I really thought that Aziraphale and Crowley were going to rewrite the Book of Life.
I really thought they were going to become the Illustrator and Author.
I really thought that's why all the books in the shop were made blank.
I really thought God wasn't going to actually exist in a true form, and instead be a kind of omnipresent power of creation.
I really thought that they were going to have their forced-proximity-making-up-with-each-other as they were required to work together to write the new Book of Life.
I really thought that they were going to choose *their* humanity and not a new one.
I really thought they would still be themselves at the end.
I really thought the moral of the story was that the humanity they had was worth protecting, and that life itself (whether mortal or otherwise) was beautiful and inherently important.
I really thought this story was about a love that transcends.
I understand the path they took. However. I do think it missed the mark on what the show was really trying to say.
i saw a post about the ending where the op thought aziraphale and crowley were going to re-write the book of life themselves, when it was just them in the bookshop. they had all the time in the world, in the universe, because it was just them (and god and satan, whatever)
and i really like that as an idea actually, as a different ending
because what do you mean we could have had this lovely montage of scenes of them writing down the new pages into the Book, recreating the universe that they'd always wanted, deciding what they want to keep and to get rid of from the old universe; a balanced heaven and hell, free will, ACTUAL peace on earth, cafes, little restaurants where they know you, book shops, plants, bentleys, nightingales, Berkely Square, the 1939 song A Nightingale Sang in Berkely Square, etc - and getting rid of the toxic heaven and hell, the suffering, the apocolypse, the sound of music etc)
i can just see aziraphale re-writing all the angels back into the book too, michael, muriel, uriel, saraqael, even sandalaphon, because it was "only fair". thereby letting them finish their storyarcs, especially micheal. let michael see there is another way!!!
let them write their own ending!!! let them be an "us"!!!!!! (i know that's what they technically did, in human form, but just, like, let them be aziraphale and crowley with all their remembered history and the 6k years it took for them to get there - all that yearning, let it finally pay off! let them be happy in the ritz for all eternity is that too much to ask???)
And then they met as humans and I still had a glimmer of hope that there would be a post scene or an after credits scene like this.
I think this would have been the most perfect way to have wrapped it all up.
But we did get an ending and though I don’t 100% agree with everything, I did like quite a lot of the show and am so thankful that we did get some closure.
Having reflected a bit I am glad they gave us closure and I’m glad that even if our Aziraphale and Crowley didn’t get to have their happy ever after at least one version of them did. It’s not them exactly, which is heartbreaking, but the confirmation that they do manage to find and love one another is a consolation and lovely in that bittersweet sort of way.
I kept hoping for something that confirmed they remembered or that they were going to go to sleep and wake up and be entities again or that there was going to be some sort of post credit where they were humans for a while but that got sorted out later sort of wrap up……….🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭😭😭🙁😕😟😫🥺😢😭😩😩😩😤😤😤😥😥😥
