No new Schlockmasters this week because we're working the King of Iron Movie Tournament, but I can announce the matchups we're going to be covering in the first episode; Harold and Maude vs Super Mario Bros and Uncut Gems vs Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky
Sorry to make this kind of post again I know it's barely the start of the month, but I've had some unexpected difficulties that ate up at my paycheck and looking at the rest of the month, I'm in the stiuation of having to choose between groceries and rent unless I can scrounge up around $300 USD to complete my rent. Here it is, the Schlockmasters King of Iron Movie Tournament Bracket and grading system. The way the tournament is going to work is that for each match up between two movies each one is going to be rated on a scale between 1 and 3 for three criteria:
Kinoaesthetics - a rating based on the appreciation of the technical and affective qualities of the audio visual elements of the film, which can include shot composition, lighting, costuming, scoring, editing, or performance
Conceptual Charm - rated based on enjoyment and appreciation of the ideas present by the film, which can include plot incidence, themes, and characterization
Schlockmasteriness - rated based on how much the film adheres to the Schlockmasters guiding principle of being compelling messy, trashy, and existing on the fringes of mainstream success and acclaim
The movie that receives the highest overall score will be the victor and will have the loser's score added to its own when it moves on. For subsequent rounds movies will be reevaluated and the process will repeat until the final match up.
The judges also will have the right to veto the result of a match if both agree the lower scoring movie should actually win, and each judge will have the ability to unilaterally veto the result of one match over the course of the tournament.
We have 1 more regular episode before the Tournament starts proper so keep an eye on the Schlockmasters podcast feed and socials for when the tournament starts proper. First episode of the tournament is gonna cover Super Mario Bros vs Harold and Maude and Riki Oh vs Uncut Gems.
