This is not an anniversary, or a birthday, or even a particularly special day, this is just an appreciation post for my wonderful fiancée, @thimblewad. I was able to sneak an $18.50 steak past @thimblewad during our last grocery shop (hers was $6.10) & OMG WAS IT EVER WORTH IT! As someone who identifies as a music nerd, and has a love for behind the scenes/borderline useless facts. @alan_crossx 's "Ongoing History Of New Music" radio show (now also available in podcast form) has scratched that nerdy itch for me ever since I can remember listening to the radio! So when I saw that he was doing a speaking gig in Calgary last night, for $25 and not even a 5 minute drive from my house, there was no way I wasn't going! I was walking into the venue, And Alan is sitting on the front steps reading something on his phone! I didn't want to interrupt but it felt too serendipitous to not take advantage of the moment to say hi & explain how much I love his radio show! As it turns out, ticket sales weren't great for this event, so we downsized into the cafe in the basement. It gave the event an ntimate feel, & felt more like a conversation/discussion rather than a speech/lecture. The event went on for 2 1/2 hours! He opened the floor up for questions from us, we talked about everything from Spotify's influence on the industry, how the pay structure between Spotify, the labels and the artists works, why festivals don't survive in Canada, to more personal stories like his most disappointing interview, some of his favorites, then he just started pointing out band shirts in the crowd and would ask if we wanted to hear a cool story about them. My favorite being that he was responsible for The Killers album 'Sam's Town' to be delayed by several months due to his opinion on the compression being used for recording the drums! But enough rambling, last night I got to meet and chat my music geekery idol, and I couldn't be happier!! To say that @thimblewad & I are in love with the results of the boudoir/couples photoshoot we did last month is a complete understatement! This is definitely a highlight for us in a relatively shitty 2019 thus far! There is not much that tops the sheer ecstasy of the team that you cheer for winning the league championship! Since my silver Civic was considered a total loss by my insurance company, I had to buy a new (to me) car to replace it with the payout money. So I got another 07 Civic! 😂 Instead of a silver sedan, I now have a black coupe! Currently working on a name for it. Some of the finalists are: Black Betty, Black Widow, Black Beauty, & Black Panther. A friend of @thimblewad & I's is @teaneill, earlier today, she offered that the 1st 10 people who sent her a selfie, she would sketch a quick portrait of them. Funny enough, both Hannah & I had submitted photos of ourselves without the other one knowing that we had. So we ended up getting an unintentional couples portrait! It turned out great! So Hannah & I went to Honda West to test drive a Fit. (We liked it, but I didn't have any spare leg room while riding shotgun, so that was a no go.) We then discovered that the pearl white, manual, Civic sport hatchback she has had her eye on for quite some time IS THE ONLY ONE IN WESTERN CANADA! There was someone from Etobicoke, Ontario considering having it shipped out east, Jim, our salesman told us that it was very likely that her specific wants wouldn't be available when her lease ended at the start of May....SO WE BOUGHT IT! 😁 P.S. Because Jim referred to this car as a unicorn, and as per the car naming rules dictating it's name must start with a C (because it's a Civic).
