hey nerds
So, I know I keep going on and coming off of hiatus. I’m here one moment and gone the next. Basically what’s been happening is that my life was real wonky for a while. I was adjusting to a new job and to changes in my old job, picking up new roles at my university, and dealing with a schedule that was constantly in flux. As of this coming semester, however, I’m trying to keep my life more scheduled. So, hopefully, I’ll actually be coming back to rping. I’m so sorry to all the partners I’ve left hanging. You’re all wonderful, and I love writing with you, I’ve just been balancing a lot in real life that made it difficult to set aside time for Tumblr RP.
I have, however, been able to manage Skype RP. It’s shorter, easier for me to handle, and all that jazz. So if any of you are interested in that, please just send me a message. I’m somewhat selective with who I share my Skype with. Hope you all are doing well!

Get Thee Behind Me
Aruya had calmed down enough to force herself into a more cordial demeanor by the time the Inquisitor and his companions arrived. She clambered to the top of the small pile of boulders before they’d joined her, and spent the brief wait peering into the forest as she thought on the best route to lead them by. Ultimately she’d narrowed it down to two possibilities.
She heard the Inquisitor’s party before she saw them, and leapt off the rocks. She hit the ground hard, a puff of dust rising from the dirt, but straightened and leaned against the rocks. When the Inquisitor came into view, the hunter-turned-scout offered him a short nod. “There’s two ways we can go,” she said without preamble. “Northwestern route is slower, but safer. There’s plenty of defensible ruins we can camp in. Northeast will be much faster, but there’s more risk. Takes us through the giants and past the dragon. The decision is yours, Inquisitor.”
Serge spotted the woman and nodded gratefully as he approached her. Aruya was well-prepared, and he appreciated her competence. And her down-to-business attitude. He appreciated that directness, especially as someone who found mincing words difficult in his native tongue, never mind the language spoken in Ferelden.
He grunted in understanding, nodding. The hulking warrior thought for a moment, rubbing his chin, then nodded to himself. “Mm. Slow and steady. Northwest route, please.”
He heard Sera make a comment behind him, but he ignored her, his face showing no change in expression. He supposed this would be what having siblings was like.
Judging by the sharp glare she directed towards the elvhen woman, Aruya cared little for Sera’s commentary on anything at all. The fact that Sera’s answering expression could only be described as mocking suggested the scout would be better off ignoring the elf entirely.
Honestly, Aruya was faintly relieved he’d chosen the northwestern route. She’d come from the northeast herself, and the thought of attempting to sneak past giants, behemoths, and a dragon again was more than she wanted to contemplate.
“Alright, Inquisitor. The camps I’m to guide you to are at the north end of the forest. Keeping a steady pace, we’ll be there in a handful of days. Hauling as- Moving quickly, we’ll make it in three.” Cursing in front of the Inquisitor- and the mage woman with her nose stuck permanently in the air- seemed unprofessional at best, but Aruya still barely caught herself. “Is there anything you need from me before we set off?”

Midsummer Festival - Open Starter - Serge
Stella watched Serge depart with a smug expression, but didn’t bother to try and keep an eye on him once he’d disappeared through the crowds. Instead she took a cautious sip of his beer and grimaced at the taste, before pulling a small notebook from her pouch. Half-finished sketches and dress designs covered most of the pages, mostly inspired by outfits she’d noticed at the festival. Humming happily to herself, she set to finishing them while she waited for Serge to return.
Serge approached the scarred, severe looking woman, wishing he had thought to buy her a drink before approaching.
It wasn’t too late, he told himself.
No, fool, you’re already almost at her table!
Just walk past her, do a circuit back to the bar, and then try again!
No, no, no, she’s seen me now.
Damn.
The tall man found himself at her table. He offered her a smile that was pleasant, if not a bit nervous. “A fine evening, isn’t it?” he asked her.
Of course he would talk about the weather. Dolt.
Having found the perfect place to sit, an unoccupied table set in the shade of a tree and positioned so the ranger could easily keep her back to a wall, Aruya was less than inclined to move when she saw a stranger approaching. She stayed where she was, legs stretched out and resting on one of the spare chairs. Draug, sleeping off the better part of a roast chicken, stirred tiredly and blinked at the man who joined them at the table but couldn’t be bothered to growl.
Aruya’s eyes had begun tracking the man the moment she realized he was approaching her. She raised an eyebrow when he took a seat, and raised it a little further when he spoke. “Fine enough,” she agreed. Her demeanor was far from unfriendly. Much as she might have preferred to be alone, this was a festival. Conversation was to be expected. Still she didn’t return his smile. “Can I help you with something?”
