I’ve said this before and I’ll continue to say it:
King of the Hill is the best animated sitcom of all time. Not only is it consistently hilarious for the majority of its 13 seasons, but it frequently took on relatable topics in a sane and measured way.
The relationship between Hank and Bobby alone takes so many fascinating turns. Early in the show where they just completely clash over Bobby’s love for comedy that Hank doesn’t understand and Bobby’s inability to appreciate what Hank values, like his prized acoustic guitar. Then later they find things to connect on like when Bobby experiences his first live football game. Or when Bobby figures out that he’s super talented at judging cuts of meat by sight and gets on a university team that competes in meat identifying/judging competitions, which Hank loves of course.
The dynamic with the whole John Redcorn, Dale, Nancy thing over the years. Dale’s dad who left him and turned out to be gay. Of course Peggy has a ton of stuff. Her insecurity about her big feet and her overconfidence in her very clearly terrible Spanish.
In one episode, Bobby is the only boy who takes home economics and at first Hank hates this, but then when Bobby starts making delicious meals and doing useful shit like alters Hanks jeans so they fit better, he starts to love it. Then Peggy gets insecure because she thinks that those things are what make Hank love her and she feels if Bobby can do a better job than her then Hank will think she’s a useless wife.
Bill going from high school superstar stud to self-loathing loser because his wife left him. Boomhauer who seems to be the most successful ladies man ever, except when the episode comes where he teaches Bobby his ways it turns out he just hits on every woman he sees and spends most of his time getting rejected.
Also also one time Hank accidentally goes fishing with crack as bait and gets arrested for drug possession.
King of the Hill is fuckin awesome.
