Obsessed with the character of Kudo Shinchi. Imagine this smug little rich kid, ooh, he thinks he's the smartest person in the room at any given moment, he solves crime as a hobby because his parents don't give him enough attention at home and also because he really likes Sherlock Holmes. He's extremely autistic. He is vaguely aware he should have hobbies outside of murder (because Sherlock Holmes had hobbies outside of murder) so he's also a varsity player. He makes every conversation about his interests and is genuinely very confused when people find this upsetting (because one of his special interests is murder). He's a sarcastic little greasestain. He's extremely rude and abrasive. He firmly believes that all human life is worth saving. He's a niche micro celebrity. He carries himself like nothing can even touch him. He's walking around just asking to get his ass kicked. And he does. He gets his head smashed in with a lead pipe in the pilot episode of the show in which he is the main character.

Lupin is in some ways more free or feels more free on average than Kaito since Kaito ,if not actually being forced to do something feels as if he is forced, quite often or at least more often than Arsène “I do what I want and damn the consequences.” Lupin. (Not actually a quote.)

Besides, I feel that Kaito is more consistent with his personality than Lupin who’s all over the place not even just from story to story but quite often within within the same story there’s a lot of overlap between how he acts as Kaito and how he acts as Kid.

YEAH, a bit---so, I don't know That much about Lupin, but I do get the sense that he has very few consistent interpersonal connections. There's nothing tying him down to one identity. Kaito is an actor, constantly, but he's acting within his own pre-existing life and self. He's a teenager surrounded by people that have known him for years, sometimes even his entire life. He can't exactly damn the consequences, because damning the consequences IS breaking the mask. He'd lose everyone, he can't afford it. That's the same reason he's more consistent across the board than Lupin. Plus, for that overlap, Kaito himself just has a trickster-prankster personality by default, something that Kaitou Kid (a pre-existing character with a personality to mimic) already had. It's probably important to note that Kaito didn't invent Kaitou Kid, he's taking the stage as an understudy. He's Kaito acting as Toichi acting as Kaitou Kid.

I’ve been thinking about Kaito ,to differentiate himself a bit from Kid ,(but in a way that wouldn’t be more suspicious)would work with more colorful breeds of doves in his routines. I think more colorful birds could suit him very well. He has three naming conventions for his doves ones he uses for his traditional magic shows are named after magicians (I like that common fandom take.) the ones he uses for his moonlight (heh) job after gentlemen and lady thieves and ones that for one reason or another aren’t suitable for either work or are retired for any reason by the names of people he personally knows.

Awwwww. I’m not sure he’d use them for performances because Kaito strikes me as kind of a stickler to the old-fashioned vibes (at least visually) thanks to Toichi, but he deserves as many dove friends as he likes (and plenty of the more colorful ones will make better spies, cough cough). The naming conventions are really sweet!!

Also love how it looks like Chikage has taken Aoko under her(black feathered) wing. So maybe Aoko picked up on some Kuroba family skills from her as well more likely from her actually since she spent more time with her than Toichi.

Yeah, also this !! Aoko gets skills by proxy. Not to mention if you’re friends with Kaito, you have to learn how to SURVIVE being friends with him LOL

Not the Kuroba sitcom anon but , I know we only get one flash back with Toichi and Aoko but in that he seemed to hold affection for her and wanted his son to treat her right. You think he also stealth trained her a bit perhaps not even intentionally she has been able to sneak up on an internationally infamous phantom thief. And we know she can be graceful and athletic.(She’s really good at ice skating.)

I think Aoko got stealth training just from. Like. Existing in the Kuroba house. That place is gonna be trapped and prankified to heck and back, it trained her whether she wanted to or not ;D

A fun headcanon is that at least two of the big jewels Kid targeted actually had powers and was directly aiding his rivals. Funnily enough his own birthstones Alexandrite - helping Makoto see through him with the emerald meaning (One of its attributes it helping to see if your lover is “true” different meaning but it works nicely ,doesn’t it?) and protecting him from further physical damage with the ruby meaning. And the blue moonstone helping Conan better understand the emotional reality behind it and I believe why he was imaging he was having a conversation with Kid without Kid actually talking to him and it’s why it only happened that one time.

the concept that kaito has been stealing magic gemstones this whole time, they’ve just been the Wrong magic gemstones, is hilarious. iconic. “enchanted ruby of protection? pssh who needs it, I gotta keep getting sniped for the mystery immortality rock”
