End of the year update aka why you haven't seen a whole lot from me. But maybe that will change soon.

Gonna be real folks. 2024 was not kind to me. A condition I had surgery for in August of 2023 has had complications and it's been just a journey of misdiagnosis and torment, before finally honing in on the actual damn problem and getting any progress just in the last couple months.

I couldn't sit for long or walk or do much of anything. It's taken its toll and naturally art and writing have taken a serious back seat.

It also forced me to largely be a bystander in the events playing out around me. Watching a| rip through the art community I used to love. And just everything else.

But as this year from hell comes to a close I can at least say Ive had a lot of time to reflect on what I really want. Or at least what I can do with the state of things.

I don't really know how things will go. I know what I would like to do. Move to a better climate for my health. Get well. Paint. Maybe even start writing books again. Will see.

I am beyond grateful for my partner. Through all of this he has been loving and supportive in ways no one else I've ever known would be.

I am recovering. In fact I found a few things wrong with me I didn't realize we're not working right in that journey. In the end Im going to come out of this better then I went in. At least I hope so. My art and writing I think are going to be different then what I did before.

Time will tell.

So the same cycle has happened twice to me now but this time its that much more frustrating.

A new social media comes out promising to even the playing field and make things fair. I join early on hoping i will finally get a break. I get maybe a dozen followers before the app inevitably dries up and everyone forgets about it.

Well Cara is here and while it seems to have a lot more steam im running into the same old brick wall.

And let me tell you folks there is little more disheartening then watching people who you consider on your same skill level rocket past you in popularity. And it's great I'm happy for them but like it constantly leaves me questioning what the hell am I doing wrong? One artist in particular I know has 10 times the followers and they post, create and interact as much as I do.

Like Ive had this lesson driven home enough times to know its me. To know it's some quality I lack. I will be damned if I can figure out what that quality is.

Like im sorry I've spent the last year sick. Im sorry im terrible at socializing. I'm sorry im autistic and i can't exist in a nt world.

I know, I should just do the art for my own joy. But as ive said many times what is a dancer with no audience? I don't need or want fame. I just want to connect with others. I want to know I made something others appreciate. Ive long given up on getting anything beyond that and yet even that seems impossible. Its alienating. Its isolating. And the inevitable lack of interaction on this post is only going to drive it home.

I think the more industries that become reliant on generative content, the more we need to be talking about universal basic income. Like, so many of my friends lost their jobs due to layoffs and their industries are moving towards automation so there aren't jobs to fill the void. Everyone's broke, everything's expensive, people have to eat.

Funny thing, that particular story has been removed from the evangelical canon. It remains in the versions of the Bible that they call the apocrypha texts. Most current churches consider it forbidden/demonic texts, despite it being canon at least 200 years ago. Just interesting info if anyone was interested.

People underestimate how much it fucks you up to be subtly excluded as a kid. I would try to talk to my classmates and be met with disinterest or annoyance. The one friend I had, who I clung to and nodded along to his every word, had other friends he liked just as much or more. And his other friends didn’t care for me at all.

I look back at pictures from the time and see how separated I was from them. I remember knowing I was different. I remember posing questions about the world to the girls playing next to me and realizing that they had never asked the same ones to themselves. That the ways we thought couldn’t be more different.

I kept myself amused with my own fanatical stories and musings in my head. I would wander the playground on a circular path, imagining a friend and being sorely disappointed when it didn’t feel as real as I’d hoped.

There was a bubble separating me from everyone else, thin, and nearly invisible, but with a pearly sheen you could catch under the right conditions. I knew it was there, they knew it was there, and it changed me

This kind of thing is why, to this day, I never allow myself to consider anyone a friend until they say it first. It's a subconscious thing mostly, but if I think of someone as a friend before they've said it, I do find myself pushing the thoughts away, because if I was wrong, I would get hurt again.

It's quite a simple statement for most people, but when I hear someone who I'm close to say that I'm their friend for the first time, I feel a huge rush of relief, like there's this pent up anxiety that I'm taking it too far when I think we might possibly be friends.

Odd is what’s known as a channeller in Pokémon D&D rules, it’s a class where the person has an aura that’s super in tune with Pokémon. Think N from black/white.

Technically I don’t think it’s ‘getting kidnapped by Pokémon every five minutes’ but my friend and I had fun with it and it’s easy to catch a ridiculous amount of legendaries in sword/shield with the crown tundra dlc so here’s my take on that xD
