It's crazy how specifically utena portrayed not just the outward trappings but the Feeling of being a teenage queer girl interacting with guys for the first time and the like. slightly nauseating knowledge that they have something you want, the yearning that comes from wanting both to be them and to have their approval, to possess their power and to have them validate you. and that gets twisted all around until sometimes you want Them too, as symbols of the other thing, the thing that's too hard to say, the thing you can only express by imitation and not in words. The urge to defend other girls is the urge to defend yourself is the urge to have power over them is the urge to have autonomy over yourself. Somewhere in there is something true and beautiful, like the way it feels to look into a pretty girl's eyes and see her seeing you. But it's all intertwined. Because you're 15.
