you never meant to fall asleep mid match watching lamine play, you just.. drifted off! i mean who wouldn’t fall asleep all cozy and warm in their own bed.
for now, it was peaceful. the soft glow of the tv light illuminating your dark room, announcer annoyingly yapping in the back.
and you, sleeping with no clue that your boyfriend just suffered a hamstring injury.
your phone buzzed beside you, no matter how deep of a sleep you were in, you always answered.
shifting softly, you propped yourself up on your elbows, eyes squinted from sleep, mouth dry and all— that’s how you know it was a good nap.
grabbing your phone, you answered the call, hair slightly disheveled, expecting to be greeted with a smiley, happy lamine like always, no idea he’d know you slept through the whole game anyways, right?
but no, instead there he laid, face in the camera, eyes dazed and sleepy, it looked like he was.. in a hospital bed?
“hola mi amor.” he spoke effortlessly, but his voice was deeper, he sounded exhausted.
your heart seriously dropped to your toes, it was seen on your expression aswell, even in the dark light he knew you were worried the moment you realized.
“lamine what happened?” you asked, tone panicked, tears already brimming your eyes, no way you missed this— how selfish of you to sleep through his game.
“you didn’t watch?” he asked, not disappointed because he knew you watched some of it, to his judgement he could tell you fell asleep by the look of your puffy eyes.
“i—“ you started, yes! you did watch— only the first thirty minutes though.. not your fault sleep took over, you couldn’t stop looking at his poor expression, he looked so upset.
you attempted to speak again, your voice cracked, a sniffle came through the line, you felt guilty as hell.
“baby.. no crying.” lamine soothed, flashing his sweet smile he knew made you feel better instantly.
“what happened..” you sobbed out, wiping your tears helplessly as they kept falling, oh how pathetic you looked, he was the one in the hospital, not you!
but you were a crybaby, you just felt for your boyfriend is all.
“uhm..” he started, “hurt my hamstring” he explained through broken english.
gosh you felt so bad you weren’t awake to call him or even ask if he’s okay when it happened, guilt was eating you alive right now— he saw it.
“i’m so sorry baby..” you shakily spoke, staring at lamine’s expression through the screen, you didn’t even have to tell him, he knew you fell asleep.
“not your fault mi chica” lamine mumbled, he didn’t want you feeling bad— never liked it.
his mother was heard in the back, “¿Es eso y/n?”(is that y/n?”
“Déjame hablar con ella” his mom spoke. (let me talk to her.)
you just sat there, staring at the screen— sitting in your own guilt while they exchanged conversation, you didn’t understand it so why bother tuning in.
“hola y/n?” lamine’s mom spoke, her face steadied in the camera, holding the phone.
“hi!” you forced a grin, everyone knew it was fake, you were literally just sobbing.
“lamine is okay, don’t be sad— be happy, we miss you, sí?” she held up a thumbs up in the frame, earning a more genuine smile from you.
“yes.” you replied with a smile, wiping the fresh tears that threated to fall again.
his mom flashed a hand heart before handing the phone off to lamine, that made you feel a bit better.
“baby— i feel asleep while watching i didn’t see you get hurt..” you admitted, tears pricking your eyes again.
“i know” lamine let out a soft chuckle at your dramatics, he already knew you fell asleep, it’s like you thought he’d be mad.
“you know!?” you exclaimed in a teasing tone.
“sí bebé.. look at you.” he remarked with a smile, even when he was injured, you always made him feel better.
taking in your appearance, you did look a little exhausted, instead of replying with something snappy, you just squinted your eyes.
“are they taking visitors?” you asked.
“yes.” lamine spoke, tone soft through the speaker.
before you knew it, your shoes were slipped on, hair was brushed through neatly, and your sweet smile was back on your face after such sad news.
because things were always okay if you and lamine were together.
