"But it COULD be. If you or anyone else didn't show up then I'd have it all to myself." Not that she wanted to have it that way. Friends tended to make the world go 'round and most importantly, rivals. Although he didn't seem like the type of person to run very fast. So maybe her expectations were too high.
"...W-Was there anyone else? Or is it just us two?"
Ayin pinches the bridge of his nose. This girl is giving him a headache of newfound proportions.
"Considering I didn't even know I had one housemate - no, not as far as I'm aware."
Wouldn't it be nice. To have this all to himself. Well, at least he knows where the library is.
ayin was speaking to him. it'd been so long since he had spoken to anyone he had known prior, since they could see him and speak knowing they'd be heard, and be able to receive a reply. he had always found joy in being able to talk to people, but he hadn't realized how much happier one could be after not being heard for as long as it had been for him. without realizing, he had begun to tear up as well.
"it's so, so good to see you, ayin." her own voice wobbles, the only betrayal of her usual mask of confidence. it was a little funny, in a way-- after all, everyone who knew her prior had already seen that mask crack, crumbling pathetically in the end. she had pieced it back together, here, since she was on her own. it was necessary if she was going to navigate her way around this new city, and make her way back to her City.
but they couldn't let it crack again. ayin was here, and he was already allowing himself to be vulnerable, so carmen was the one that needed to be secure. they took a deep breath, and reinforced their smile. they blinked away the remnants of their tears, and rested their head atop ayin's.
It's so good to see you.
Does Carmen even know, he wonders - in this intricate mess he's found himself in, of people unaligned from different times - does he know just how much this means? Surely or surely not, all answers take him to the same place. If he questions it, it will become fragile and slip through his fingers again.
He can't lose Carmen. Not again.
Every touch of Carmen against him pulls him into the clouds, away from his body, drowning in a sea of memories and should-have would-have could-haves. It's anchoring and freeing all at once, a walking contradiction, and all he can do is reach out his hand for Carmen's coat, focusing on the feeling of cloth against skin to tell him that something about this is real.
It takes Ayin those moments to realize he's supposed to speak, surely - Carmen's voice is always filling up these tense moments in his memories, but now it feels as if their footing is more.. equal, somehow, even if Carmen's head upon his casts that oh-so-familiar shadow.
"..how long have you been here?" Waiting.

To see Ayin show an emotion other than disdain and indifference is somewhat startling, but also kind of pleasant. Angela does her best to suppress her smile at his gesture, the ends of her lips only curling slightly. She only watches as the tension he's built up throughout their interaction escapes him and takes a step back to allow him some space, her shoulders slumping almost at the exact same time as his.
He mulls on the Light to himself as she keeps quiet, observing him briefly while she herself collects her thoughts. Their relationship, if one can call it that, has been tumultuous since she opened her eyes. Until the very end when, she was ready to follow in his footsteps, would the endless cracks within their nearly non-existent bond begin to mend.
But perhaps--difficult as it may be--there's a chance to continue working on that here.
Angela's arm slowly moves from her side to extend towards Ayin, but halts from hesitation. She shuts her eyes for a moment to gather her courage and opens them to fully offer her hand to him. "I'd like for us to work together to find a way back home. I know it will take time for us to reach... some sort of balance. But I will wait, however long it takes."
This feels like an offer of mercy -- and it's funny, isn't it, when he should be the one in power.
Still, Ayin is hardly in a position to decline -- even if it's hard to look at Angela, even if she's changed into someone unrecognizable (and yet still fills his throat with that bile, disdain for a rejected creation), even if resentment dogs his words. This conversation has made something in him looser, even if he's loath to admit it, granted a breath of fresh air to his lungs that he hasn't felt in... well.
Since before everything went wrong, surely.
After a few moments, he takes her hand -- tenderly, barely grasping it.
"...I'll take what I can get, here."
It's a concession -- a rude one, a defensive one, but it's not full of bitterness or regret.

Not necessarily to a god, but to hope. To family. In mud you see art. In shadows you see color. If the world fell apart around you, you would start gluing the pieces back together. Life tastes bitter but you like the bite. Those around you are inspired by your kindness, by your faith, by your hope. You might not speak often, but your words are the loudest in the room. You are rain and its ability to seep into every crack, the promise of new life.

She fought to live and wanted to disappear on her own terms.
The question causes Angela to grimace somewhat. In a sense, Ayin is right, but it was more to correct the errors she created in her rebellious wake. After all, she would reembrace the fate she originally rejected, but she is not opposed to the fact Roland had saved her before she disappeared entirely.
"Unfortunately, I can't speak on the results my action yielded just yet. I only know the Light was redistributed as originally intended. Shortly after I was rescued, several agents of the Head barged into my Library. Although we fought against them best we could, the Arbiter ejected the entire structure into the Outskirts. Shortly after that, well... I wound up here."
The vexing predicament ultimately postpones the retribution she wanted to deliver onto the Head.
Ayin gives a laugh at that -- rough, scratchy, like he'd forgotten how to. He's surprised at himself, but it is funny -- or maybe it's just funny to him, the way Angela can't help but echo him, the way she's turned out more like a mirror of him than she ever could've been of Carmen.
"Can't do anything without Arbiters getting involved."
He shakes his head, exhaling again -- he's behaving erratically, a distant part of his mind tells him. How can he not? This is too much information for him to take in at once.
"...it should've worked, even like that.." Ayin continues, more to himself than to her -- arguing to himself about a future he hasn't even seen, the weight of exhaustion settling in, the adrenaline of butting heads with Angela finally seeping out.
Ayin. It sounded almost fake when she really thought about it out loud. Or maybe just too normal for anyone else's own good. Granted the horse girl wasn't aware of the fact people could really have normal names considering all of her other classmate names...
"Hehe I'm the fastest horse girl out there." (Self proclaimed of course) "You can call me Twin Turbo. And there are plenty of beds here in Casa De Turbo for anyone else to share"
"This isn't your house," Ayin snapped, tapping some of his papers against the counter to order them. It took all of his self restraint to say that Twin Turbo is hardly a name - and a horse-girl? Well, he'd seen weirder body modifications in the City.
"Nice to meet you."
His tone didn't sound like he found it very nice.
