Escargoteric - Comics by comiXology

Escargoteric, by Johnny Herber, is a mollusk heavy existentialist fantasy. It features snails, and a grumpy female protagonist who should know better.

Oh yeah, my comic is up on Comixology at the moment. Less than a dollar, too. And check out the always awesome Sawdust Press catalog while you’re at it. I’d recommend the Center for Otherworld Science series by the great Shing Yin Khor.

PAYMENT

Our page rate is $50 per up to a maximum of 15 pages. 10 copies per contributor will also be provided. All copies purchased after the book is produced will be provided at 50% off the cover price to be sold by contributors. We also plan to incorporate bonuses to everyone if the Kickstarter over funds.

OUR SPECS

We will be printing a two color book, black with a red Pantone spot color, at 6.625" × 10.25" (standard graphic novel size).

YOUR RIGHTS

Understand that submitting your stories to Elements means that, if accepted, you are ceding exclusive first worldwide rights to the story for a full calendar year from the date of publication, and non-exclusive worldwide reprint rights in perpetuity. Intellectual property rights will remain in the hands of the creator.

Other than that - there are 3 ways to get a hold of it.

1. Find me at SDCC, where I’ll be handing it out for free(I won’t be tabling, but I’ll post where I’ll be on Twitter - @sawdustbear).

2.  Be a Patreon subscriber at the Sawdust Press or care package level, and I’ll be mailing them out in July’s mailing.

3. I’ll be selling them at Designercon, maybe? 

They’re a limited run of 200, which is smaller than most of our book runs, and won’t be reprinted.

Thanks again to everyone who came out to VanCAF and picked up a copy of Escargoteric or just stopped by the table. I ended up selling all but two copies, which is crazy. It was my first comics festival, and it couldn’t have been any better. Shing gave me a lot of solid advice, people said nice things, and I got to meet a lot of cartoonists who got me into making comics.

VanCAF is simply the best. I hope to attend next year as well, with new material, better sketch cards, and more of a rested and well-fed mind. I think I survived off a sole burrito the entire weekend because I forgot that I need to eat. This experience was surreal. So thanks again everyone, and hope you all had as good of a time as I did.

Sawdust Press at TCAF

In a perfect world, I would have told you that I would be at TCAF this weekend with a fancy image and map before leaving my house, where my laptop also is. As I live in an imperfect world, as do you, me informing you that Sawdust Press and I will be at TCAF, table 234, will have to suffice. We'll be debuting special stickers and the cryptids notecard I made especially for Canada, as well as debuting a limited release of Johnny Herber's Escargoteric(with a larger release at VanCAF). We'll have copies of Center for Otherworld Science, Blood Root and the standard assortment of zines as well! Hope to see some of you there!

A few lesson examples include: “Why Do All Lesbians Look The Same,” “Why Do Lesbians Hate Men,” and “Isn’t Lesbianism Just A Phase?” The material is safe for all ages, but use your discretion — there is discussion on sex and illustrations of sex toys. After getting a couple asks about supplies, I made this diagram thing. These materials were used when I made Escargoteric. My supplies change as things go up and down in price, but these are some of my mainstays. It’s all pretty basic stuff.

And the coffee is to the color of my liking. I’m a cream and sugar kind of guy. I’m not cool enough to drink it black. One of these days…