Get Thee Behind Me
Aruya’s eyes snapped away from the Inquisitor, fixing on a point some few yards away where the man’s elvhen companion was cackling over the mess that had formerly been the neat stack of supplies Aruya and the other scouts had spent the morning gathering. The hunter’s nostrils flared almost imperceptibly, and her jaw tightened. Any other person, any recruit or hunter or scout, and she would have gladly sent the culprit off to scout the dragon’s den.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t very well do so with a member of the Inquisitor’s inner circle.
“Right,” she confirmed sharply. “If you have need of anything, gather it before we leave. There is a rock formation just to the west of here. Gather your companions. I will meet you there.” With that, the hunter withdrew her hand, turned, and marched away.
It was leave, or hit someone.
Serge watched the woman walk away with equal parts dismay and chagrin. He felt his face go red, but he hid the brief blush with a hand that rubbed across his face. Maker, if Corypheus didn’t kill him first, his companions were like to do it themselves. He heard footsteps approach, heavy, booted steps, and felt Blackwall drop a hand on his shoulder.
“That could have gone better,” Serge heard the other man murmur.
Serge grunted and shrugged his shoulders, dropping Blackwall’s hand. “Let’s get going. Before we destroy the Inquisition from the ground up.”
After the group gathered what supplies they needed, Serge led them towards the meeting place. They approached the rock, the Inquisitor searching for the scout.

HARVESTMERE, the 10th month of the Dragon Age calendar, is not particularly spooky! But, considering we’ve celebrated odd holidays in random months, there’s no reason not to get festive for our own spooky holiday season. Join me in throwing our latest DARP Event: Harvestmere at Skyhold!
WHEN: The entire month of October through November 2nd.
WHO: You! Anyone is welcome to be a part of this event, whether you’re in DARP or visiting us with a DA verse.
WHERE: Anywhere in Thedas; Skyhold is merely a gathering point for many of us, one that I certainly hope would join in the festivities for the season. But hey, if you want to carve some pumpkins down in the Deep Roads, you do that shit.
WHAT: Since Halloween is not an official holiday in Thedas, consider some of these suggestions to help get the creativity flowing:
ALL SOUL’S DAY, celebrated traditionally in August, is a Thedosian celebration of the dead. The Chantry uses this holiday to remember Andraste and her sacrifice through plays and bonfires representing her immolation. It is said that in northern areas of Thedas, many people dress as spirits and parade through the town after midnight.
SATINALIA, celebrated on the first of Firstfall (our Nov. 1), is a wild, often week-long celebration in which Thedosians don masks and feast and drink. Antiva is known to have the longest running Satinalia festivals, followed by a week of fasting, while more pious areas and families tend to emphasize the feast (over the celebration) and give gifts to one another.
Elvhen and Dalish characters may want to consider how their clan or people would celebrate months of harvest and the dead. Do they take time to have rituals for Falon’din and deceased loved ones? Do they celebrate Sylaise or Andruil for warm fires and successful hunts? Do they dress as Fen’harel and play tricks on one another?
Inquisitors may want to consider how Skyhold will celebrate the fall holidays. Are they particularly pious? Would they encourage their companions to wear masks? Could they spare time to decorate and feast?
Would necromancers have particular rituals to which they would adhere during this season? How do they negotiate their particular connection to the dead?
Dwarven characters may want to consider their character’s relationship to the Stone, their caste–would these allow for celebrations of the dead, of seasons, or harvests? Would they be similar or different to Chantry-held beliefs?
How would Fade-connected characters like Solas or Cole make sense of the season?
What mask would your character wear? Why would they choose that? Would they go all out into making a fabulous costume or would they show up in something simple?
Don’t forget all the silly things we enjoy that make the season what it is–apple picking and hot cider, pumpkin flavored everything, carving, baking, playing in the leaves, spiced wine, pecan pies, corn pits and mazes, costumes, celebrations. It’s up to you how to best celebrate the season!
RULES
As always, be respectful! Don’t godmod or force others into situations they may be uncomfortable writing in. Understand that horror themed threads may be triggering to certain people or they may be inappropriate to engage in with minors. Don’t make assumptions about others without asking their consent first and make sure to stay vigilant on your tags.
More than this, be respectful to the season! Not everyone celebrates Halloween as Americans or Westerners do (and some don’t celebrate it at all), and some people may have different celebratory practices, holidays, beliefs about the dead, rituals, and so on. This is a time for us to learn about one another’s cultures, not to appropriate or mock them.
Have fun. Be creative! Write some metas, get drunk, eat too much candy.

Festival- Open FR Starter
Daeghun gave a warm, though very small, smile. “Then let’s go purchase the items. After that, we can perhaps view some of the stalls.” He suggested. He was no one for exploring exotic foods or finery, but today was as good of a day as any.
