The sentient dolphins of the Thulaic Sea

(part of my world building project, lore under the cut)

These enigmatic dolphins — enlightened by the gift of sentience — are found in the frontier coasts of the Thulaic Sea. They are able to replicate human tongues, by some unknown measures (their own native tongue of high-pitched shrieks and clicks is utterly incomprehensible to the human ear). According to their own telling, they hail from the shores of the never-before-seen land called A'hra. In recent years they were ousted from their homeland by a mysterious group of people who call themselves "The Clans of Yahm". Now they find themselves stranded on the opposite side of the great maelstrom, agitating to reclaim their homes.

Aside from their intelligence, their most distinguishing feature is their ability to magically alter other living creatures to suit their own ends. Most prominently seen in their peculiar head dresses; as one can easily observe each of them wears a heavily modified shelled-cephalopod (an unknown species most likely native to the shores of A'hra), which they control as if it were one of their limbs. They've also managed to awaken some parts of their ancient ancestry, giving select warriors of their tribe the ability to grow to gargantuan sizes and the length of a lesser sea-serpent.

Their society is highly collectivist, to the point where individuals don't have names as we understand them. Each member is expected to fulfill their role for the exclusive benefit of the community (by which means these roles are allotted we do not yet know). Their religion reflects this outlook as well. Their goddess, Citra, appears to be a pantheistic entity, existing in all things and allotting both life and death to all living beings. practitioners are expected to reflect her all encompassing nature, and try to maintain a balance with nature. The dolphins appear to be completely ignorant of both the worship of Soleus and the gnosticism of the Coventines, leading us to assume that these religions are completely foreign to sacred A'hra.
