if you’re disabled or chronically ill and need help from others in daily life, the world may shame you or make you feel like you’re weird, but i promise you are not. people need people; this has always been true throughout history. one of the earliest signs of civilisation is evidence that injured and disabled people were well taken care of. disabled people receiving long term care from others is a sign that human civilisation is functioning as it should. needing care is normal, sacred, and special.

That was one of the most beautiful sequences I have ever seen.
That’s because Marahute was animated by none other than Glen Keane, who storyboarded this magnificent sequence as well. He’s the legendary animator behind Ariel, Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, and Tarzan. Glen is famous for his extraordinary dedication to bringing his characters to life. For the Rescuers Down Under, he thoroughly studied eagle anatomy, and here are a few of his notes.
The flying scene in Rescuers Down Under is, hands down, my favorite, faaaaaaavorite flying scene in pretty much any animation I've seen. I love it more than Aladdin and Jasmine's romantic flying carpet ballad. I love it more than all of Studio Ghibli's airships and spiritual animals. I love it more than all the How to Train Your Dragon movies combined. And mind you, all the examples I listed have fucking fantastic flying scenes.
But - and I admit heavy nostalgia - Cody and Malahute bonding has lived in my head rent-free for thirty-six years and this scene has yet to beat on how damn majestic, thrilling (it's probably the closest to giving me an adrenaline rush involving flight since I'm otherwise terrified of heights), and beautiful it still is.
I look at that animation, take out my cigarette, let out a deep sigh, and with a dumbass grin, ask, "So, was the sensation of majesty as good for you as it was for me?"
AI couldn't make this. AI couldn't come close. This scene is artists pouring love of their craft into every fucking frame. AI could never.