He hesitated, before turning so that he was to Aruya’s right side, and held out his elbow for her. He knew is was a common custom of humans, where the woman would gently rest her hand on the man’s arm. He hoped it would be endearing to Aruya.
Awash in relief and feeling as if she could breathe properly for the first time in well over a month, the ranger nodded and waited for Daeghun to lead the way. The offer of his arm took her by surprise. It intensified that bittersweet ache in her heart, but she smiled nonetheless. It was touching, in a way. Regardless of how Daeghun intended the gesture- and surely it was nothing more than friendliness- it was kind. She took his arm, callused hand resting lightly on his forearm.
“I heard tell there was a booth with things for children on the far side of the market,” she commented. “I’ll not buy much, but I was hoping they might have second-hand goods I could afford.” Despite the way she’d hoarded money since she found out she was pregnant, Aruya was fairly certain she didn’t have nearly enough to get everything she needed.
You’re new here(Open starter)
“Tell you?” Raserei said stifling a laugh, “Why? You are about to meet them.”
Face of all shapes and colors looked at them as they entered the settlement. While most where human there was a good number of people who were…other, though Raserei still stood out, but it was clear he wasn’t afraid here, and those around him looked at him in awe.
A large bonfire raged in the middle of the camp, children danced while a young woman with nut brown hair sang and played a wooden lyre. Stares did find their way to Aruya, but all seemed to be of interest and not about her scars.
“Raserei!” A deep and booming voice called out.
A head of them and moving quickly to them was a massive man, who towered over Raserei. He had a thick black beard and a black mane for hair. But this giant of a man dark eyes twinkled with water.
The shouted at the barbarian as he quickly closed in. Raserei broke away from the group to meet this man half way and let the giant embrace him in a hug that lifted the demon spawn off the ground. with the speed and slight panic in both voices it was hard to make out when one word ended and another started and the other warriors looked on concerned in fact everyone in the camp looked concerned. Something that wasn’t noticed before.
But Raserei’s concerned face cracked and a look of the purest joy found itself on his face, such a rare thing, it almost didn’t seem real. The demon spawn laughed and shook the larger man and said something with sheer joy cracking his normally deep voice. The larger man stood and ran back off as Raserei turned to look at one of the warriors that had came with him. He barked something at the man before he nodded and high tailed it in the same direction as the other man who was talking to Raserei went.
Raserei walked back to Aruya still beaming, “It would seem you will need to wait on my sister’s cooking. She is delivering a kind, baby.”
The barbarian gestured Aruya to continue following him, “That was Òriás, he is a…” Raserei thought for a moment, “Half giant, but his ehefrau, wife is only human.”
As they walked he waved at people they passed, “We have been keeping a watchful eye on her. And Òriás has been a unordnung, a wreck. Giant babies not easy to carry, ja?”
They approached a large yurt that looked like it was joined by two others. Raserei held the opening flap for Aruya to walk in first.
As soon as the sun broke into the entry of the home, sounds of tiny feet came hurling towards them and a chorus of voices saying things excitedly. The only thing Aruya could make out was ‘Raserei’.
Aruya found herself in front of five kids of varying ages. They looked a bit disappointed that she wasn’t Raserei.
Aruya’s head was on a swivel as she and Raserei reached the lively camp, but there was nothing watchful or wary about the way she took in their surroundings. Rather, she seemed almost in awe and strangely eager. This was a new plane, a new world, and the part of her that craved excitement and the thrill of the new and unknown demanded that she set her sights on all there was to see. For once, she was even unbothered by the stares her scars earned her. There were no whispers or raised eyebrows, no faint sneers of disgust or simpering expressions of sympathy.
When Raserei was approached by the giant man, Aruya paused to watch their exchange silently. She tried to pick out recognizable words in their quick back-and-forth, but failed. Their speech was in the guttural, consonant-heavy tongue she’d come to associate with Raserei. Somewhat belatedly, she realized it would be wise to ask her friend to teach her some of his language. She had no way of knowing how many people in this world actually spoke in a language she could understand.
The ripple of tension that passed through the encampment was far from lost on Aruya. Nor was the way that tension was released when Raserei laughed joyfully. The tiefling seemed so different in this world. Aruya could still feel the tension about him, the sense of encroaching darkness and subtle fear, but it was somewhat lessened. He seemed more comfortable in his own skin, and happy here among his people. His family.
“I’m sure they’re not,” she replied dryly when Raserei explained the brief exchange to her. A small, amused smile played on her lips. Raserei was very different here, but she was glad for him. Her friend seemed happier. “Though if you think carrying any child is easy, I’m sure any dozen women here would argue with you on that point.”
