-deprecating jokes.
I know they’re “just jokes”. But when things are repeated to you that many times, they start to take effect and you start to believe them. So don’t make fun of yourself, be proud of yourself.
I don’t care if you haven’t gotten into Harvard, or if you failed your finals, or if someone broke up with you, or if you haven’t gotten the job you wanted. It’s okay. You’ve lived through a decade, an incredible decade. And getting up in the morning and getting through your day is achievement enough.
And if you still feel like you’ve done nothing in these ten years? A new ten are starting soon. You can try again. And it’s never too late for a new beginning.
