thinking about ted's very obvious devastation when paul sides with bill over going to save alice in the remount.

thinking about how the change of where pete shows up affects that reaction. because pete being alive and not yet infected in beanies when paul is there changes things. it means, unlike in the original, pete could have been saved. paul could have gotten pete out of there. he didn't know how it was going to go and didn't know to, not really, and i stlil don't think he would have done it because early show paul genuinely does not care about anything except emma and i say this as someone who loves paul dearly but he still, factually, could have done it. he could have saved pete, too. but he didn't.

thinking about how if ted knows that, if he found out about that in the hours between reuniting with paul, and alice calling bill, it makes that argument hurt so much more. because he isn't just wanting paul to agree with him. he wants to know that the guy he considers to be his best friend wouldn't leave ted's loved one for dead while being perfectly willing to risk his life to save bill's. and then he finds out that's exactly the case, actually.

i'm not saying running away and leaving paul to die was the right thing to do by any means, it was selfish and cowardly and awful, i'm just saying that in reprise it feels like a much more understandable move, compared to the unmitigated outright betrayal of the original.