When he held the flap of the yurt open, Aruya paused for a moment, then murmured her thanks and ducked inside. The interior was warmer than she’d been expecting, but it took her eyesight a moment to adjust to the dim light. After the brilliant whiteness of the landscape, the inside of the yurt left her nearly blind. She heard voices, children by the sound of it, calling Raserei’s name in varying joyous tones. When she could at last see the speakers, she had to stop herself from chuckling. Their expressions of disappointment were just shy of pouts.
Stepping aside so as to not block the entrance, she turned her head to call over one shoulder. “I think I’m not the one these little ones have been waiting for, Raserei.”
Midsummer Festival - Closed Starter with scarred-wanderer
Aruya followed silently, eyes sliding across the shadowed streets and surroundings without ever landing fully on Cinekina. When they reached the room she seemed to ignore Cin’s offer of a seat, and stood as if she wasn’t sure what to do with herself. Finally the ranger ended up leaning against the wall, arms crossed. The gesture looked less defiant, and more like she was trying to hold herself together.
After a moment, she forced her eyes to Cin. “What did you want to speak about?” Aruya asked hollowly.
Her demeanor and tone, the agonizingly long time it took for Aruya to look at her, they hurt Cin. Convinced her she had shamed or insulted Aruya with her earlier flirtations. She had pushed too far. Cin needed to push farther. If Aruya ran away she wouldn’t chase after her. Not this time. Not like when she had fled Neverwinter. Cinekina wrung her hands, trying to go for a reassuring smile, though the motion was more for herself than anything. She imagined it looked more like a pained grimace. That thought itself stopped her and she plopped down onto the edge of the bed. She sighed and stared at her hands before she looked up from them at Aruya. “We’ve been friends for a while, right, Ari?” she smiled softly, sadly, steeling herself for whatever was to happen. “Though it doesn’t feel that way.”
There it was. That word. Friends.
Why couldn’t you have been satisfied with that, Aruya chided herself. Why did you have to roll over like a dog promised a treat and fall in love with the first person to forgive you?
Because she was weak, that was why.
Holding herself a little more tightly, and not quite meeting Cin’s eyes. she nodded. “Aye. Though... I don’t know what you mean by the second part. You are my friend, Cinekina.” And so much more than that.
"Who's your favorite dragon? Go on! Say it! Wait, I know it! It's me!"
Aruya glanced at Cinekina out of the corner of her eye, but said nothing. The dragon refused to let her be, and when it had become clear that Cinekina would not listen to reason or rage, the ranger had fallen into silence. It had been almost a day and a half since she’d said a word to her unwelcome traveling companion.
Cin glanced hopefully up at her friend as she spoke, but found herself disappointed as there seemed to be no change in Aruya. The dragon woman glanced back to at her hands before stretching them up, up high, hands clasped together and pulling. “We will reach a small settlement tomorrow afternoon. We can restock then.”
The dragon watched the ranger and an idea came to her. “Why don’t we go for a hunt in the mean time? Get our hands on some rabbit! Hells, I would even go for a dozen or so squirrels!” She turned to Draug. “Right, boy? How would you feel about some fresh meat? None of that salted, dried jerky we’ve been horking down?” She looked back to Aruya, grin wide, body language speaking loudly of hopeful energy. Her golden eyes were bright and wide. “What do you say, Ari? Like hunting bandits, only it’s socially acceptable to eat the fruits of this hunt!”
The ranger’s green eyes flicked towards Cin and lingered on the dragon for a moment, then returned to the fire. Why couldn’t the damn woman leave her alone? Aruya was tired, tired of whatever this charade was. Perhaps it was supposed to wear her down, or somehow heal her, but what Cinekina did not seem to realize was that Aruya was beyond healing. Beyond helping.
“No,” she said at last, eyes fixed on the fire as she reached for her weapons. “I’ll go hunting. Or you’ll go. One of us stays to watch the camp.” No matter which option her unwelcome companion chose, perhaps Aruya could finally be alone. Even if only for a short while, she wanted to be alone. Needed it.
Though her hand no longer rested on her knife, Aruya’s expression did not soften. “And just what kind of help are you offering?” she asked suspiciously. Perhaps Aruya was looking a gift horse in the mouth, but her years in the wilds had taught her that more often than not gift horses had teeth sharp enough to pierce skin and break bone.
He breathed a small sigh of relief. She seemed to be giving Him a chance. “W-well I will give you tips on how to care for the baby as well as help you through the pregnancy itself. I’ll also be a live in nanny for as long as you wish. You can also have me live in the church and care for your child when necessary.” He looked at her pleadingly.
scarred-wanderer
The ranger was thoroughly unimpressed by the sales pitch. “Do I look to be in need of a nanny?” she asked, her fierce glare accentuating the old scars on her cheek and jaw. The newer ones, stretching from the corners of her mouth up to her cheekbones, needed no accentuation. “I can care for my child alone. Why were you sent?”
